Same, expect nothing less from Michael, he is a top knotch reviewer. As for this watch, I feel like a broken tape recorder, small bezels and definitely longer battery life. I dont think anything has beaten my original Amazfit Bip which had 30+ day battery life and then upgraded to the Amazfit Bip S. The Bip S battery life wasnt any better or near as good but for me easy 20 days on a single charge.

It's honestly incredible how nothing has come close design wise to the VERY first android wear watch ever, The Moto 360. Had 0 bezel and looked stunning. That flat tire that was so maligned back then looks minuscule compared to the bezels we're getting today. What happened?

I have been pleasantly surprised with the battery life, performance, and utility of the first gen pixel watch. I've always carried two phones so I've been using my Apple watch for last 5 years and usually upgrade every 2 years. This kind of just plugged right in and I really felt at home and I use my pixel a lot more to leave my iPhone at home. Looking forward to that pixel tablet though. Enjoying the pixel ecosystem.

You enjoy having a half baked ecosystem that will likely fall apart once Google inevitably moves on and kills the various teams supporting this ecosystem outside of the Pixel? I have been so impressed with the Pixel watch. Coming from a Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, I have to say: this is absolutely better. App notifications are more reliable, the watch itself feels more refined and incredibly comfortable. Swapping out the bands feels intuitive. Even the battery life, which I expected to be horrendous, is at least good enough to get me through a full day from sunup to sundown. I wish it was a little bigger... But aside from that, this is a really terrific first-generation product.

Of all the reviews I've watched on the Pixel Watch, yours is the only one that mentioned the lefty versatility (that's me) and I'm reorienting it as soon as I'm finished writing this. I think Google will incorporate fixes through software updates as it goes along. I just got mine a few days ago. Bought it off a guy who bought it and used it for only a couple days before getting the new samsung watch 5 pro. it was pristine condition and looked brand new, guess he was the kind of guy who actually cares for his products like I do, but he sold it to me for $280 which was great. The only reason I got it is because my Galaxy watch 4 classic sucks when connected to my pixel 7. But all in all I love the pixel watch. I had an apple watch before and the pixel watch reminds me a lot of the apple watch in both design (minus the fact pixel is circle and apple is square) and the user experience, except the pixel watch has better watch face options as all android watches do. Also as far as battery usage, I use AOD cause well, AOD doesn't drain that much battery as people think, and I have it connected with LTE and I get an entire day with the watch on. I know most people want it to last over night too, but I'm not the kind of person that likes to sleep with any jewelry or accessories on my body so it's fine for me to just place it on the charger at night. The ONLY problem I have with the pixel watch is AOD doesn't work that well with 3rd party watch faces. After a few minutes the screen turns off defeating the point of having AOD on, but the stock watch faces stay on all the time so there's that. Sound quality... I like it. Only time I'll use the watch to take phones calls is if I'm driving and don't wanna pull out my phone and I think the sound is good for it's size, not the best, but it's good. Honestly though I hope the pixel watch 2 has a bigger design so we'll get more battery life, and while I do like how the watch looks, I hope they reduce the bezel and bring the metal part of the watch higher, because if you get one you'll want to get some sort of case to protect it because once that metal ends and the black part begind which is 50% of the watch...it's all glass. I got the spigen case for mine.

I wanted to get one at launch but the reviews and price did put me off abit. I finally got one brand new from ebay for £176 which is a good price. It doesn't feel as small as people say. This looks like a step in the right direction. My smart watch journey was Pebble, to Samsung Gear S3 to Garmin Fenix 5X (still have all 3). After being on Garmin for the last 3 years as a runner and exercise junkie, I don't think I can go back to watches that have to be charged every 24 hrs. Honestly I'd say the best way for them to go that long is to tap Mobvoi and copy the design of the Ticwatch pro 3 ultra. of all the reviews this is the one I've been waiting for! I got the bluetooth version and despite it's little foibles and small size I find that I absolutely love the watch and have about 25-35% on the battery left after 24 hours (on the lower side if I track some exercise during the day), so I have got used to popping it the charger during my shower/breakfast etc. Going back to my Galaxy Watch 4 classic or Ticwatch Pro 3 Ultra I find myself conflicted by enjoyong the extra screen space and the software experience on the Galaxy but now feeling that the watches are uncomfortable, especially the Watch 4 Classic where the stiffness of the band makes it stand out from my wrist and look vastly oversized. So all in all the Pixel is a very comfortable, great looking watch with good features, a few misses and an unfortunately hefty price tag!
@hobbitpsi2 жыл бұрын
Dude I know exactly what you mean. for the Galaxy watch 4 classic I went through so many bands before I found one that was comfortable and for the Ticwatch 3 pro ultra, I don't know what it was but the bottom of the watch when against my wrist, made my skin itch and flare up. I don't know what kind of plastic they used on the bottom of the watch, but it irritated my skin something fierce, which sucked because when it came to battery life the Ticwatch was second to none lasting me 3-4 days.

