The Chibiness isn't the problem. It's the fact the extreme smoothness paired with the grim colours of the remakes feel very foreign from the colourful pixel art nature of the originals.

I think it's because like, in the 2D games, it was clear that they weren't supposed to look chibi, they were just a birds eye view of the character from the overworld, with some exceptions like some of Gen 4 and 5's unique camera angles due to technological constraints, while here they look so obviously chibi that it's annoying, especially when they move the camera down to full body level as if to illustrate that.

It's also I think the style of chibi. He mentions X/Y/ORAS' style and yeah they are chibi as well, but they're two different types. For XYORAS, they're 3(ish) heads tall (where the whole character is as tall as 3 of their heads) which is still chibi but not as severe (average human is 5-6 heads tall). BDSP (and WOW typing that I realize that is one letter away from something else entirely 0.0, put the slashes in from here on out...) has the 2 heads tall style, were the head is half the body. While it's closer to the original style, it looks off in 3D. I'm of the mind if they polish the models a bit it'll look better yet still keep the 2-head chibi style.

Obviously how the artstyle of a game looks makes a universe of difference to a perspective player of a game. it is what we will be looking at for 100% of the game after all and this style is also coming from a none game freak studio so no wonder it looks different despite all older games really being qualifiable as pixelated chibi top down style as many games were way back in the day. The style will not suit some but i think that many youtubers and people are right to think something very important. This game seems more like a "If you never played the game before ever welcome, play it on your console that you own since you likely don't hav a decade old system laying about." Where as the main series Nintendo/Gamefreak are focusing on maturing the actual franchise to a new area of more open world to match the direction of all the other franchises. I consider at this point BDiamond/SPearl closer to let's go games then remakes at this moment in time due to how it is being used as a gateway drug, im meeean game into the pokemon franchise lol I will be interested to be proven wrong down the line but until then i hold out slight hopes that the franchise is like our starters of yore, finally evolving it just took 25 levels/years to do XD Though that is all a humble Blaziken of short stature's opinion so as with all on the internet please do take every word with a grain of lavaridge sand. Have a good game all and train on.

Meanwhile Empoleon is second best because it’s faster than Torterra and can literally one-shot it with Ice Beam, along with being a very good Pokémon that has access to one of the best defensive types(Steel), super effective stab damage against Fairy’s, and a decent bulk with a very good Special Attack stat, all the while potentially defeating Infernape if its properly prepared with the right set-up. While yes, this technically makes Torterra the worst Sinnoh starter, that’s only because there are only 3 options, with Infernape and Empoleon being the other 2. In comparison to the other Grass-Starters, it actually has a very great defensive bulk and access to moves that counter almost all other Pokémon that it is weak to, including a Ground-stab against all other Fire-type starters (Charizard instead eating a 4x super effective Rock Slide). Honestly, I’m surprised people don’t get that just because a starter is bad in comparison to the others, that doesn’t mean that it is bad in general. Hell, Torterra can still potentially take down Infernape if it’s stats are high enough, since it’s got an incredible bulk.

@@rickyrns1059 assuming both infernape and torterra are the same level with no advantage in nature, ivs, items, or evs (essentially taking away a possible advantage on either side), then torterra lives a flare blitz hit from infernape thanks to its bulk and always OHKOs infernape with earthquake. Instead, to get a one shot, infernape must go with overheat, which can miss and drops his special attack. Infernape is my favorite gen4 starter, but torterra is a close second that I might try to trade over somehow so that I can try to use both. Then again, I want to use garchomp and maybe gliscor as well, and since I play competitive, my brain tells me not to add torterra because that’s 3 physical ground types that are 4x weak to ice haha.
