I just got through my money from the UK, because I will fly to London on Tuesday. I found an old 5, but didn't know the one pound coin is also new. Thanks for the video! I know will definetely change them at the Bank of England. (Probably wouldn't have done that for just 5 pounds.)

I've been to the Bank of England today. They do change the 5 GBP-note, but they do not change coins! There is no way to change the 1 GBP coin into new ones without a bankaccount in the UK. I am now left with about 20 pounds I cannot use. It is a charity to the UK. ;)

Thanks for the update Syrus. Canada has had polymer (plastic) notes for some time now and consist of the $20, $10 and $5. We also have a $1 coin which has a Canadian Loon on it and this got nicknamed “The Looney”. We also have a $2 coin which got nicknamed “The Twoonie”. Oh and with virtually NO value anymore, we no longer have pennies. For cash, prices (after tax) are rounded up or down to the nearest $0.05 or in the case of debit cards or credit cards, well, who cares.

We do the Swedish rounding in Australia too, with regard to cash prices. I moved here from the UK 12 yrs ago and we had ‘plastic money’ to get used to. Not sure when it came into circulation in Australia though.

In Canada, we've had the plastic bills for some time. I suggest not leaving them in pockets of pants that are about to go into the wash, on the car's dashboard on sunny days, or anywhere that gets hot.(yes people experimented to see what could be done to the new plastic stuff) The plastic money does warp and even melt when exposed to heat. Well I guess the few pound coins I still have from my 2012 visit to England are now just mementos from the trip and won't be usable whenever I get to travel back there. At least one of the coins has the Newcastle Millennium Bridge on it. Nice souvenir of visiting my cousins while in Newcastle. :)

I find the new plastic notes quite slippery to handle in bunches. At least they're tough and robust. The goatee beard suits you well - CJ from G.T.A San Andreas comes to mind ;)
