New Orleans Butter Beans
Red Beans and Rice vs Butter Beans - IDK so hard to choose - BTW - this is an easy, but not quick recipe.
First time I ever had them was at Willie Mae's Scotch House in New Orleans. They claim to have the best. I have not tasted all of them, but damn....
After trying several recipes, these seem to be as close as I can remember to Willie Mae's

My grandma in New Orleans makes them with cubed smoked ham- I don’t think she uses butter in them, but that sounds good!

I've been eating these beans for over 70 years. Great with cornbread and buttermilk.......

I've done them with smoked sausage and had to force myself to stop eating them. I'm soaking Great Northern Beans to cook tomorrow with smoked sausage, Turmeric Rice and I'll probably make a batch of butter biscuits to go with it. I'll sift 2 cups self rising flour into a bowl, cut 3/4-1 stick of butter into the flour and put the bowl into the freezer for at least 20 minutes before adding the 1 cup of milk/heavy cream. I'll either cut out or hand roll the biscuits and put them in my cast iron skillet or on the cast iron griddle. Bake 10-12 minutes in 425°F oven. Sometimes I'll put in sharp cheddar or make them cinnamon.

Hi Patricia - don't know haw many cups - it was a 1 pound bag of large white Lima beans that I soaked over night
