We've mentioned before that fecal smearing (or faecal smearing for those of you in the UK like us) is an ongoing issue with Andy - we've got a new plan to try and stop him from smearing, but he doesn't like it... Also, a run of good news leaves us feeling more positive than we have for a long time.

I also watch fatheringautism on youtube. They put their daughter in a back to front onesie with a hoodie or back to front jacket on top to stop her from fecal smearing at night time, perhaps something similar for andy? Cant wait to see your house get tidied up, that window sill annoys me haha 😂

+Lewis Hay yeah, I’ve seen that. He doesn’t do it at night time - it’s during the day. We’ve tried not letting him in his room during the day, but then he gets too overwhelmed with not having anywhere private to escape to. But as soon as he’s in private, his hand goes in his trousers. It’s difficult trying to find a balance

My nephew didn't like sitting on the toilet normally - turns out the hanging feet thing was part of the issue - a little footstool to rest his feet on made some difference.

Is he able to clean stuff, maybe with some help from you or his mom? If so, that's a logical consequence - and maybe not being able to selfsoothe by going into his room for a set amount of time (so long as he has alternative ways to soothe himself, like watching videos in the living room or using the DS or whatever) Maybe have a points chart where he can get a prize for every day he doesn't smear? When I was in gradeschool, one school I went to did points for different things kids were having problems with. For me it was fighting. For other kids, it was stuff like chair throwing or coming in after recess, and I remember one kid got points for cleaning up. We'd win prizes like special pencils or being able to cook and eat food in class.
@kevinchapmanvlog
@kevinchapmanvlog 6 жыл бұрын
+Leer Wesen he can’t really do any cleaning or anything. We’ve tried points charts before and they’re a bit too abstract for him. An immediate reward for good behaviour usually works

Hey Kev, I've been a subscriber here for a year or so now. My girlfriend is primary school teacher and is looking at writing a book for SEN students, I was wondering if you could possibly do a video sometime about the process you undertook whilst writing your book. Cheers mate.

I have tried everything from every video on KZbin, vlog, products bought and home made. I am at my wits end! I am half tempted (sarcasm) to just waterproof walls, ceiling, floor with a big drain with a hose at the ready. Medical professionals say try letting him play with poop smelling play dough, strong smelling cheese, peanut butter, shaving cream. Others say it will go away on its own. Its been 7 years! Regular bathroom breaks. I have an alarm set every 3 hours at night which I get up to check on him. He still manages to get into his diaper! I'm sleep deprived. I've spent 100s maybe a 1000 dollars on anti strip clothing, vests, and overalls. Nothing works. I literally would pay some scientist 5 grand to make me one single outfit to stop this! Venting this morning, after sitting at the bedroom camera with 3 hours of sleep waiting for hime to wake up i dozed off for half an hour and woke up to another mess!

Kudos to you Kevin! Anna is so lucky to have found a man to care for and love her autistic son the way you do. Sadly a lot of men, or women, wouldn't want that burden. You are such a good daddy to Andy. I was shocked when I found out he wasn't your biological child.
