I personally knew his niece 25 years ago. she lived in Adelanto, California. she was 89. she showed me a picture of butch and a pic of her grandson. they were identical as if the same person. she said butch died in the states and actually gave me directions down to the amount of steps where he is buried. she saw him at her mother's funeral standing at the back of the church and he came in a couple times to join them for dinner.

@Christian Voorhees I'm not sure if you ever discussed this photo with Kerrry Boren. If not, you should as my Dad filled him in on the details of this photo and other history about Butch. My Dad passed 18 months ago but Mr. Boren knows the details of Butch's relationship with Henry Sumsion, my Great, Great Grand Father.

Would like to see some more detailed version of the photo. My grandfather told us that when he was working on the railroad he knew Cassidy and was invited to join his gang, but he decided on staying the straight and narrow path instead. Would be cool if he was one of the men in this photo.

There was a story in the Daily Beast about Butch Cassidy & Sundance Kid, that they didn't die in a shoot out in Bolivia, but move on to ranch in Argentina raising cattle. They later returned to the USA, Sundance settling in Wyoming & Butch live awhile in Spokane, before moving back to Utah and made contact with his sister. He had a brother who was mining near Goldfield, NV & died in a mining accident. When Butch died, he wanted to be buried nest to his brother there.

Legend is a funny thing. Butch Cassidy, in his time wasn't as famous as an outlaw as many might assume. He didn't become a household name until later in the 20th century. Dr Steve Lacey who was good friends with Matt Warner's daughter says Robert Leroy Parker, (Butch) died under the alias of Frank Irvin after leaving the outlaw life butch, (Frank) had a career on a section gang and retired from the railroad in the 1930s. I didn't know about this photo. The storiy compliments the photo's authenticity. It could really be Butch.

I think Butch Cassidy was even smarter than I thought he has been pulling people for 115 years still the debate rages I think his family is the ultimate Authority on that and they said he survived and came on and although he had had face surgery the small was still there and they knew instantly it was Butch I mean how many parents don't know their own son even if he has had his face changed his dad didn't recognize him at first but once he smiled he said that's my boy no doubt about it

The man sitting on the trolly is my Great, Great Grandfather. His name was Henry Sumsion, of Sumsion Bros Construction based out of Springville, UT. (The Sumsions and the Dallin's founded Springville.) Henry was recovering from a fall off a horse. Henry and his team built the road & railroad up Provo Canyon. Yes, the gentlemen to his right is a pretty famous guy. When he needed to make some extra money, he looked up his old friend, my GGGF for some work. This was after Butch had some cosmetic work done while hiding in Europe. BTW, my own brother's name is Butch (after you know who). This photo is the real deal and is dated.

It just seems implausible that two men who made a living robbing trains would go to work for the railroad. Did they think nobody would recognize them?
@TalonID3 жыл бұрын
read my note, he went to work for his life long friend whom owned a construction company. BTW - the company still exits.
@howardsmith93423 жыл бұрын
@@TalonID I suppose he could have worked for a contractor who was working on the railroad. Is there a good date for the picture? Butch and Sundance could have worked for a short time between heists before they lit out for Bolivia. But I don't see a reason to get anywhere near the railroad, when half of Wells Fargo and Union Pacific was looking for them. I believe it to be probable they came back. I don't know what happened to Sundance, but Butch is said to have lived in Spokane where he "died" again in 1935. He is also rumored to have survived that also, only to die for real in a mining accident in Nevada in the 1950s. We may never know the whole story.
@TalonID3 жыл бұрын
@@howardsmith9342 don't confuse "The Railroad" with a Springville UT based construction company. Keep in mind, those that liked Butch protected his identity due his "Robin hood" behavior. I don't know who too this photo but many were taken by Smithsonian photographers sent West by the US government to keep an eye on those political (voted in blocks) Mormons. Many photos can be found in both BYU archives as well as the Smithsonian. Most are dated. I'm familiar with the tragic accident at the Johnnie...I don't believe that the man killed was Butch.
@howardsmith93423 жыл бұрын
@@TalonID Like I said, he may have worked for a contractor, not the railroad itself. And he did have fans who would have protected his identity. But I would, if I were him, be worried that some railroad official or inspector would happen along that day and recognize him. And I just read that a grave at a mine near Goodsprings, Nevada was dug up (is that where the Johnnie Mine is?) but DNA showed the deceased was not a match with any living Parker relatives. So maybe you're right.
