I’ve been using the helmet for a couple of months and been really pleased. I had an Elios and wanted the extra side and rear protection. The weight difference is a bonus. It is very comfortable, to the point where I forget that I am wearing it!

You didn't mention that a helmet only has a lifespam of up to seven years even if it looks perfect becsuse of the glue and polycarbobate which gets brittle and evaporate over the time espacially in the high altititude sun.

Actually other brands have stepped to the standard quite some time ago... BD have Vector and Vapor, Grivel has Stealth, Camp has the new Storm and Mammut has the Wallrider. So it's not that new a thing, the fuss around it is fresh.

Your old helmet is the Meteor III, but the new one is the 5th version, or what Petzl calls it, Meteor.

Yeah. Cracked helmets are as cool as core shot ropes. Also those old slings from rappels are totally worth reusing...

What's your thoughts on the size adjustment? I use a Boreo for caving and mine exploration and have some difficulties getting the adjustment right. The Meteor seems to have a very similar system. Other than that, this helmet may be my next choice for both climbing and skimo.
@duncancox62205 жыл бұрын
The Meteor 3 was rates for cycling and canoeing as well as climbing, not sure the new one is.
@sebastianflynn17465 жыл бұрын
It isn't but it is more protective than the meteor 3, it's just a rating they just didn't pay to put the meteor through the tests, for good reason it's pretty damn pointless.

Bit late to comment but theres quite a few brands who actually buy second hand helmets, brands who are looking into producing helmets and need to do some R&R, or brands who are doing safety demonstrations or other educationally videos. Selling it to other consumers to use in outdoor terrain I can't see anyone would actually buy a second hand helmet but for the other stuff I mentioned its more likely.

Such a shame they stayed with EPS instead of the more modern and less fragile EPP like the mammut wallrider and sirrocco.

You didn't mention the buckle. It has to be the worse design out there, the magnets always clog up with dirt particles.
@dailyclimbing5 жыл бұрын
Honestly we've never noticed that as a problem. The new design has been tweaked with the buckle as well, so it might be better...
@GavynPendleton5 жыл бұрын
If my MTB one hasn’t clogged up yet I doubt a climbing one would
@AMM19985 жыл бұрын
Maybe you shouldn't be throwing your helmet in piles of dirt. Take better care of your shit. Nobody else seems to have that problem.
@alexhartshorne83085 жыл бұрын
Yeah the buckles are terrible here in Australia where the dirt has quite alot of iron in it. However the magnets can easily be removed by tapping out with a screwdriver.

As a motorcycle rider for over 30 years I have always hated helmets, they look stupid and actually impair vision and sound if they are full face. They are way too thick and heavy, even the lightest ones suck. With climbing I feel the same way, I hate them but I wear them, I wish they would make them thinner and lighter, don't tell me they don't have the technology, they do.
