Modern Peugeot cars look fantastic as do some of the modern Citroën car. The only issue with Citroën is they are obsessed with SUV shaped cars.

Proof that it's important to take what reviewers say with a grain of salt. I spent a week in a 508 GT and a week with a 3008 and the driving position was fantastic. Loved the tiny wheel in my lap. Try before you buy (or dismiss it).

Yes, important to try - I am 6.2 foot tall and my driving position makes in impossible for me to read the dash in those peugeots, I tried a few. So, no Peugeot for me as long as they keep this small steering wheel and dash position.

@StevePoyza well said. I had a couple of Peugeot's on hire over the last few years. Always found the driving position/i cockpit setup easy to get on with. I'm just under 6ft. In fact it's great because you can see all the instruments with any interference from the steering wheel. I now actually have a two month old 2008 as my main daily car.

I’d agree with that. I saw one drive past me today and said to my friend I didn’t know Rob had an RS6, he said no it’s a Peugeot and it’s got 350 horse power. It was an impressive looker no doubt about it. Hence I’m here having a look at another fast estate.

@@neilbowness6074 not quite. second tier/lefthand alternatives does not quite mean a start of anything. A good direction, yeah, maybe but are we at the point where we aplaud normality/decency? Well, I'll start clapping my hands when they'll start making a GR Yaris or a type R competitor. We have enough borring cars pretending to be something else these days. And there isn't a person who consider himself a car guy or a person who really enjoys driving as an activity/hobby.. you know, driving for the fun of it..who would rather be in a hybrid big estate instead of a proper driver's car. And no, the financial argument of owning only one car does not stand when the car in discussion is 56k. Any real person who enjoys driving, having "only" 56k for a new car, would take a 35k type R(or a GR), get a 10-15k good family carrier from the second-hand market and with the remaining 5k would plan a 2 weeks tour through the Alps on some of the best driving roads the world has ever seen. Everything else is pure BS and ppl finding excuses for anything. edit. I said gr and the type R as I was reffering to proper driver's cars available from showroom floors. For the same amount, i. e. 35k, you have a wide.. really wide pallet of second-hand proper sports cars in all sorts of shapes and forms. A 2 tons, 5 meters long estate will never, #never! be a proper driver's car.

@@neilbowness6074 for sure, with no arguments beside some obscure personal case, yeah, if I were you, I would have said exactly the same thing. but, as I am not you and as I also, occasionally, use my reason and logic, here it goes: A. this 5 meter, 2 tons, estate car it is NOT a driver's car!, waiting for your argument that proves it is. B. NO 5 meter, 2 tons car is a proper driver's car!, same as above, I'll be looking fwd for your argument that says it is; with examples. C. considering all the above, no real passionate driver would ever buy one! D. at 56k, not even the most dis-passionate driver but passionate person about Peugeot brand will not buy one, as it is, from every POV, a money pit. It would be simple to just burn your money... or, even better, make some donation, help some ppl less fortunate than you. It is probably, by far, a more rewarding thing to do than buy this junk of a car. E. this is coming from a guy who almost brought a rcz. the difference is, that was an interesting car while this one is pure crap... and an expensive crap nonetheless.

@@ollie-t7862 let's hope not. Let's hope next time, if it will be a next time, Peugeot builds a GR Yaris or a civic R type of car and not this nonsense useless 2 tons, 5 meter slow tech fest. Ppl want driver's cars not heavy, un-sporty sallons/estates which are not A6s. Don't know about UK but, have any of you checked the current second-hand prices for real driver's cars?, cars that are less likey to ever be produced again?, low mileage Evo 6s and 9s go up to 100k euros, good 2011 STIs are in excess of 40k euros. FFs, good clio RS 182s are 15k(which was the price from new; and good luck if you want to find a good Clio 3 RS, cup chassis, in that awesome GT3RS green paint). Even the cheap, relatively, untill a couple of years ago caymans and boxters - I could have brought a fender bent 718 2.5l manual one with 40k euros, 2 years ago; now, it is 55k - . 2011-12-13 GT86/BRZ are 15 to 23k. New 2021 type Rs and 2-3 year old type Rs are mostly within 5-6k euro difference in price.. and, most of what people perceive as driver's car have gone up in prices. This the reason for which the gr yaris is such a success and it is in wild demand.. it is because driver's cars are a dying breed and instead, we get dumb cars like this estate hybrid Peugeot. just go ahead and check the prices for proper cars with manual gb, proper chassis and driving dynamics and a decent power unit. In 10 years, a currently 35k GR yaris will still be/value 35k.. if not more. In 10 years, this pile of junk will be 6 to 8k at the most. Get your brains out of your... aa... crossovers and demand proper driving cars from your favorite brands.. and then, make sure you are supporting them by buying the actual cars! if not, in 15 years, the only thing will ever be doing in our cars will be to check diff apps on our phones.

