Thank you for sharing your experience with us newbies! I’m 59 and just working on my first quilt. 😊

The way I was taught was exactly how you have shown but my tutor always said 'remember, the fabric strip you want is always under the ruler'. This, I think, always ensures a safe, straight cut as well. Thank you for sharing

I am thrilled to see demonstrations from a left handed quilter. I spend a lot of time measuring and still cut it wrong! Thank you so much!

Worth noting that the fold should be trued up so the top and bottom are aligned vs shifted which is often how it is comes off of bolts.

Thank you so much. I’m new to quilting and the hardest part for me is the cutting. I was just wondering why there wasn’t a video on the cutting, and here you are!

I also love that they make this ruler for left handed people. They only have a few rulers out now, but hoping for more to come out.

You are just like a friend to all of us. Thank you for teaching me wonderful tips. I cannot cut a straight line with scissors or a rotary cutter. You are helping me.

OMG, OMG, OMG, Thank you, Thank You, Thank You for doing this video!!!! I am a beginner quilter who is also a Lefty. I am in my late 50's and grew up my entire life having to struggle with using right-handed tools. I am ambidextrous and can do most things with either hand, however, I write and eat left-handed. But when I grab a rotary cutter, I always grab it with my left hand. So I have been struggling to cut and crossing over my right hand to cut. Thank you for showing the Lefty way and explaining how to straighten the fabric to cut. I so needed this video!! Love it. Thanks again.!

Cutting the fabric is the best and most enjoyable part of quilting for me🥰 Since I watched Donna from Jordan’s Fabrics putting a weight on her ruler so it doesn’t move as she cuts, my life has changed!

Thank YOU ❤ This helped so much with understanding where to put the ruler and how to cut it so I'm not playing Twister, with sharp implements. 😅

So helpful! I actually just messed up some cutting last weekend because my fat quarter got all wonky during ironing which got me all discombobulated trying to cut my pattern pieces straight from my fabric. Now I know my mistake and how to keep things straight in the future. 😊

Thank you for showing how to cut and align your ruler. As a beginner, it is very helpful to actually see how it is done. For me, cutting is hard as it seems I move the ruler as I cut.....therefore not a straight cut as it should be.

We recommend using Creative Grids rulers as they don't slip!

I never use the lines on the board, only ever use the ruler lines as I find it more accurate.

Before making the first cut, do you have to make sure it is on the straight of grain ?
@SewingStudio9 ай бұрын
Hello, not always. If you were cutting a raggy piece (as seen at end of video) you wouldnt have a straight of grain. Provided you cut as shown, it should be fine.

what if your fabric is bigger than the cutting mat and ruler? thank you
@SewingStudio9 ай бұрын
Hello, Katrina said if the fabric is longer than the mat / ruler consider folding it in half and make sure your blade is sharp (because you'll be cutting through double the layers).