It's more of a circular Fitbit with Wear OS than a circular Apple Watch. If you put it side by side with a Sense, it's very noticeable. Thanks for not complaining about the recent apps button or taking off and on the bands which are both so exaggerated by those that have. The battery life is fine, with the right settings. If you have AOD off, turn twist-to-wake on. If you have AOD on, turn twist-to-wake off. The good thing is twist-to-wake still works with incoming new notifications. With either settings, the battery life is still very similar. With AOD on, it's an extra loss of only around 0.4%/hour for me, so 4.8% over 12 hours. Lastly, turning off "Hey, Google" helps a lot as well. These are my average battery numbers during my first 15 days: Hours off the charger - 22.36 (and that's with sleep tracking and a 1 hour workout) Battery remain before charging - 22.13% Total hourly drain - 3.45%/hour Screen always-on ON drain - 4.45%/hour Screen always-on OFF drain - 3.96%/hour Sleeping tracking - 2.10%/hour drain. Estimated of total time off the charger - 29.08 hours

Still generally unimpressed with the big smart watch offerings. I rocked a Moto 360 3rd Gen for about a year and a half and I could never make it last long enough to really use it frequently, or get all the features it offered. Nice watch, but the battery remained a huge problem. I recently bought an Amazfit T-Rex 2 and, while it isn't as smoothly integrated as Wear OS offerings, it does everything I want it to and lasts for a literal week or more with no charging. For the life of me I can't figure out why the mainstream watch models can't squeeze more battery life out of more efficient and advanced chips. Smart watches are so so cool. But they just aren't there yet.

But fitness accuracy is crap. As a fitness watch the best out there for Android is the new huawei 3 series. Seems Apple are still the only snartwatch watch to have everything. Accurate fitness and apps. With android, it's either amazing tracking like the huawei 3 series or not so accurate for fitness, like samsung, ticwatch, pixel, etc, but good for apps, but still not a patch on apple. The thing that stops me buying other android snart phones are poor battery life and less accurate gps and tracking. With android alternatives seems no choice, either go for apps or go for accuracy, but dont have both. Have had the galaxy 5, and got rid of it, as I wanted best tracking accuracy and after reading reviews on the huawei 3, ended up with the gt3 pro, and it certianly has the best fitness tracking accuracy, and almost up there with apple

It's perfect for endurance athletes, most of my fellow runners have Garmins. Smartwatches? To me they're a bit of a novelty - something for people with extra money to spend on stuff that might impress someone else for all of 10 seconds. All things great to utterly brilliant storyteller, Mr. Mobile. With that said, I would be hesitant to say that outside of Android, Google cares about anything mobile. Yeah it'll throw its money at it, sure, but look at all the wildly inconsistent offerings it has provided in the smartphone space, particularly with the Pixel. Yeah that seems to have changed a bit over the past two years, but no company throws more crap at the wall than, and no crap sticks less than thrown by, Google. I hope that changes. I REALLY hope that changes. But I have no reason to believe that consistency, which is so important in the mobile hardware, in addition to software, space is something that Google cares about.

With how I've gotten used to the battery life on that watch with it's kind of cheating but not really "always on display", I wouldn't be able to accept the poor battery on this kind of a device.

that's honestly the perfect solution, while expensive it should be possible on premium watches too

Haven't see this before, really so clever! While I'm still more an epaper fan, that everything gets the long battery life, at very least you want your watch to tell time for a while. 13 hours on the pixel... Woof.

Im confused, other then some reliability fixes and sensor tech, how is this different (or better) from other wearOS watches out right now?
@7techno772 жыл бұрын
I returned mine. Definitely was snappy but battery life was too bad. If I didn't use it for sleep tracking it may have been ok. Gonna stick with my Fitbit sense 1st gen. 3-4 day battery life with Google assistant. Though definitely very basic. Sacrifices are worth it for tracking features and battery life. No more charging anxiety either when 25% lasts me a day.

I just bought an open box Galaxy Watch 4 on eBay for $90, for the most part it seems like it does all the same stuff for what I need. I find it hard to justify spending so much on a smartwatch somehow!

The battery life of many newer smartwatches are the biggest reason I still rock my Galaxy Watch Classic. I only use it for notifications, music control and the time, and even then the battery lasts 6 days to a whopping 8 days for me. And not to mention the rotating ring around the display, after trying too many newer smart watches, nothing can replace my Galaxy Watch Classic.

I use a Galaxy Active 2, still going strong, but my Pebble Time Steel is still in the inner pouch of my backpack, ready and configured. I think to this day as far as notifications go Pebble had nailed it perfectly in the Time series and nobody even comes close. I would consider a Pixel watch if it came with standard 20 or 22mm bands, so I can use my own I've been using for over a decade, if it lasted about 3-4 days like my GWA2 (the Pebble still does 8-9 days easily), if it had a better protected front glass (my Active 2 is also chipped on one side, but it's barely visible, and the Pebble needs a good glass polishing, it's covered in scratches at the moment, but as it's not touch sensitive, you can just polish down the glass). I'm also hesitant about Wear OS, I've been burned before with Fossil.

