She looks good behind that 4640 Ryan. I think your dad is going to be happy with his choice of planters. The individual row shut offs are probably save you guys more than it will most farmers due to the amount of point rows you have to deal with farming on the contours. Keep them planting videos coming.
@robertreznik93308 жыл бұрын
The savings in extra yield will be more than the seed saved. Your overlap has ears size down to below 2/10 lb grain per ear which is too small. A lot of stalks must be ear less at 60,000 plants per acre.

it will be interesting the first year with all the point rows..

Looks like the operator is getting a workout. In my area of Texas under the Amarillo sky, sometimes rounds are 6 miles of auto steer. We bring extra bags of seed along to make it to the wagon. When the wife brings lunch I tell her the end I will be on.

You can put autosteer on your 4640 just get the Autotrac Universal 200 steering kit, it can work with your GS2 and 1800 display. We have one in our windrower and used to have one in one of our four wheel drives. They work awesome and aren't that expensive

Wow, Great Video!!! Thanks for explaining the row markers. I was just wondering because the first thing my Uncle did was take the row markers and trash wippers off. Mainly beacause of mud. Obviously you need row markers because of no auto steer but also you have alot of grass water ways.

There was a young person on this channel that was asking about the 'row marker.' I hope he sees this because it was a great demonstration of it working. I wondered what happens when you get to the edge of the field and only need to plant say 8 rows. Can the planter boxes on the extra rows be turned off individually to keep from planting or dropping the seeds in the grass? Since the planter doesn't seem to fold up the outer 4 rows then it seems that would be an issue. I've seen planters that will pick up and fold the outer rows back over the remaining ones in the middle. This planter does seem to turn around well without having to back up to get back in line. :)
@HowFarmsWork8 жыл бұрын
+jbmbanter it has electric clutches, the rows still run, the seed just doesn't get picked up.
@jbmbanter8 жыл бұрын
How Farms Work Very good because you were talking about seed savings and I knew that somehow that was accomplished without leaving the cab. Ole Dad wouldn't know what to do if you gave him the auto steer. Thanks for the video on the new planter and I watched with interest on how your Dad handled the fields that aren't square or rectangular. :)
@bwtupper8 жыл бұрын
Hi, Ryan . . . I really enjoy your videos! If you put drain tile in the green strips, could you then farm the green strips?
@bluemtnsman8 жыл бұрын
I think I can answer the question you posed,,, the green strips on these farms are meant to slow water runoff and cut down on stream pollution as well as washouts. If they were wet location, which I believe is what you are thinking, then the tile might be an option but a definite non option on their farms.

Now I understand why you benefit the Gps / seeder shut off. You have a lot off overlap at seeding the terrace. Over here we have a lot of square vields. With mostly 1 run with overlap so the benefit is small. at seeding.

I have a question of the wings still using them when you put GPS on the tractors.
@lukebaumgartner17478 жыл бұрын
GPS isn't auto steer. They still need to use markers to guide them on their next pass. GPS for them is to operate the row clutches.
@rogerwilson93618 жыл бұрын
Thank You, I though they had it with their GPS now I know different now, just though said they going use it that's bad excuse me Ryan and Dad and Travis.
@lukebaumgartner17478 жыл бұрын
roger wilson Yup! My uncle also has GPS for his 12 row case planter, and only uses it for row clutches. He most likely is getting auto-steer soon though. He really doesn't need it though haha, he already plants so straight it is hard to go down the middle of the field during harvest on the correct rows!
@rogerwilson93618 жыл бұрын
Luke Baumgrtner Yeah my dad could set a roll so good it always seem he wanted to best me and my brother lol He made look so easy feel man.
@mandykal7 жыл бұрын
Can someone explain that arm that extends out what is that purpose?
@alexrozsahegyi65617 жыл бұрын
jUsT a ViSiToR the arm are so that when he finishes the row when he turns around he can line up the tractor on the middle of the line it creates to have the rows evenly spaced
@mandykal7 жыл бұрын
Alex Rozsahegyi thank you! I'll tell you I've been watching his videos for 3 days... Makes me want to farm...
@kluckfabrication59918 жыл бұрын
Is there really need for row markers when you have gps?
@Kllrkrtt3098 жыл бұрын
Yes, you have to follow it to get the correct row spacing. GPS doesn't steer for you.
@kluckfabrication59918 жыл бұрын
Well your correct but, you don't need the auto steer feature for the GPS alignment to work.. You can use gps to align you in the correct path.
@kluckfabrication59918 жыл бұрын
1lonelyfarmer has a video using the GPS without markers.
@Kllrkrtt3098 жыл бұрын
+Kluck Fabrication yes, but a light bar doesn't work for end rows.
@TJ-bk9vf8 жыл бұрын
if you dont have auto steer with the GPS then yes its much easier to follow a line in a dirt than a line on the monitor screen in my opinion.
@jamesreardon6188 жыл бұрын
At 3:10 what is the thing that comes off the side and what does it do?
@dansneyd46467 жыл бұрын
James R it's a marker that shows you where to drive on your next run. it's exactly half the width of the planter, so as long as you drive straight down the marked line you won't leave a gap or have any over lap. He's only using it on the curved contours, he has sat nav for when he is going up and down in a straight line
@justlooking20138 жыл бұрын
Also you stated that the 46 didn't have auto steer. I saw a couple of time where the row marker were not down...
