@@DjNikGnashers *Marginally faster to 60, woo. Looks are subjective (eye of the beholder and all that) but this Pug is quite a bit better looking with a much better interior. BMW stuff is pretty well screwed together but so is modern Peugeot stuff. @DjNikGnashers3 жыл бұрын
@@skylined5534 BMW's are generally 50/50 weight distribution front-to-rear, and RWD. This makes them brilliant to drive, and why they brag about 'ultimate driving machine' tagline. They drive better than Audi's, VW's etc, and those brands drive better than any Peugeot. I have yet to drive a Peugeot (or even see any review of one), that drives even close to the BMW equivalent. The M340i isn't marginally faster, it's a LOT faster. Increment gains, ie the faster a car accelerates, the more an increasingly smaller margin will make a difference. The M340i is about a second quicker to 60, and when your talking 4 to 6 second acceleration times, 1 second is massive. I work at a multi franchaise dealership, one which includes Peugeot, Citroen, Vauxhall & Mazda, so I know exactly how 'well screwed together' any Peugeot is. I also own a 2017 BMW, for comparison. There is no comparison, quite frankly, any BMW is on another level in performance, handling, and build quality.
@skylined55343 жыл бұрын
@@DjNikGnashers 1 second isn't much in regards to an irrelevant form of a perceived performance datum. Through gear acceleration is where it's at. To that end I wouldn't be all that shocked to find this far larger, heavier ESTATE car wasn't much slower across the quarter mile. As for the 50/50 balance myth, it's just something dreamed up by canny manufacturers to sell cars to people like you. Far more important is distribution of mass. True enough you don't want a huge discrepancy in weight distribution but seeing as most modern cars will have at worst 60/40 and more typically closer the average BMW's 53/47 isn't an advantage. Clever marketing though.

@@robsmith1a That's a sweeping statement, and quite frankly, means nothing. Not all 'older cars' depreciate the same, and not all 'older cars' have parts which are as expensive. French car parts are ridiculously expensive, and it's where they (the manufacturer), makes their money. Hyundai used to be cheap cars to buy, until a couple of years ago, and even their prices have shot up. But, the ethos was, sell the cars cheaply, with a great 5 year warranty, and people will keep buying them every 5 years. The people who drive out-of-warranty Hyundai's, pay the price because their parts are stupidly expensive. It is the same with French cars too. Buy an expensive car (expensive to buy new), and you might be surprised that the parts are actually reasonable, and cheaper than a cheap-to-buy-new car. The company has already made their profit from the new car purchase, and as such, parts are more reasonable to buy. I work in the motor trade by the way, and I do understand how the whole thing works.

I've been a Fan of Peugeots for a while now, although mostly lusting over the older ones, and I've never really truly been a big fan of modern cars, especially modern Peugeot, but this thing really makes me go "Bwoah, what a looker". I finally get to feel proud of what my favourite manufacturer is making, and even if it wasn't the most powerful Peugeot ever, id still love it, and it really makes me think that Peugeot might finally be looked at in a better light after so long.

Having recently seen these on Australian roads, I was really pleasantly surprised that it’s a Peugeot. And I drooled. I’ve been eyeing the VWs, Audis, etc., but this 508 is swaying me. I loved my 1999 306 D Turbo back in its day for its good looks, comfort and refinement but its predecessors have not been nearly as exciting imho. This 508 has truly been given every attention to detail - the font of the ‘0’ in the ‘508’ appears to be matched in the steering wheel. This is a car that could sway me once again from VW, just as the 306 did.

@anydaynow013 жыл бұрын
@@scunnerdarkly4929 Especially with it being a PHEV, for some reason they depreciate faster than others since people are spooked about buying a used EV and remaining battery life, even though with liquid cooling and proper charge management it will be fine for hundreds of thousands of km and thus an amazing bargain.

I agree it’s expensive but you don’t have to buy the top of the range model. I believe there’s a mild hybrid version lower down that looks just as good.

Peugeot's designs are on point at the moment. You can lease one of these for £700 ish a month over 4 years, which is significantly more than a 540i touring lease, that's going to be a tough sell.

This is more money and performance than I need, but it's great to see a new estate! Peugeot have really upped their game. We have the e2008 as a family car. It feels far more premium than I'd expected. I only wish there'd been an (electric) estate option at that price point.

First of all just want to thank you for the quality of videos you put out there for us the viewers to enjoy. I've enjoyed your style as a presenter since the days of Fifth Gear. On another note, if possible, I would enjoy a video review of the Volvo V60 T6 Recharge (it's a car I'm actually considering to buy). Performance specs wise it seems reasonably close to this (although not really quite up there with this on paper), it's quite a bit cheaper and in a way it still seems a nice alternative to the germans while "doing it's own thing". The real rival to this would probably be the V60 T8 Polestar Engineered, but I believe it's even more expensive than this and the T6 Recharge seems to be a bit more interesting for the "real world consumer" perhaps? Cheers :)

I was on a busines trip to Lyon not long after the new 508 had come out, most taxis they provided me with very new very nicely specced Mercedes E class, apart from one day they turned up with the new 508 and I did not feel short changed, it is a well sorted car that did not feel any less well screwed together or furnished than the Mercedes, who are themselves on a high at the moment.

It reminds me a little of the e-legend prototype and the 505 or 504 estates in the front with the bonnet sticking out a little over the lights, I really like the look of it. My family used to own the 504, 505 and 405 estates, and they were all great cars but my best childhood memory from them were the third row of seats in the 504. That 504 was actually sold from Norway to be used as a taxi in Africa, since Africans used to love those peugeots back at the time.
