In this video, Katrina shows us how to make a hexagon for Pam and Nicky Lintott's 'Just one Jelly Roll' Hexagon Garden quilt. This is a very fun and straightforward design, made all the easier by using a Creative Grids 60 Degree Triangle Ruler. Even if you're a left-handed quilter like Katrina!
PLEASE NOTE! This video demonstrates how to make a full hexagon from this quilt, however the finished quilt is NOT ASSEMBLED in this way. If you plan to make this project, read the full pattern as the quilt is assembled using half hexagons sewn in lines.

I think you join only half hexes together in columns and then join the columns together, otherwise you’ll have to join the full hexes together with Y seams.

I absolutely agree! It's so much easier to join the half hexies in a horizontal row to avoid the complicated y seams. And then you sew the rows together in such a way that the right halves come together. Krista Moser demonstrates the technique very convincingly. I've recently learned that from her tutorials. But thank you so much for presenting a great colour choice and this interesting pattern. This quilt is so beautiful ❤️.

Thank you for spotting this! You're right, as per the pattern you assemble the half hexagons in lines to create the full quilt. We're sorry this this wasn't clear in the tutorial.

Yes, the diagram in book shows the half hexies being joined in rows therefore no Y seams.

Love this! But as said previously I think half hexagons would be easier to use, joining in strips and then forming whole hexagons when the strips are joined.

If you stagger the strips when sewing the stripset, its possible to gain another cut. I made one similar, using Krista Moser's pattern. Make half hexies and join in rows, then join the rows matching the halves.

Ugh! I sewed all the full hexagons together like in the video. Now I don't know how I'm going to assemble the whole thing together.😩

I see what you mean now! You sew the half hexi’s across to make a row, not down, then sew the rows together I get it! Brilliant.

Sewed my first 3 strips and I got 10 - 6.5” triangles out of my Ruby Star Koi Pond strips but I messed up and put my dark navy strip on the outside. So i have 5 “pie slices” with navy in the center and 5 pie slices with navy on the outside 😣😣😣 Edited: Turns out not to be a big deal. I have just a couple more hexagons to make.

This quilt is put together by sewing the half hexies together in rows and making the full hexies by sewing the rows together. That way there are no y seams and it goes together very easily.

No. The strip tube is a 90 degree ruler

If you have a ruler with the 45° and 60° lines on it you can check but I don’t think the strip tube ruler is a 60° triangle I have both and I don’t think they’re the same.
