Peugeot has been pushing itself upmarket for quite a while now, with models like its E-3008 edging into premium price territory where the likes of Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Tesla and Volvo normally fight it out.
Now it's the turn of the Peugeot E-5008. This is the all-new successor to Peugeot's popular, seven-seat family SUV, and it sits on an extended version of the STLA platform that also lurks beneath the 3008. At 4.8m long, 1.9m wide and 1.7m tall it's a bit bigger than a Mercedes EQB but smaller than the Kia EV9, which are (apart from the left-hand drive only Tesla Model X) the only other electric seven-seaters you can currently buy.
As for the looks? The high waist and pronounced shoulders of the E-5008 give it a presence which says you are an exciting parent who does interesting things at the weekend, so that you can feel good about yourself even while you do the inevitable tedious taxi runs that parenting mostly consists of.
The 73kWh battery in the E-5008 is offered with two powertrains; a single, 211bhp motor that drives the front wheels, or a dual motor, all-wheel drive model with 318bhp. Both manage a WLTP range of up to 311 miles, although that figure for the all-wheel drive model is still awaiting approval. The 98kWh battery is only offered with that single motor, front-wheel drive setup, for a claimed range of 410 miles.
Charging is up to 160kW at a rapid charger, which is good for a 62-mile top-up in 10 minutes or an 80% charge in around 30 minutes. AC charging peaks at 11kW as standard, or can optionally be boosted to 22kW, although most owners will charge at home using a 7kW charger (the fastest charge that you can support at most domestic properties in the UK), which will manage a full charge in around 11- to 15 hours depending on the battery size. You have to pay extra for an efficiency-boosting heat pump, though.
Join Ginny as she takes a close look around the new e5008. Will it be on your shortlist? Let us know in the comments below.

Great. It actually looks like the current model that has loads of space. Its smaller sibling had us doubting that the 5008 would have a decent boot space and if you don’t need the rear two seats then it has. As a family with a wheelchair user this probably has room for both a fixed frame manual chair and a small electric wheelchair as well 👍. The price of, I think she said £47k 😮. Might make it have a very big up front payment if it becomes available on the Motability scheme. Somehow don’t think the government will be increasing their input into the Motability funding to make electric cars within the reach of disabled people as they should, because electric cars have the potential to make one pedal diving so much easier for the less dextrose disabled folk. Its apparent ride height may make it easier to access than the mountain that is the Kia EV 9 Nice one Peugeot. 👍

So you put 5 people in this car, together with their stuff, go for a journey and... have to charge after 200km if you want to stay within SoC allowing a quick charge - and that if you don't drive too fast. What's the point of a large electric SUV? And about the curved screen - well, it looks nice, but what if the front passenger would like to do something on it? It's not only far away, but also curved away from them. So I'm not so sure about those ergonomics...

Peugeot missed it in two points. They may be accurate that only 20% of old customers used all three isofixes, but the OLD 5008 was one of the multiple five/seven seaters on the market. By not including this feature they missed the chance of being (probably) the first seven seater (as large booth) with a space for three seats in the rear without mounting additional solutions. Second, boot. who got the idea that having an angled floor is a good solution for a family car? and because its ofc FWD there is no frunk? so cables and repair kit will be always under your luggage? And you are wrong. we don't like powered operated seats. they are great for a luxury segment, if you carry kids, you want to lower, raise and move the seats asap. and manual latches are the fastest way.

But is this car good for 3 small children? They need car seats and with car seats in, you can't fold the middle row. So either you put all three in the middle row (and then you don't need the 3rd row at all), or you put two in back, one in the middle - which is awkward and the boot is now small. A wide five seater with large boot is a better fit for such a family.

Probably 4 months of the year where I use mine, rather than put the climate control to heat the cabin. It’s vastly more efficient to use heated seats (and steering wheel), and personally, it warms my core up much more quickly, so I’ve come to prefer it. Even in my wife’s diesel, we start with the seats on, because the heat is so quick. Once the engine is warm however, there’s so much wasted heat, that the temp on the climate control will get turned up and the seats go off. Edit: what’s annoying, after watching the whole thing, is that to get heated seats and steering wheel, you have to spec the higher and highest spec car. Heated seats should be one thing you can choose to have or not have.

Head is spinning over how many new EVs are coming to the market in the next year to 18 months. The end of ice is very much now in sight. I still think pretty much all new sales of cars will be EV by end 2028. Especially as batteries are clearly getting bigger and cheaper. That's a huge battery for the price. Not a car I will ever need again, but has enough tech to do the job. Shame the EV9 is better in every way that counts. A nearly new one of those over the 5008? I think they should stop disguising a minivan in the shape of SUV. If you need a minivan nothing else can give you the same functionality. Jusy imagine if you had electric powered big sliding doors, full size 3rd row seats and a proper boot. Yes, a minivan is a good concept for functionality.

Just like 65% of the population, we are a 2 person household, and most of the people we know are single or 2. Still most people seem to think they NEED a car with at least 4 doors and 6 seats . . . . . Preferably over 2.5 metric tons and over 5 meters length. I wonder why.

Is thie an English review as you can easily see it is a bit BS negative just because the car is French. If this was made in England they would be like wow what a great car, the best car in the world 😄 🤣 Luckily we do not longer see these unreliable english brands onthe road.

How many people actually have 5 children and need a 7 seater?

Plenty. We ended up getting 2 smaller evs as the merc was useless with 7 seats up and kia too expensive. This would have likely done the job.

Not that many, but little kids do activities with lots of other little kids. I’ve often wanted more seats to transport family and friends. Sometimes I hire a 7 seater because it is more convenient to travel together than try and go longer distances in multiple cars.
@MykolaDzham

It's not expected to be used as a 7 seater daily. It's a primary 5 seater with a big boot (and you need a big boot even with two kids), that can be converted to 7 seater occasionally as a bonus (and this is very practical to be able to do that from time to time: to also transfer grandparents of kids, or their few friends etc)
