I absolutely adore this song. It’s top 5 New Order, for me. There is something so melancholy about it, both in its lyrics, its vocal delivery and its instrumentation. Glad you dig it too. They’re touring with Pet Shop Boys in Europe and if they come to America that’s two more bands I can check off my bucket list. I just saw Depeche Mode, who you’d love since you love this.

totally agree about Depeche Mode. I saw them in 1999 in Philly, but I think I just missed them!!

New Order are incredible. They owned the dancefloor in the 80's alternative clubs. When checking out their music, always go for extended mixes (they are always so much better): Bizarre Love Triangle, 1963, Crystal, True Faith, Touched by the Hand of God, Thieves Like Us, Perfect Kiss, State of the Nation, Shellshock... there's more but those can get you started. But True Faith and Bizarre Love Triangle extended mixes are must hears!

Awesome -- so glad you liked that. I think you have a great knack for melody and I think both Summertime and Regret have a great turn of melody... That's one of the things I really appreciate when I listen to your reactions -- you really respond well to great, solid, melodic rock. I'll keep trying to find some more! Thanks for your reaction!

Can’t get enough New Order. Please try Temptation (one of many songs with that title) from the Trainspotting soundtrack ❤
@Rorschachqp5 ай бұрын
FYI, Temptation by New Order is NOT on the Trainspotting 1 soundtrack. There is a Temptation song but that one is by Heaven 17, which is the song you hear in the club. The best version of Temptation '87 by New Order is likely the double album Substance. This is the song that Diane sings to Renton when he has his withdrawal nightmares...quite ironic since she's an underage temptress.

@@Rorschachqp Wasn’t it on a second CD? The first was all the music, while some on the second CD were some that were more “related”? I may be wrong. To be honest, I have all the music from all of those anyway on my phone. And shamefully it’s been wasaay to long since I rewatched a movie that is so close to my heart. ❤️

Salvo there is a genre called Shoegaze - This is Not it, but just to there demonstrate that there are definitely sub-genres that capture very specific feels. Dream Pop is the closest I can describe for this. :-)

K-Rock in the 80s was literally the soundtrack to my life from High School to College growing up during the 80s in the San Fernando Valley of LA. It formed my musical DNA and turned me into a complete Anglophile by exposing me to the tidal wave of UK bands and artists which was the foundation of KROQ at that time and New Order being a prime example. That station was the shit!
@sonnyjames892211 ай бұрын
@@jerrycote659 Yep, I used to listen to Richard Blade's flashback lunch in the afternoon whenever driving around mid-day in the late 80's, early 90's. They used to have interviews with Morrissey and Depeche Mode. Saw New Order play the Hollywood Bowl sometime in the 90's. Surprised how good their music is live. Gillian on the keyboard. Peter Hook on the bass. Tall guy (Stephen Morris) on drums. Bernard Sumner on vocals. Peter was a guitar God. Bernard would dance like an ostrich, but sounded great. New Order was Joy Division post-Ian Curtis, R.I.P.

The importance of the Hacienda as the birthplace of Rave/Ecstasy culture can't be emphasized enough. This club was the birthplace of Rave/Ecstasy culture and all modern electronica music comes from it. The band's contemporaries were groups like Human League, Pet Shop Boys, OMD, Depeche Mode Soft Cell and many more. But the Rave culture was where DJs became the stars, which directly inspired famous DJs from Moby to DJ Shadow to producers like BT and house music. Many legendary groups were born from this such as Orbital and Leftfield. This landmark and historic club was run by Factory Records and back then the only act signed to that label that was making money was New Order. So basically they paid for this massive part of music legend. A lot of people abuse the word "legend". The Hacienda, now gone, it's story and impact is truly legendary.

Regret is a later song and came out, I believe, after that time was close to over and the Hacienda and the Madchester movement ended. This was a 1991 release song. New Order fans mostly thought of this as their latest single after they had already released like 20 singles and had extremely iconic hits like Temptation, Blue Monday, True Faith, Bizarre Love Triangle, Perfect Kiss, Shellshock, Vanishing Point, Round And Round, etc.

Too much cocaine and fighting between Hook and Sumner. I enjoy Regret, World (The Price Of Love), Ruined In A Day, and Spooky. The rest of the album is boring. The only other album of theirs I have to skip tracks is Waiting For The Siren's Call. Of course Hook and Sumner were bickering while making that album.
