The bird turned out beautifully! Very well done :) *Edit: Our YInTiCo Red indeed contains the pigment PR298 (Red 10k333)!

Thank you so much! I wonder what is the pigment PR298 that is also made from Yttrium, Indium, Titanium and Cobalt?

@@LanaGoesArt I am trying to find out more information about the pigment. I briefly talked with our lab before about the pigment used in YInTiCo Red. I was told that our tubes are always labeled with the used pigments index number. If this is not the case, then the pigment is most likely too new and does not yet have an index number. :)

Indeed as thorough as one can be! I loved listening and watching, learning your experiences with this color. Also I still feel thrilled that *a few of us where the very first* to paint with this very new pigment. We nerd indeed about extinct pigments but I also feel a joy for brand new pigments, even if they are not this or that... but as nerds and collectors we want to try them! Just as we want to try pigments that don't exist anymore. Lovely painting, Lana. I love how your brush moves with such ease on the paper. And how great to mention my first experience with the color. Thank you.

Thank you so much! Thanks also for letting me use your mixing experiment to show, that it's possible to mix a hue with such ease. I too love the excitement we share about new pigments and colors and how exciting it feels to use them and play and test and to share the knowledge!

i've been debating whether i should get this since i've been waiting for more granulating pinks. after watching this though, i don't think it's worth it. thank you so much for a thorough review Lana! XD

I can totally see this as a reasonable decision. Especially as a hue is mixed so easily and is probably higher in tinting strenght.

really? I think it looks awful! The art was so well done it didn't affect it so much, but the swatch looked like my cheapest paper when it starts to pil. My cheapest paper/ paint look exactly like that wash swatch... grainy and like the paper is balling up. Usually I wait till that dry and sand it off if its so bad! Bird was amazing though.
@LanaGoesArt
@LanaGoesArt Жыл бұрын
@@tisaloewen7051 I get that feeling. The wash swatch was made from the tube and it was a bit difficult to get a nice swatch, which I mentioned in the video. But then swatched from the pan, it looks different, which I've shown in other swatches. The "bad" look is because it was a thin wash with granulation. That might look like "cheapest paper" maybe. All swatches were made on 100% cotton watercolor paper.

@@LanaGoesArt I think its also okay to say that sometimes successful look on any paper, with any paint, is from the artist. In other words, you have talent and can take material that looks one way when on its own, and paint a bird, landscape, etc that excels regardless of the materials. If I use a delicate paint, or cheap paper, maybe it won't look so nice but a good artist can turn that into something new. No offense to Schmincke but the strength in this piece is all you!

@@tisaloewen7051 That's very kind of you to say and I agree. A skilled artist can do great with even not great supplies (like most "cheap art supply challenges" show). But in this case I can assure you the following swatches were better as you can see in the mixing chart etc and the painting itself. :) It behaves like Cobalt Violet does for me.

I really love this new colors, YInMn blue and YInTiCo red. They're beautiful and also they granulate beautiful and I love granulation so much. I've done some internet research and PR298 is indeed the pigment number for YInTiCo red (PB86 for YInMn blue). It is mainly used at the moment to color plastics and the pigment can't be bought anywhere at the moment. So there is no way at getting handmade paints but hopefully there will be in the future as it is with the YInMn blue. I also hope that both pigments get cheaper in the future because YInMn blue is one if my absolute favorite blues but because it's so expensive i use it very rarely and only on special occasions.

Hi! Thanks for the comment and the insights. I too thought that PR298 is the pigment number and I actually contacted Schmincke about it, but they did not confirm it. So I was careful to use it in the video. According to the patent papers the pigment is also used to stain glass, which sounds pretty cool. It says that there aren't many cool reds that are usable for it and I'm actually curious how it will look in glass. I agree, the granulation is great. I do like it in YInMn more though, maybe because it's higher in tinting strenght. As for the handmade paints: my friend Dirty Blue Shop has had a small batch of YInTiCo made for him and plans to at least attempt making it into paint. He has a channel too and I linked it in the description box. As for the price, I too hope they'll become cheaper. But considering that the pigments are made from rare minerals, they might still be on the rather expensive side of pigments. I'm glad you're enjoying your paints. It's ok to use them on special occasions only (I do that too) ;) Have a great day!

Hello and good morning! Thank you so much! I really can't say if it will become widely available. I guess, we'll have to see. :) As mentioned in the video, you can mix a pretty convincing hue from Potters Pink and Quin Magenta.

I swear KZbin reads my mind; I just came across my tube of YinTiCo which I never poured in a palette and thus never really used!. I love the hue but was also disappointed by the low tinting strength.

Hehe, sometimes it knows better what we want than we do ourselves! I'm sorry you feel disappointed. I did too, but some pigments just are what they are. It's nice in a soft palette, but it's not the most versatile to use for most. I haven't used it much since the video tbh. because of the low tinting strenght too.

@@LanaGoesArt I feel inspired to pour it now especially since you showed that it may work better when panned! I was a little worried it might go rock hard like the YinMin Blue. Which reminds me, I really need to use my pan of that too :)

@@jennw6809 Now you made me curious. I know about the YinMn problem, Oto Kano had the same problem with hers. But I have a handmade one, which works wonderfully even after a year of no use in the pan. It's really tricky. I just tried my YinTiCo, which I haven't used in over 6 months and it was completely dry. It rewetted nicely and I got a good pigment load from first try with only little time to rewet. I used a slightly stiffer brush though. I feel now confident, that it's safe to keep YinTiCo in a pan. :)
