Really annoys me how no car reviewer can tell me what batteries are in evs. Yes you tell me the capacity but is it lithium iron phosphate or is it lithium ion? If so is it 4680s, 2170s or 18650s? Sort it out as these things matter. Youre quite capable of describing combustion engines cylinders, arrangement, displacement with horsepower and torque so do the same for evs.

Exactly! And one more thing; Is it 400V, 600V or 800V etc.... These are all important information, just like in ICE, like how much power, torque, petrol or diesel, engine capacity, Inline 4 or Flat 4/6 or V6 etc!! We need to know its battery type, composition & Voltage Rating etc....

Well Peugeot did not put it in the info pckage and they all simply say what the producer wrote down. They never ask uestions because they want to be invited to these fancy locations 😂😂😂 You can fairly assume that small batteries under 50-60kWh are usually now LFP since that is cheaper , all above is usually NMC because the LFP needs more space and thus you cannot pack large packs. So yeah, you are totally right. And Stellantis does not run 800V yet, to my knowledge.

The only problem compared to the EV9 is that the big battery in this car won't be on sale this year and the EV9 is already on the road. So it's a bit odd to compare the price and real-world range of the Kia with the theoretical claims for this Peugeot.
@ferrariforever1
@ferrariforever1 6 ай бұрын
The wltp range of both cars should be obtained using the exact same methodology, right? Then it doesn't matter whether a car has been on sale or not.
@Dqtube
@Dqtube 6 ай бұрын
@@ferrariforever1 No, WLTP test conditions can vary because there is no one central authority responsible for verifying these tests (such as the EPA in the US). Therefore, some car makers are cherry-picking a car configuration for the test that will not be on sale in all markets, or it will be a time-limited offer for only the initial few months of sales. So a majority of potential customers will not be able to buy it. In the case of this car, Peugeot is trying to sell that it will have the same consumption (15-16 kWh/100 km, a figure from independent tests) as their e3008, which is a smaller, lighter and more aerodynamic car.
6 ай бұрын
@@Dqtube well, no. 3008 has wltp of 720km, 5008 with same battery has 660km. In german price list you can find wltp consuption of 17,8-18,7kWh/100km
@Dqtube
@Dqtube 6 ай бұрын
Well... It's nice that you talk about WLTP, but when I wrote the original post there were already independent tests of the e3008 with a smaller battery and they had 15-16kWh/100km depending on driving style. Even if we wrongly assume that the e3008 version with the larger battery will have similar efficiency to the small one, the car will do about 650km in good weather, not 720km from WLTP. Don't you also see the paradox in your reaction? The larger battery has 98 kWh, but if you try the basic math (660/100)*17.8)=117.48 kWh and (660/100)*18.7=123.42 kWh or vice versa (98/18.7)*100=524km and (98/17.8)*100=550.5km. So what's your point? Even according to their own consumption figures, the car cannot travel 660 km in combined use.
@ferrariforever1
@ferrariforever1 6 ай бұрын
@@Dqtubeyou said in your original post that "it's odd to compare EV9 with the unreleased e-5008". My point is that the wltp test has the same test parameters (acceleration rate, braking rate, top speed) applied to all EVs, so you can compared their wltp values. I am fully aware that the wltp value of a car is often different than the range in reality.

Why dont they go full EV with a dedicated platform? That would allow for structural battery pack with lower centre of gravity, frunk etc. Sharing platform with a with fuel car just takes away lots of the potential. Also I would have liked to see V2L and a 220v outlet, snappier software and the like. It feels like Peugeot is taking a step into the future, while still keeping one foot firmly in the past...

These cars do have the width for three equal seats and three ISOFIX, as our trusty Grand Scenic demonstrates, and after a decade of owning it, we still haven’t found an alternative that isn’t a minibus, and so we are sticking with it for our own sanity until either we no longer have three children living at home (whom we have to get from place to place with the minimum of fighting over seat space) or it has a serious mechanical failure!

But i guess people are being told nowadays that they need a large unpractical "SUV" rather than a practical mpv... Most SUV's dont even have 4wd or any off road prowess other than slightly higher ride heights. To me these kinds of cars are just unpractical, wasteful and unnecessary... I take it you’ve just woked up from a 15 year coma to 2024. I hate to be the one to brake it to you but they havent made MPVs for years and years. Everyone has moved on to these non off-road SUVs and crossover-SUVs. It seems to be because they like the design, higher driving position and ground clearance. Now I know it’s confusing but the term SUV is a very loose one. Nowadays it mostly refers to road going cars with elements from off-road cars. There’s also plenty of subsections like the crossover SUV but it’s story for another day.

@@dcvariousvids8082it is not a given that you need to replace all 4 tyres at once, that depends upon a number of factors. Tyres rarely wear evenly so you often end up with a natural imbalance between axles in any case as most cannot be bothered to rotate tyres. I always replace tyres in pairs though unless I am unlucky enough to get a puncture on an almost new tyre.

@@dcvariousvids8082Isn’t that’s to reduce wear on the centre diff on an ICE car? With separate front and rear motors I can’t see any need to replace all 4 tyres at the same time.

The drop in price compared to a KIA EV9 is welcome, but this is still far too expensive. I'm waiting for a chinese manufacturer to launch an equally well designed (or better?) 7 seater EV that significantly undercuts this on price. Surely its just a matter of time?
