I’m a web developer and I use Safari for my personal browsing for a few reasons: 1. Syncing (especially tab groups) with my phone and iPad. 2. Better battery life. 3. I don’t want Chromium’s engine to be the only viable web renderer (which is closer to happening because Edge switched to it under the hood). 4. Most of my web dev happens in Chrome because of the better dev tools, so like having my personal browsing isolated from my dev browsing.

I've switched between Firefox, Chrome, and Safari over the years. Once talented devs were making extensions for Safari, I found myself defaulting back to it. 1:47:20 Gen X’er here … the stripes are NOT from the old iPhone wallpaper. That wallpaper was a retro homage to the Apple II era of Apple with the curvy 1970s font. The big stripes were in use all the time around 1980-1983, and the welcome-training software to the Apple IIe used them (despite the fact the HGR graphics had only 4 colors plus B&W). I lived through that era as a young kid and was forever disappointed that the full rainbow stripes never returned, with never enough courage to use them. They were used on a sponsored Apple car (racing car) around then, but that wallpaper was great and so were the parachute jumpsuits.

Just as a little response to the discussion on health monitoring on the Apple Watch/or Smart watches - pretty much everyone in the panel is in good shape, young, and (I assume) without any significant health issues. As you get older or struggle with things like weight, that health monitoring can be very important and helpful to gauge daily health. I find it very helpful in various aspects(without going into my health).

48:00 Minor point - I agree about the redundancy of Control Center's new pagination; however, it won't be that hard to access the lower pages because they mentioned in the keynote that if you hold and drag further down when swiping to open CC, it will quickly bring you through the pages without needing to scroll through each page individually so I think it'll actually save more time than having everything on one page within sub-menus.

about the gripe david had with the new control center: it seems the solution to tapping in so much to get to the wifi is partially solved by doing the swipe all the way down and instantly getting to that page. i understand that the muscle memory is to go into the little square on page 1 but now i can just swipe all the way down to the last page and see all of those options faster. i do agree with the tinting though, at first i thought it would be cool but instantly realized that there's no way the average person is going to make it look nice at all 😂

Marques is spot on. Safari and WebKit's efficiency is unrivaled on macOS. I assume the team are all on the latest high spec Apple Silicon Macs, but if you have an older Intel machine you really notice how optimised Safari is and how Chromium-based browsers (yes including Arc, etc.) are absolute dogs when it comes to performance. This may not be noticeable in terms of lag/hiccups on a later machine but Apple consistently markets battery life gains with Safari, maybe look into that if you're doubting its efficiency.

Regarding the ring streak pausing, this is actually pretty great for neurodivergent folks. I’m autistic, and I obsess over that streak. Breaking it is anxiety inducing. I completely realize the streak is literally broken, but building a “rule” into the procedure is helpful for folks like me. No idea if Apple had neurodivergence in mind here, but I appreciate regardless.

Same here. I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and had to stop using my Apple Watch for this very reason.

This podcast went from interesting to downright stressful to watch/listen. It’s like nothing new is interesting anymore to them. Everything is a punch bag and they’re soooo deep into a bubble they can’t care less for the bigger picture.

No one on this pod understands what the average person uses. Perspective is very important and at some points I feel like you guys are out of touch.

I agree. It’s very apparent when discussing the custom home screen colors and how they dislike other people’s taste of Home Screen preferences. I think Andrew’s perspective best reflects that of the average consumer and they constantly clown him for his takes/opinions. It’s a bit close minded at times and I can’t help but to roll my eyes every time they shut down an opinion that doesn’t align with their super “techy” world view.

Airpods have been very good at cancelling noise for the airpod user, but not for the person on the other end. I have been struggling with this because my company has us working in one of those "open" workspaces, with 27" standing desks, lined up right next to each other, so, webex calls are very difficult, when it comes to background noise. You end up having to do "push to talk" to make it bearable for everyone else on the call. I assumed the AirPods already had this feature but sadly found out that they did not. Can't wait to get this upgrade!!!

1:04:24 *FIGHT OR FLIGHT INSTINCT TRIGGERED* Today marks 10 years since I graduated from high school and I have not had to think of the Slope-Intercept formula since then, but every so often someone brings it up online and I'm still haunted by it.

I know Dr. Mike hates fitness trackers but that "body battery" thing sounds dope as hell and makes me want a Garmin watch. But also my therapist said i track things too much
