Even with the older chip, the UI is far smoother, more responsive and jank-free compared to the Galaxy Watch 4/5/. I wasn't sure I'd keep the Pixel Watch (free gift with the Pixel 7 Pro) because I just upgraded form a Galaxy Watch 4 Classic to the Watch 5 Pro, but, after seeing the beautiful UI, the fluidity and the general responsiveness, I might actually keep it. If it does well, I'll just sell the Wacth 5 Pro in a few weeks.

I probably would not sell the Watch 5 Pro because the battery life is much better on the 5 Pro and also there are sensors lacking. Also Tizen and WearOS is such a great combo. Still debating on getting the LTE.

It looks like a great first-gen smartwatch. If they improve three things, Google has a winner: first, introduce a larger model, remove the paywall, and try to increase the battery to last 50% more than the current watch.

I think the most obvious comparison watches would be the Galaxy Watch 5 40mm (size,) the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro (price,) and the Apple Watch Series 8 (cross platform.)

The Garmin Venue series is kind of this watch’s competition. I think the UI is better on the Pixel & app selection too. But after that it seems like a landslide for Garmin: GPS accuracy, much better battery life, no subscription, durability, standard watch bands, etc. I think it would be an interesting comparison test. There’s always the latest Samsung & similarly priced Apple Watch too

Hard pass for me, don't love the shirt battery life on a lot of these. Loved my old Fitbit Versa, lasted 4 years, but very disappointed with the direction they're going now. Finally accepted the writing on the wall. Can't wait for my Garmin to get here soon!

Wow the battery life is kind of a deal breaker. Seems like it may not make it through a full day of fairly heavy use. A watch where I have to wonder if it will make it through the day is no good to me. Also, Google might have QC problems? I'm so surprised....

I bought the Apple Watch ultra and I absolutely love it. It’s a very tough watch and it charges very quickly! The faces are also very sharp and are easy to see in the sunlight.

Whats the battery life when recording GPS activities? I have a Garmin Vivoactive which lasts 5/6 days when just used as a watch, but GPS recording over 7/8 hours will kill the battery. With the pixel watch only having a 1 day battery life should I expect much shorter while recording activities?

I have the Fitbit sense and I've never seen GPS drift the waiting for connection feature has been part of every Fitbit with GPS, blaze/iconic/Sence. I have seen the lag with the heart rate monitor but only when not wearing it every day. I use a Fitbit charge for clients when doing HiiT sometimes it takes up to 10 minutes to get used to that client I have never seen the lag on my own sense or on clients who have a personal Fitbit.

I've been patiently waiting a long time for this watch to come out. I am so on the fence about this watch as I can't justify the hefty price of this watch and the very short battery life plus with the Fitbit premium. Not sure why they didn't incorporate google fit instead which I was hoping to use with this watch.

I'd like to see how this compares to the Fitbit Sense 2 and the Garmin Venue 2 Plus. Mainly, are all the tracking features (sleep, heart rate, oxygen, etc) actually usable? From this it looks like at least GPS and Heart Rate might be. Also how is the real-world battery usage? I'd want to do sleep tracking, but how does that work if best case is only 24 hours of battery life? Seems like it would have to be charged 1-2 times every day.

See the thing about the bezels that annoys me is that it has a rounded glass edge which is hard to protect and prone to damage, but it's not even a sacrifice made in service of making the screen extend over the curve. Kinda the worst of both worlds.

Agreed. I've scratched up my first fitbit and have to constantly wear cases with my newer ones. This watch looks even more scratch prone with the domed shape. I can definitely see myself knocking it about if I bought one. With the thick bezel is a waste to have them when it's not going to protect the screen.

Very tempting, I got a Fitbit versa 3 this year and it's been great not helping me stick to targets though it would be nice if it had more functionality so I wouldn't need to always keep my phone on me. HI this was a very good review. I do think people should get over how long the battery last. All things eventually need to be recharged. Also you mentioned protection for the glass. I believe you can get a soft film to put over the face of the watch. There is also a case to protect it that snaps on over it for less than $30. Will not mention the vendor. There is always pro and cons for all items. We all hope the 2nd gen. will answer all issues.

I think you're forgetting something Mike, Google acquired Fitbit so they could have a run in the Smartwatch game however the reason why it's so Snappy and it's so decent is because it's using Google's new wear OS which was co-developed by Samsung. As far as the fitness is going to be concerned of course it's going to be a lot better than you thought it was as Google's fitness apps were terrible before and thus they also partially adapted Samsungs. So of course this watch is going to be decent

My initial gripe with it's design renders was, how am I gonna use all my watchbands I've collected of time with the universal pin mechanism? Other than that I've been excited for this watch for sure. I always like the simplicity of Google products.

The battery life is a no-go. Especially with the Fitbit features baked in. To add insult to injury, there’s no quick charging. People gravitate to Fitbit for the sleep tracking capabilities (& they are the best in the industry) & general health metrics, but the battery life & slow charging make this watch feel half baked.

I really wish Fitbit/Google would allow you to have more than one watch on an account. Many people like myself are moving over from a Versa or Sense because we like our Fitbits but wish they had smartwatch capabilities. If I could keep my Sense at night for sleep tracking and charge my Pixel, that would eliminate the battery issues for a lot of people. And others could still purchase the cheaper Fitbits just for sleep tracking as well. It's obviously not an ideal fix, but I'm sure some people would like that. Not to mention, I wouldn't mind being able to have a second watch that I don't care about getting marked up during rough activities. I just don't get why they wouldn't let you spend more money on a second watch if you wanted to.

I am on watch 5 Pro and GT2 PRO. I love both and wear them to compare my statistics. I must say they complete one another. With the samsung I get 3.5 days batteries but a lot of functionality. From huawei I manage to reach at least 14 days if not even more. I am a huge fun of track back option of GT2 PRO and I love watch 5 PRO for the easy access to maps, navigation on route especially on komoot and google maps. Since using them both my life is so much easier on hiking trips and I love to exercise even more than before...

i know people complain this has the older exynos 9110 from 2018, but that chip is somehow cooler and more efficient than the newer exynos w920. I have a galaxy watch active 2 with the exynos 9110 and it also works great with tizen. Not as smooth as the pixel watch, but not that far off and clearly not as laggy and HOT as the exynos w920 galaxy watch 4/5.

Compare it with the Venu 2 plus. The accessibility of this watch looks great, Samsung probably has the best. Garmin has it bad but I don't mind it because I use it mainly for fitness. 7 day battery, reliable heart rate, gps and the smart exercise modes put Garmin way ahead. But would be nice to have multiple screens horizontally.

Thanks for the review. I just received my watch today and I love it but I was hoping there would be a way to disable continuous measuring of heart rate to save battery. I also do not see a way to download Gmail onto the watch which I thought was a feature.

On the Pixel watch, I'm still able to use Google Fit along with other 3rd party apps that talk with Fit. Widgets, tiles, all that work with Fit on the pixel watch still. All of the long term tracking I want, without touching Fitbit or its premium service. Now if only you could completely disable system apps on wear OS like you can on Android :D

Does the watch do multi-sport? Can it automatically transition between brick workouts like Swim-to-Bike, or Bike-to-Run, or a track a full tri and also keep track of time in transition areas? Or do you have to end a workout and begin a whole new workout type (eg. swim/bike/run) mid race for each transition?

Can anyone confirm if this has the option to only receive notifications when the phone screen is off like Galaxy watches do? Other wearos devices don't have the option to only receive notifications with the phone locked and I hate getting notifications when I'm actively using the phone.
