GSC *can* take GK terminators. They just have to play brood brothers and only take guard units so their entire army has the Imperium keyword. 😎

I think the Vindicaire is 150 because it feels bad to have your characters shot. Obviously it's your fault if your characters get shot, but I think GW is thinking of the casual table with this one.

Additionally most other factions already have a sniper unit themselves. They vary by effectiveness depending on how good the army is at shooting, but it’s something they don’t NEED to ally in. Callidus is relatively cheap out of agents because for a lot of imperium armies it’s their only lots of deceit model, and one of their few lone ops so to be honest I think a lot of imperium armies are kind of balanced around it being a viable option to fulfill that niche. I mean base space marines doesn’t even have a singular lord of deceit model, and iirc they only have one even when you include all the non codex chapters, so it seems like they’re designed around kind of being an option.

I cannot keep any Sisters units alive to score secondaries through my opponent's turn. 210 terminators to deep strike and get me 3 VP, potentially surviving and running down the enemy outpost? 210 is a gift!

Codex chapters should get a battleline unit based on the chapter. Like outriders for WS and infernus marines in Salamanders.

Sisters with sticky. Navigator with navy breachers would screen your deployment really well.

Honestly, the idea of Codex Compliant SM getting a minor buff compared to Divergent chapters using them has... POTENTIAL... but it still incentivizes taking a named chapter. Homebrew chapters or any list that doesn't bring chapter-specific stuff like Ventris gets penalized... but I fuess you could still being such units and just rename them. Perhaps something fluffy related to the codex astartes being super-duper tactical or something? Maybe a 6+ chance to get a CP every time the enemy spends a CP, or if you play a strat, but ONLY if your army has no Divergent Chapter units? That would make Calgar less interesting though...

I guess my vindicare will sit for another 3-4 months for the next dataslate. The voidsmen increase is just insulting. They only want you to chase whatever is the "meta" of the cheapest, best chaff soup to take.

Thats not a rug pull, or secret, the allied forces of the book have been stated as being designed as a compensation tool for other Imperium armies to provide toolkit for meta-adjustment tools, so if a season or Imperial Codex is falling behind numbers wise because it needs Deepstrikes, or needs sticky, or needs trash to hold objectives there are options

I think GW squatting Deathwatch is probably the biggest offense with this codex and dare I say, will likely make this codex one of their worst selling books and plastic sets. First of all, the players most likely to play this, *Deathwatch players*, have just been told to kick rocks. They would have been the target audience to buy all these models in the book if they could still use their army with them. Now they can't. I speak for myself on this second point, but to me as a player (I play Tau) for 12+ years, I (and I think many others) would be extremely reluctant to pick up these models or codex because GW just killed Deathwatch armies with the book. Why would I want to get invested and involved with a book that may not exist 2-4 years from now? 🤔🤔 Would love to hear other people's take on that. Final point to make here is that the likelihood of a fresh to 40K player seeing this particular army and deciding to go with it is going to be really slim (in my opinion). This is really a flavor bus codex that is meant for players with large standing collections, or players who want to go down that rabbit hole. And GW has decidedly closed off both avenues before the book even hit the shelf.

Even easier to get the same effect by popping a lone op or auto Dev Wounding a character if they roll a successful wound. Why are you shelving?

My guy they almost 100% thought of the Callidus which is definitely a woman.
