I refuse to believe that he didn't understand the context of what Kendrick was saying. I think he's clearly picking sides and trying to make it a narrative it isn't for Drake sympathy. Otherwise he's not as bright as I've always given him credit for.

@@geekylove3603 he probably should have just kept his mouth shut. That would've been better than pandering to some nonsense and basically exposing yourself to a section of people who actually thought fairly high of you.

Dyson Is An Intellectual Imposter Like Drake Is A Rap Imposter. And He Is Hurt Because Of Skin Color. We Know The History Of The I Ain't Black Mix People, The Are The Water Carriers For Imperialistic Colonialism.

Gate keepers 🤔 More of the Katt effect. Dyson and Mahr are of the same ilk. Let them show themselves for who they are.

The old guard keeps exposing themselves... LoL Kendrick is doing more to clean house than I could've ever imagined. 🙏🏾 These older so-called conscious, academics, and activist cats are so out of touch it's a shame!!!

Did anyone actually read the article Dyson was speaking about? That might have helped to give more context to the discussion.

The fact that he’s probably been the biggest pop star/rapper of the past 10 years, and he’s never used his platform to speak up about black issues is one of the reasons why this needed to happen. As far as I’m concerned, hip hop has always been an art form that you would use to express how unjust certain factors of society is, and if you’re not releasing music and expressing yourself like Chuck D you’re doing it completely wrong. The problem is, too many tappers wanna be the bad boy and come across like some kind of scarface, and get all the things that come with it, when they’re not that.

Yall conflicting race with ethnicity and nationality. Kendrick was talking about OUR culture. Drake didn't grow up in Black American culture. Drake identifies as a black Canadian. Drake, just like 21 Savage, Kodak Black, Nicki Minaj, etc, are guests in OUR culture. The difference with them is that they grew up in OUR culture. Stop looking at our culture to include all black ppl in America. Black Americans are an ethnic group, we been here for centuries. We're not immigrants. The reason we don't talk about Cole like this is because Cole is 100% American and he was raised in America and was around his father's culture. Stop comparing a mixed American to a mixed Canadian. Again, Kendrick WAS talking about culture.

Dude, come off it. Black is Black is Black. Only ninjas, seemingly, get it confused. It doesn't matter where a Black person grows up or lived. Not one bit. We Black people are not a monolith; we've always been diverse. We all couldn't move the same way even if we wanted to. People just don't like Drake. And that's fine. Because there are millions around the world who do. We don't have any right to shut down his career because of his content. What about the content of mumble rappers? What about the content of drill rappers? What about the content of trap rappers? What about the content of conscious rappers? Trying to destroy Drake, for whatever reason, is a slippery slope. That's my nickel.

@@realgems1975 first off, there is a difference between Black and black. When we say Black culture, we're specifically talking about Black Americans(ethnic group). Black culture doesn't include every black person. So, yes, we do have the right to shut outsiders out of OUR culture, tf. Drake moves funny behind the scenes. Even Ak said he heard Drake was a phucc ninja. He was told to keep it Canadian and he didn't. Also, next time maybe he will leave their wives out of the beefs. All we see is Drake, the Black man. But they know Aubrey, the white Jewish Canadian. As far as mumble rap, trap rap, etc. That's all created by Black culture.

It’s ok to question Drake’s blackness because Drake tried to ridicule Kendrick’s blackness by saying Kendrick raps like he’s trying to free slaves. It’s fair game. I’m disappointed in how wrong Dyson’s take was.

Michael Eric Dyson has always been a clown. He jumped on hip hop with Tupac’s death. & then made himself a figure in the culture. He isn’t having a moment that’s new. & on his regular ish. Dyson isn’t tripping he’s being Dyson. You got what Kendrick meant. In every regard, all of you. Dyson didn’t. - an old OldHead

I have no problem with anything Michael Eric Dyson said. So glad he spoke on this. I'm a Kendrick Lamar fan, but Kendrick ain't Jesus Christ. And he can be questioned. In fact, anything that one cannot question is questionable. Why does it have to be an either/or? People can like or respect both. And another thing, both Eminem and Drake have expanded the boundaries of hip-hop. Neither Eminem nor Drake has to get permission to do their things in hip-hop--they are not guests. They can color their pictures any way they so choose--they're not guests in hip-hop. Lastly, I believe Drizzy won the battle against K-Dot. Most folk, seemingly, disagree with my position. No worries. Everybody's gonna see things his or her own way.
