If you had a film layer that was removable on top after the cut you could just spray paint the cutout. Maybe the adhesive would interfere with the cut though.

"We are such a filthy species" LOL I've had good luck using acrylic paint in vcarved melamine. I use a foam brush to goober it in, then I use a shop towel, wrapped around a chunk of 2x4 with some denatured alcohol sprayed on it (sparingly) to clean up the over-goober. Leaves a nice clean finish. YMMV.

When I was in high school (I'm retired now) I was walking thru a K-Mart when suddenly a painted sign, 4x8' sheet of 1/2" plywood, sliced thru the air about 2' in front of me, and smashed into a counter to my left, one of the two chains it was hanging from the ceiling gave way, a split-second later I'd had a smashed up rib cage. I'm glad to see you add a couple reinforcement screws to your heavy sign, but those things give me the willies to this day.

Jay your a breath of fresh air when you upload man. KZbin woodworking is getting wild these days. It’s all tik tok trends and “top 5 for under $x”. And people literally trying to spread their Temu affiliate links. And these people do this and literally never build anything. I miss when KZbin woodworking was just you, TWW, stumpy nubs and a few others that actually respect and honor the craft and are not just chasing clicks to survive because you actually have talent and skill to rely on. Don’t get me wrong some solid ones have came along since you guys started like bourbon moth and Jonathan Katz-Moses and a new guy timber biscuits and MWA woodworks but the Jay Bater miter station will always be the OG that stormed the internet and had everyone copying. I know it’s a long rant but thanks for still coming through for us.

Gee, that riser block would look awful nice on the G0555 i scored for $150 last week. I'd buy one myself if I weren't already in the proverbial doghouse for surprising my wife with such a great steal by brandishing it proudly in the living room of our 2bdrm apartment. And although I am sleeping on the couch for now "since I love it so much", I can incontrovertibly say I would sleep that much better knowing I was doing so next to 12 beautiful inches of resaw capacity.

Jay - not sure how well “taping” the surface before cutting- not sure what tape you would use - and then dying would work. Or, is there any way to “seal” the melamine first so it won’t absorb the dye. Sign looks great

If you ever get the chance, if you're called to do a/an (relatively speaking) inexpensive sign, I'd like to see how your CNC handles HDO. I've got some I've used for various projects, but I'd like to see if a CNC can handle all the fiber and resin in that type of plywood. Cool sign!

Interesting that everyone that uses melamine for work table tops says that glue won't stick to it. So, apparently that isn''t quite true?
@pcs5852
@pcs5852 Жыл бұрын
Apparently, it depends on the glue. I've been using melamine for bench tops for years and regular yellow wood glue doesn't adhere well to it. It does "stick" (I'm referring to excess glue from glue ups) but is easily removed with a paint scraper. There is a "special" glue designed to glue melamine to melamine but I've never used it.
