Congrats on the new planter! We just got rid of our JD1760 12 row about 2 years ago and now we have one step up, a JD1765. It just has bigger boxes and no pesticides box. Just a single bigger box for seeds.

Ritchie's was the implement that my dad worked at for almost 20 years. Unfortunately, he passed away this past Sunday but I know for a fact that they are always a great place to do business with.

A 4640 is an EXCELLENT planting tractor. We ran our 12 row 7200 on ours. Now we run a 1770NT 16 row.

Like I said yesterday Travis' reaction was a classic. You need to save it and replay it when he is more convinced. Ole Dad just had some money that was burning his pocket because of his desire to buy a tractor. Best thing is that he didn't spend nearly as much money and you guys have a new toy that is twice the size of the old planter. What's wrong with getting a wider disk for the 82? I'm sure it will pull it. Have a great day and here we come 12 row planting for the first time ever on your farms. :)
@benl10538 жыл бұрын
We have a 1760 8 row planter and it works really good I hope you guys like yours we still pull our planter behind a 1980 4040 open station lol
@howardyounger54568 жыл бұрын
I looks like your dad likes your 4640 .I agree with him ,I have a 4630 that I bought over 20 years ago it is still going strong . but my first tractor I bought 4010 is my favorite. when i was just a little younger than you we planted with a 4 row planter and a 720 tractor . My dad still has the 720 he uses it for his garden.

Nice buy guys. Looks like a real nice planter. Hope everything works out well for it. Looks like you guys will need to get that other 82xxR and another disk to keep the old man busy haha. That's not a bad problem to have, just means you guys are doing something right to update equipment.

sure beats our old 2row that we use! We only plant a few acres of organic corn a year for the cattle we raise for our own freezers.
@douglaslaramie92458 жыл бұрын
Heard your dad mention new bean cups. Bean brush meters are very popular up here. I found they singulate the seed better and they drop different size seed at a constant population.The price may not justify the cost and oversized rogue seeds can build up and get trapped in the meter. A real pain. Nice planter, looks like new. Keep her out of the rhubarb boys. Let's plant.
@joels53948 жыл бұрын
for sure. you don't want cups. kinze brush meter should work also & are better than Deere's.

Nice planter Ryan. It should really help with your shorter plating windows where you live. I heard dad let it slip that he is looking at a red combine in the future. Say it ain't so! Just kidding. All the equipment out there is pretty good now you just have to have a dealer to support you.
@lukebaumgartner17478 жыл бұрын
Great investment! Will save you a lot of time. Though I have one question for you, why didn't you get a 12 row with a bulk hopper? My uncle 2 years ago went from a 6 row John Deere, to a 12 row Early Riser Case IH. It has a bulk hopper that feeds smaller hoppers on each row unit using air. This saves him a lot of time as all he has to do is load one hopper instead of 12, which means less time filling the planter and more time in the field. Just something to think about.
@dillonodom298 жыл бұрын
look into precision planting e-set liners go right in the John Deere meters narrows down the skips and doubles almost at 100 percent singulation it works really good
@dawsoncarlgren6308 жыл бұрын
Really consider going red with your next combine, we run 3 and they are great. Look into a 2388 or a 2588. They are great machines!
@farmingforfunandprofit9408 жыл бұрын
Basically the Gps is for controlling the planters.....We have a sprayer that uses Gps to controll the boom sections the one on the planter tractor controls the steering---Row markers were removed.....Make the turn push the button and it will take you to the other end of the field......Signal control hooks into the steering hydralics records pass so it can follow same line in the future You have to have a contract with a satelite company

you need a set of suitcase weights on the front of the 46 looked a little light when you was pulling the 12 row in the shop.
@Mopar-Pioneer8 жыл бұрын
Dumb question time Jaime, but how many acres do you plant to corn to make a 12 row worth while? As for cultivating, much better with a 4 row behind a team of horses like I used to do with my uncle. Keep up the good work mate you are the nearest thing to farm work that I have a the moment.

Pretty good looking unit. My only question is the oddness of the time of the season your Dad, the new "How Farms Work" star, chose to add the planter. Maybe the only way Dad could slow down the addition of a new 8000 series Deere?
@HowFarmsWork8 жыл бұрын
+Bill Whitman We only had about 150 of 1100 done at this point, so it wasn't too late.
@robertreznik93308 жыл бұрын
By the date it arrived, I think you were gambling big time to plant 950 acres on time with a 6 row planter. Did I hear that it cost $16,000+$1,600 to get some good odds that it will be in on time.

Just a question: Have you really fitted the old 4640 with starfire??7 Is that Starfire moveable to your 8235r?? Because normally you have to order new tractors with prewiring for the GPS System.

Won't be able to make the short 90 degree turns while planting, like I've seen done with the 6 row in some videos. If you turn that short, the inside units will be moving backwards.
@mataiterapreha8 жыл бұрын
depends what the demand for a planter like that is in there area, they could end up storing it for a year or 2 before getting a good price for it.

why didnt you put it on the 8r so you can have autosteer? then you could disc and chisel with gps
@HowFarmsWork8 жыл бұрын
+ilovecowsdude We can't disk chisel and plant all with the same tractor
@robertreznik93308 жыл бұрын
+How Farms Work In the western Great Plains we use row cleaners like Sunco tiger paw so we just plant between last years rows. We use a coulter & knife in early spring to put fertilizer and make path for planter. GPS makes this possible. If we get a big rain the stubble holds the rain on the field for less erosion. We are planting now in 300 bu/ac stubble and the planter is doing a great job without all that work. I think your Soybeans would make a great yield no till. With all your point rows, row clutches would help double planting for yield and save some of that $300/bag seed.
@kentuckyfarmer11298 жыл бұрын
How many acres of corn you guys have in ground
@muddysprings97468 жыл бұрын
I wonder that to
@aarr448 жыл бұрын
If you have GPS now , you don't need the disk markers any more do you. ?
@lukebaumgartner17478 жыл бұрын
GPS isn't enough to remove markers. You need auto steer then. GPS allows you to track your progress, and like they are using, row clutches.
@aarr448 жыл бұрын
+Luke Baumgartner ok I just assumed you would do auto steer too , I love mine and for a few $$ more why not
@lukebaumgartner17478 жыл бұрын
Allan Riseley Yeah. My uncle has GPS with his 12 row case ih early riser, but no autosteer yet. Though he wouldn't even need one haha, he plants so perfectly we joke about it being too hard to find a place to cut down the middle of the field when we harvest.
@jeremyfreeman61088 жыл бұрын
is that your old planter they have listed for 9900 Thought they gave u 16000
@57fitter8 жыл бұрын
+Jeremy Freeman It's just like car dealers. What they allow and what it's worth are not always the same. They'll allow somebody buying that six row 3500 for a lesser planter that's REALLY worth 1500, etcetera.
@GlennBeebe7 жыл бұрын
What are the 'extension arms' for on the planter?
@HowFarmsWork7 жыл бұрын
They're for marking the next pass. Line up the center of the tractor with the marked row and you have good spacing.
