What do you think of the lantern shield? It seems like a good shield for those who like to block first and then attack

lantern shield is totally fun and really satisfying to use -- only issue for new players is that it's a pretty small shield and can be hard to position for blocking. the heater shield is so much bigger and more forgiving, and generally much easier to first learn the blocking mechanics :)

@@YourBoyBlinn don’t worry it’s not actually a big deal, I was just being dramatic. I liked the video. You fuckin crazy ass closing chests. 😂 If you’re not gonna take sword mastery or slayer to start, or you intend to learn shield as a beginner, shield mastery is the perk that actually allows you to move fast, block and actually attack after blocking. Counter attack is luxury and a lot more niche for a new player to get value on.

Counterattack sucks. The perk that gives action speed after a block is in every way better. Why make a guide for new players if you yourself are new to the game? 🤨

He's not new to the game. I'd say he's got minimum 500 hours. Although, I do have to agree that it's not the best perk choice for a new player because it relies on having skill with blocking to be useful. I think Sword mastery or Barricade would suit a new player better. More damage will always be helpful and Barricade would mean they get more chances to successfully block while they learn.

Shield Mastery does indeed give 50% action speed after a successful block, it's true! but it can be tricky to time correctly and I didn't think it was the most conducive to the new player experience. IMO Counterattack is just more straightforward to use and demo, plus it also gives a bit of action speed after a successful block as well. hope this help explain my thought process!

@@Rwnds7967 I'm a bit shy to reveal my total hours in the game, but its def over 500 haha ;) and you're totally right, I should have gone with Barricade for the boost to AR, whoops! I didn't use Sword Mastery because my plan was to stick with the mace for most of the PvE clearing. I'll take some extra time to think about my perks recos next time!