So you need to buy the google leather band to attach third party watch bands via a 20mm spring bar.. I want to attach my Spidel so this seems like it could work..

Thanks for this ReWatch of your review Michael - strikes me perhaps this could be made into a CommBadge at sometime in the future, where it's size could work in it's favor, even if it would need a different speaker set up - any takers? And just to prove some of us listen: I'm just coming to the end of my first 27month deal with SurfShark, courtesy of a link from MrMobile himself, and have renewed to 2025! Hope you get some commy off repeats? 😉

Great review! My only issue with mine is when you rotate your watch to check time/notifications. Don't always come on. I even touch the face to turn it on and it never did come on. I had to slowly rotate back and forth to get it to come on. Don't know why??

This might sound like a stupid question but the LTE version - the eSIM, isn't that just a version of the SIM on your phone? Like if you get a call or text on your mobile then it will show on the watch even if your mobile is at home. Or, going by what it sounds like MrMobile says, you need to pay for the eSIM in addition to your mobile SIM?
@TheMrMobile2 жыл бұрын
You pay for the eSIM but it's much less than a full line on your account ($5-$10 per month, depending on how much data you select). The watch has its own phone number but the carrier does some magic virtual-number management to make it ring when people dial your own number.
@bowtoy2 жыл бұрын
Requires a separate line of service/phone number on Verizon, I can call the watch from my phone. and as I said in the main comments you can spin charge the pixel Watch, kzbin.infoGqEASB-06h4 right on the back of your phone, it actually works...

The reason why you're watch face may look like it's off-centered is because of the fact that when your watch goes into always on display mode it actually shifts the pixels in any direction to prevent screen burn in so it will look a little off-centered until you bring your watch back to active mode and you will see it flip back to the center of it's screen
@TheMrMobile2 жыл бұрын
That's what I thought at first but take a look at the video; it's off-center while active. Like, in a big way.
@chuckrichardson832 жыл бұрын
@MrMobile [Michael Fisher] I will double check the video as I do know that Google's wear is still the only operating system that shifts your pixels in always on display which I haven't seen since the old Motorola 360 days in fact my fossil Gen 6 does this and it's always on display.... but yeah I'll definitely go back and watch this I watched it while you were doing it live so I didn't bother to rewind it because I enjoy listening to your reviews
@chuckrichardson832 жыл бұрын
@MrMobile [Michael Fisher] wow you know what you're right it definitely looks like it's a little bit too far over to the right I screenshotted and zoomed in and it definitely looks like you've got a larger bezel on the left side than you do the right side and yes it isn't in it's always on display... wow Google. Perhaps they should have worn their Google Glasses while they were making their Google watch 🤣 I hope that was just on your pre-production model because how do you make a mistake like that?

I very much agree with you about the built-in speaker on the watch. I was taking a phone call on my pixel watch because I couldn't get to my Pixel 7 Pro in time. And, sure it was tinny... which I just kind of put up with - but then as the call continued, my co worker suddenly started sounding like the Imperial Probe from the beginning of Star Wars V - to which I just gave up and switched to a conference call in my PC. And battery life was definitely noticeable. I can get about a day or so out of my Series 7. Not even close with the Pixel Watch. Luckily I’m testing it for my Podcast channel, so I have no plans on keeping it. Would, equally, agree that waiting for the next Gen Pixel Watch is the better choice. It shouldn’t be a surprise, though. 1st gen anything’s are never really the safest bet. Whether that’s mobile tech or even something a bigger scale like cars…. As they often have issues with the engine, transmission… etc. The Pixel Watch has a lot of potential as you stated, and it’s still awaited to be seen as we look on to future generations of this wearable.

It does surprise me, why many of these watch makers shy away from TFT displays. It may be that the colours on display aren't as vivid, but still, a TFT display can manage "always on" with ease due to its low power consumption. And like you, I can't stand having a watch that has no display. I've never experienced 100% reliability on the "activate on wrist lift" that is supposed to circumvent this display issue. And TFT displays don't have to fight against bright sunny days, they relish them. The brighter the day, the brighter the display. The TFT display on the Pebble was one of the reasons I liked the watch so much. It is a shame that the manufacturing standard was so low. I had 1 basic Pebble, and 2 Pebble Steels die due to screen failures. I now wear a Gamin, which hosts a TFT display. If a picked a boring enough looking display, and didn't use many of the tracking functions, it would most likely last a week on a single charge, but I just plug it in for a charge for a about 15 minutes whilst showering etc. and its back to ¾ charge ready for sleep tracking and the next day's activity tracking. And all because of an efficient display. I wouldn't even look at a Pixel watch, at least not while it has that battery draining AMOLED (?) display. And as for paying a subscription for activity tracking. Bah! That's what the App on the phone is supposed to process and store. What a rip off!