Love this video and car, thank you - but, the old 'can't see the dials for the wheel' Peugeot review trope. You're doing it wrong, Henry. You're actually meant to have the steering wheel set much lower than you would in other cars. It looks like you've angled it up like a 'conventional' car. It feels really, really weird at first, but after a day or two, it clicks. You get the agile placebo from the small wheel and a clear view of the dials. Only problem is, one you've adapted, every other car feels odd...

Not sure I'd spend that much on this, but the 508 in general is a very attracting car. For 58k though... there are alternatives. You can literally get an XF Estate P300 with the R Dynamic HSE package for 10k cheaper, it has a bit less power and no electric power but it's a JAAAAG. Or you could also get a BMW 340i touring with the 3.0 Inline 6, similarly powerful, and even tick a few options. If this 508 had a V6, there would be no question about it being worth every penny. But it doesn't.

I'm perfectly happy with the regular 508 GT. It is bloody fun to ride, but for all those extra cash, I better spend it on optimizing the engine and the automatic gear train. It will cost less, and I'll get roughly the same amount of bhp out of it. On top of that, it will use less fuel and shift gears at far better timing than currently. Ok, I won't be able to ride ECO-friendly but you can't have it all.

Italians are the same. if both countries got their acts together they could dominate the auto market. They have the design flare to pull it off. Look at what Volvo is doing with their cars.

The price is not the issue with that car. It simply will not appeal to the target audience with the small 1.6 litre engine because with that engine it will not have the desired luxury feel. While it might be sporty and fast it will simply not appeal. If they created that package in a Coupe car that was marketed as a sports car it may appeal to the buyers. BMW and Audi now dominate that segment of the market when in the past it used to be Citroën, Peugeot, Opel and Vauxhall.

@@bighands69 i think the price plays a major part ...frogmobiles have never been 50+ k and are more susceptible to huge depreciation historically . Lots of manufactures are hiding small yet efficient engines ie Audi 30, 35, 40 ect . Design and brand image are still 90% of sales. I think Peugeot are brave launching this car but they’ve got the price tag wrong unless its a marketing ploy they never really expected to build numbers of . The look of the car and its potential performance ( which 95% of buyers never use) are very tempting i recently came out of a 520d estate which was a nightmare (9 warranty claims from brand new in 3 years) to have replaced it wouldn’t have been far off 50K.

@@neilcollins5930 We are in strange market times with European auto manufacturers being boxed in by EU regulations. It is simply a fact that European car manufacturers cannot compete with Asian manufacturers on price. PSA group has a decision to make and clearly they are setting out their stall in they want to get back into the luxury segment of the market that they used to be in. Cheaper lower quality cars simply is a difficult market for European manufacturers to be in. At one point Citroen and Peugeot were on a par with the likes of Audi. Price does not matter when they are aiming for the luxury market as Volvo have already shown by their switch. The issue with this estate is the fact it is a performance car with a 1.6 litre engine which would be fine in a smaller luxury coupe but not a larger executive family sized car. The performance of this car will not appeal to European middle class who will be buying the car on finance and keeping for several years as a luxury car. manufacturers

@@bighands69 Stellantis the owner of Peugeot collectively sold 4.3 million cars in 2019 , 2020 will have shown a drop however the collective power of the group with its massive data will show them what is worth making . I still believe the 508 SW Sport is aimed at the 30-35 year old family group with high combined family income , however i still believe its too expensive for the majority of this sector . This group are completely relaxed with all forms of tech and will relish the fact that a 1.6 litre engine powers the car. Older people are now some of the biggest purchasers of EV’s.

The price is not the problem it is a luxury car the issue is the choice of engine. At one point the likes of Audi could not hold a candle to Citroën and they were considered overpriced. At some point Peugeot and the French manufacturers have to start producing executive luxury cars again and this is not the time to try.
