What I don't understand. For all the things Lupe been fighting for in his music, against "the industry" all the not dumbing down content, why is he so hard on KDot? Drake is exactly the thing Lupe fought against for years. As clever as the bars are, they are surface level typical rap brag shit, or melodrama with a girl. Kendrick does poetry, allegories. Speaks on similar topics to Lupe. The feeling like a slave against these labels, talking about dumb shit. Some of his hits has been clever anti shit. Same thing Lupe has done. Now Lupe hands down is the best lyricist, but in terms of content, message and Everything, Kendrick is closer to Lupe than Drake is. So I don't get why he'd be so dismissive of Kdot, to say he didn't even listen to like that verse but listened to push ups.

Although punchline rapping can be entertaining, it’s very elementary. Meanwhile, metaphorical rapping is more advanced, which is why it stands the test of time. Kendrick showed us in this beef he could do punchlines. “Fuck the big 3, it’s just big me”, “Don’t tell no lies about me, I won’t tell no truths about you”, “I hope you my true friends, if not I’m YNW Melly”, “You trying to strike a chord, and it’s A minoooooooooooor”, etc. Kendrick also showed us in this beef, when done well, metaphorical rapping beats punchline rapping all day. I think Kendrick chooses to forego punchline rapping because he feels it’s too basic. His metaphors is also what lifted his lyrics beyond rapping and into the realm of literature, earning him a Pulitzer. I’m pretty sure Lupe knows all of this. I also believe Lupe is baiting Kendrick because he knows Kendrick is a beast and would give Lupe a much bigger challenge than Drake or most other rappers. In my opinion, the Big 3 is Lupe, Kendrick, and J.Cole. For my money Drake isn’t even top 10.

Yep, he's definitely baiting him into dissing him. He's sent shots before that went unanswered (SLR 2 especially notable), has been saying and tweeting lately that he's reminding everyone that he can beat everyone. The man is hungry for some beef and he's also way too smart to actually think that Drake is a better rapper than Kendrick (with all due respect to his diss tracks that actually slap).

In the song "set trippin" Kendrick told us why he doesn't rely on punchlines. Ironically it was a throwaway song full of punchlines lol. I fux with it tho. As for his comments, I refuse to believe he heard The Heart part 2 and 3, Nostalgia, Rigormortis or Good kid and thought to himself, this AIGHT but Drake is a better rapper. I just refuse to believe the man that blessed us with The Cool and songs like Mural really believes that.

I agree, I honestly think Lupe is just Gillis. Because Kendrick has better commercial success. Then hills wow steel, being conscious and lyrical. And so I think he's jealous of Kendrick and that since and also I think that Lupe thanks. He's a better VS than Kendrick. So he wants to bait Kendrick into battling him so that he can show the world that he's a better lyricist than him. Which means nothing because yes, lyrics are a huge part of hip-hop. But when you're lyrics, get lost in translation because you have to take the time to sit down and decipher all of the complex metaphors and allegories. Then your audience feels like it's a waste of time. Kendrick merges both worlds better while steel, maintaining the ear of the chore audio's. And while keeping it musically digestible

I love Kendrick. But if you read his lyrics, they aren't that special to me. His talent is in his theatrics , delivery, creativity, content choice, and full conceptual albums. Drake's subject matter isn't as deep, but his actual lyrics I find to be a little bit more complex in terms of double meanings and subliminally. Also, both Kendrick and drake have been throwing sub shots for decades. Kendrick just finally called him out directly. And I think Lupe is saying that Drake is more dangerous because Drakes style of writing is more aligned with diss tracks (back to back witty bars). Personally I enjoy Kendrick's music more, but objectively I recognize battle rapping isn't his as conducive to his rap style compared to Drake. That said, Kendrick is definitely on the clock in my opinion, simple because he send a very direct shot knowing a response would follow soon after. He should have been prepared. And part of the talent of rap is how fast you can think on your feet and delivery quality lines.

But the key difference is that Drake is living his scheduled life and gets a surprise bop in the back of his head with a number one single diss track. And I don't care what Drake says about is taking an hour or two, his verse reflects the weeks he had to respond. So Kendrick can definitely take as much time as he wants, but he's on the clock just like Drake was but with high expectations since he knew it was coming. And his verse should reflect how much time he's taking just like Drake's did.

People forget Drake WAS the boogeyman until his most recent beef with Pusha T. He’s been in about 6-8 beefs and only lost one. I can’t name anyone else on this level that’s done that. Push bodied him, but not due to lyricism, his Ace of Spade was Drake getting a stripper pregnant. In a way, Drake shot himself in the foot and Push did what he had to do with it. Kendrick’s been in none. Cole at least punched Diddy 😂 Who’s albums would I wanna listen to Kdot all the way! But is this gonna be easy for Kendrick?.. hell no. Meek Mill and Common are known to be way more lyrical than Drake and he somehow came out on top. Being lyrical isn’t a given W. You’ve gotta be funny, witty, and have some dirt to use. Kendrick just doesn’t have Drake’s sense of humor as he’s a much more serious guy. Simultaneously Drake is disarming him by saying all his own dirt himself. It’s a 50/50 toss up. Kendrick is a perfectionist, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he swung and missed simply because this isn’t his typical creative process. Will people see Drake as a better rapper than Kdot if he loses? Nope. Opinions of both artists will remain the same regardless of the outcome. Win-win for both
