I’m a web developer and I use Safari for my personal browsing for a few reasons: 1. Syncing (especially tab groups) with my phone and iPad. 2. Better battery life. 3. I don’t want Chromium’s engine to be the only viable web renderer (which is closer to happening because Edge switched to it under the hood). 4. Most of my web dev happens in Chrome because of the better dev tools, so like having my personal browsing isolated from my dev browsing.

1:47:20 Gen X’er here … the stripes are NOT from the old iPhone wallpaper. That wallpaper was a retro homage to the Apple II era of Apple with the curvy 1970s font. The big stripes were in use all the time around 1980-1983, and the welcome-training software to the Apple IIe used them (despite the fact the HGR graphics had only 4 colors plus B&W). I lived through that era as a young kid and was forever disappointed that the full rainbow stripes never returned, with never enough courage to use them. They were used on a sponsored Apple car (racing car) around then, but that wallpaper was great and so were the parachute jumpsuits.

48:00 Minor point - I agree about the redundancy of Control Center's new pagination; however, it won't be that hard to access the lower pages because they mentioned in the keynote that if you hold and drag further down when swiping to open CC, it will quickly bring you through the pages without needing to scroll through each page individually so I think it'll actually save more time than having everything on one page within sub-menus.

about the gripe david had with the new control center: it seems the solution to tapping in so much to get to the wifi is partially solved by doing the swipe all the way down and instantly getting to that page. i understand that the muscle memory is to go into the little square on page 1 but now i can just swipe all the way down to the last page and see all of those options faster. i do agree with the tinting though, at first i thought it would be cool but instantly realized that there's no way the average person is going to make it look nice at all 😂

Marques is spot on. Safari and WebKit's efficiency is unrivaled on macOS. I assume the team are all on the latest high spec Apple Silicon Macs, but if you have an older Intel machine you really notice how optimised Safari is and how Chromium-based browsers (yes including Arc, etc.) are absolute dogs when it comes to performance. This may not be noticeable in terms of lag/hiccups on a later machine but Apple consistently markets battery life gains with Safari, maybe look into that if you're doubting its efficiency.
