This will never be raced widely. The Briggs 206 is locked and they have very good parity. These HF engines have neither and therefore would need blueprinted…. And no one wants to go back to the money burning process of blueprinting. The secret sauce to making LO206 racing affordable is the lock on the block. I wouldn’t race this engine if I got 10 for free, it would still be way too expensive.

Nice video, thank you. I’m a new subscriber and totally enjoyed this video. I’ve been involved with kart racing for 34 years now. All 2 stroke engines. I currently have a shifter kart and a grandson interested in getting in a kart. But he definitely does not need to be in my kart. I came across a video last night on the HF 212cc Ghost engine. It peaked my interest. My wife and I discussed this engine over coffee this morning. So old 64 year old Papaw ran his happy butt down to Harbor Freight and grabbed a new 212cc Ghost Engine and the accessories package. Been reading up a little today and then came across your channel this evening. I love the way you unboxed this engine. Honest opinion and no BS. I’m anxious to watch more of your videos. I feel you will help me cut down my learning curve on 4 stroke engines. I sure hope so, because I know nothing about them. I’d like to keep this stock starting out. But I did pick up on your recommendation of replacing the cast iron flywheel from the get go. Kind of curious as to the best oil, spark plug, type of clutch or torque converter that you would recommend if you don’t mind? Any and all information or options would be greatly appreciated. Can’t wait to start through your previous videos that could help me with this Ghost engine. Keep up the great video work. Totally loving your style. God bless.

The reason for classes in karting is for a level playing field. This engine is slightly above base model 212, with a better starting platform for mods, but that's not the role it's made to fill. It's geared toward racing out of the box and it will be a standard format to build more affordable karting leagues around. I'm glad to see it, and hoping that this will open up the kart racing world to more people who cant afford (or don't know about) LO206/Animal/WF racing leagues.
@davidhodge02012 жыл бұрын
That was the idea behind converting to the clone from the Briggs flathead. More affordable. More available, and level (ish) playing field. By the time I got out of kart racing it was over 1000 usd for a good Honda clone that could compete at the top. It has merely replaced the Briggs flathead at this point as far as being super expensive to be competitive (outside of local track amateur classes). Man I miss it but the amount of work that goes into being competitive in kart racing is crazy. Got burned out on it. A race car is cheaper, easier to maintain and from my experience alot less work. Lol.
@outcome271510 ай бұрын
Base 212 in my opinion is better , don’t gotta worry about restriction on mods like flywheels and losing your higher rev limit. The ghost is more for people who just want to buy a “race engine” then spend another 2-300$ on a kit of plug and play accessories to complete it 😂 don’t get me wrong to each their own but I feel like if your gonna get into something you need to learn it

Just a reminder to some of your younger viewers. The sheet metal coming around the fins on the block and head is there to form a cooling cowling. Too many young minibike hobbyist think the is optional heat shield. Not the case, this sheet metal is there to keep the flywheel fan air moving in-between the fins for proper cooling. If you remove this sheet metal the fan pushed air will not stay in between the fins and the engine can over heat.

First impression, I you want an engine for a "one design" class With more power than the box stock 212, it looks like a good deal. But, if you want to have free license to massage a 212 , with no class limits, the stock 212 looks like the better choice . Then you could start with the 24 mm carb, billet flywheel, aftermarket valve springs and no governor. Plus you would add any other bits.you want. At this point you have more power than the Ghost for similar bucks. In that scenario the stock 212 makes more sense. Good video, you provide a great service to help the rest of us say abreast of developments. You mentioned a laundry list of other similar engines. Do you think it would be too much of a deep dive to compare all of these different engines strengths and weaknesses in one video. Your channel is my "go to" source for design tech on this hobby.

I have a 228cc Tilly race engine from EC Carburetors still in the box for a year and a half waiting for the opportunity to put it on my frame and figure out which gas tank to get !!! The ghost engine doesn't have great specs ...and looks like it was slow for all the hype !!!

i have a trailmaster 196 clone with a stage 1 kit and no governor. im looking to replace it and i was wondering if this engine is worth swapping it. i wonder if i should be messing with these small blocks or just bite the bullet and get a 420. id like to hit in the 50 mph range.

Much happier getting away from the small stuff with my 810. It puts out the same as my old engine did, but down at 2200rpms and then just climbs from there.

@@MrTheHillfolk i made up my mind and am gonna go with the 420. I'm just mad I have already bought a 30 series juggernaut and a super pipe header for my mb 200 lol

The Wildcat 223 is the king of stock small blocks. I bought one delivered I paid $220. The casting [block] is almost identical to the Tillotson race blocks. Also comes with a 7 bolt sidecover. Hands down the 58mm crank is a potential monster. EC carbs designed the engine that's where I will let my comment's rest.

So now for the big kids in the group! Any chance you can do an actual tear down, and spec comparison? What's the springs, cam, ect. Thanks.

Kinda what my youngest son's best friend has on his go cart. And it's freaking fast top speed is like 53 miles a hour. And with me on it top speed is like 49 miles a hour. Lucky the gas and brake are on the steering wheel.
