We bought a rental house next to our house for the same reason, no neighbors. Ours was in town, but the renters were nightmares and the only way to control that was to buy the house, we remodeled it and used it for storage until we sold both houses and moved.

Excellent job guys! I love that you purchased the land. We bought our first property back in 74 and been here 40 years and love not having neighbors close. Hubby likes his privacy after being in a high stress job all week and likes the peace and quiet. I think property as you have gotten is a good investment. Just so you don't go tax poor. LOL I agree with you on having a safe area and the investment that can be a family situation down thru the years. Good job! Happy for you guys! Blessings

Wonderful!! Fishing in the river! More gardening space! Lots more gardening space!! Oh, my stars! Those windows, screens, and storms! I lived in a house at one time that had windows like that. Windows open at the bottom on the shadey side of the house. Windows open at the top on the second floor. The hot air would rise up and flow out the windows on the second floor. We had a nice breeze all day and all 🌙 night.

Each spring and fall the job of switching out the windows for the screens will just a minor inconvenience after the labors of love already put into that beautiful stone House! Congratulations on the new property! I agree, no neighbors is a good thing. We got very lucky in ours, but the closeness of their house to ours is very close for country living, as close as your solar barn is to your home.

Great decision with the new acquisition----strategic and satisfying at the same time. Security and privacy in one package; nice! As for the windows, they "fit" in the concept of a stone house with a history and many a personal touch. Store bought just wouldn't cut it----hand made Amish does. Thanks for taking us along today, y'all. This one leaves me satisfied for some unknown reason and I am richer for it.

I love the idea of your new land. You both have such creativity and imagination; it’s going to be as magical as Stone House someday. Maybe a future home for one of your children… Those windows are the bomb. The little flaws here and there not only show that they are handmade, but esthetically fit your old house. Machine made and perfect would have zero personality or character.

Your home made windows and the extras, like the storm windows and screens for the seasons remind me of the house in Ohio I grew up in, every season we'd change them, it made a world of difference too weather wise. Your outside door in the kitchen of the cabin made sense coming in from what seemed like a summer porch, possibly, on your new property. I thought the sofa was really interesting too. That cabin would be ideal for company or an Airbnb eventually. The kitchen counter takes up a lot of space against the wall, if you put the kitchen widthwise at the end with the window, it'd be smaller but efficient ,and you'd have more room for a living room/bedroom, etc. No neighbors, bonus.

I love the Amish made windows. The one you showed where the screw split the wood, I hope you can take the screw out, glue the crack and clamp it while it dries. Then drill the screw hole a little bigger in the top board and put the screw back in. I don't fault you for wanting to control what happens near your property. I bought some rural property about 18 years ago to have a place to get away from the city and for recreation. Since then, more people have bought property nearby and some built houses. So far, they haven't bothered me, but it's not as peaceful and secluded as it used to be.

Congratulations on the new property, it’s a beautiful hidden gem! You can’t put a price on the value of not having close neighbors. Although I live in the country, I do have close neighbors. There’s a dog that is put on a chain when it’s family is outside and barks constantly for hours. There are a few families within a half mile that have target practice frequently with small and large caliber guns. The “T” intersection near me seems to be the preferred spot for turning donuts and practicing drag racing starts. The folks across the field from me raise chickens in 4 commercial houses that change over every 2-3 months in the middle of the night and then have to be cleaned out. The wind usually blows in my direction. And of course there’s a large Amish population scattered throughout about a 10 mile radius. Meaning lots of buggies on the roads during the weekday, but even more on Sunday mornings and nights. And crazy drivers don’t care if another car is coming when the crazies pass a buggy on a curve or hill. Yep, the more space around me, the happier I am. Can’t believe I’ve lived here 20 years! I once rented a house that had wood windows with separate storms and screens. I loved them but didn’t have to change them because the landlord did it. After all the work you’ve put into your home, it would be a terrible thing to put in what passes for windows today instead of these beauties! 👌💕

You will soon be ready for the Zombie Apocalypse ... Totally understand the 'lost opportunity' idea ... the homestead I inherited from my father is 50 acres (which is lovely), but he put the house near to the property line ... when he purchased, he could've bought the 50 acres to either side and we'd not have had neighbors 'right on our step' now ... short of moving the home, I just have to ignore all the crazy things the neighbors do :-/ Windows ... when you said '22,' I was expecting it to be followed by 'thousand' ... when you said 'hundred,' I nearly spit my tea!! What a great deal for nice, real wood, handmade windows!! (I'm in Texas, BTW)

Really cool new property. Future Air BNB. I would leave the loft if you ever plan to make it a money property. We are the same about neighbors. Our place has actually seen many people move in over the past thirty years and we are considering selling and moving further out. We do not have any bad neighbors, but they bring in light pollution with their outdoor lights and we can no longer see the stars up close. Love the new windows. Can't wait to see them installed. That is an amazing price, I would think anywhere in the country. Popping in and out the storm windows and screens does not look like it would be too hard.

Regarding the windows - what you have is exactly like I use to do as a teenager ever Fall and Spring season in a house we lived in located in Sycamore, Ill. built in the 1890's - fall = glass outer windows went up and in the spring swapped out for screens. All were held in place by swivel stays or knobs much like a wing nutt. Works very well in winter. Also had wool felt lined draps over the windows inside as insulation over indows for winter - also was a 2 story house.
