+Hamguy Bacon The PI is meant for makers, not meant for being a PC. It's capable of being a PC, but that's where the PI 2 comes in with 1GB of ram, 4 cores @ 900Mhz, audio jack, full hdmi, 4 usb ports and an ethernet port. You cant fault them for you trying to make it something it isn't.

Damn, the DIY projects this could be used for... And look at the lowered barrier of entry for old people who don't want to buy computers at their usual price points because they're just not into the stuff. I mean for someone that only browses the internet and reads/writes emails, this is the perfect device. This is actually insane, I can't believe this device exists at this price point, but now that they've been able to drive the costs of the computer itself down this far, it would be interesting to see them develop an actual platform (like say a raspberry pi laptop) so underfunded organizations can buy completely ready to use computers at extremely low price-points, with input devices and all ready and able. (e.g. it will be feasible to have computers for every child in every school, even in development countries, and it will also be feasible for interested children of said schools to buy their own or have their parents buy them for them) let's say a 30$ ready and able laptop.

Those are GPIO headers which can be used for various things such as connecting sensors, lights or really any sort of device to the Raspberry Pi. The Zero does not have the pins on to make it smaller so the kit provides the pins for you to solder back on if you need them in afew different configurations to let you choose which pin would be best to use for your project

Do you have to solder the top connectors on the board ? of you can get connectors that clip in ? I am shit at soldering and don't want to accidentally kill my pi by soldering crappy. I see there is also a TV connector holes. Can you solder a coaxial cable into that to connect to an old CRT TV ?
@artfd9 жыл бұрын
+LadyDanielle Zana You don't need coaxial cable, but you need some kind of socket for a composite video cable to attach to a standard RCA composite input on a TV or monitor. Then solder two wires to the section on the Zero labeled "TV" and connect your socket to those wires. I am a middlin' poor solderer, but I already have other RPI models, so if I ruin my Zero, too bad.
@artfd9 жыл бұрын
+artfd My composite soldering job was good enough to work, and I could then input the configuration to use a cheap WiFi dongle in my USB hub. I did that because I had a spare composite jack laying around. Later I went to my local electronic parts store and bought another jack for 75 cents, I will add wires from my junk box. I didn't use coax, just 2 wires. I ordered a mini-HDMI to standard HDMI video cable, and after waiting a week it still hasn't shown up in my mailbox. The store where I bought my Zero is still out of stock for miniHDMI cables & adapters - except for the $30 ones, which I will not buy.

+william northcote Google will be your best friend in your search. There is a ton of material available on using Raspberry Pi's [RPI], for people of all levels of computer knowledge. Haven't found KZbin all that valuable for that. I DO NOT recommend the Zero model for a beginner in RPI. The RPI Zero model has very limited abilities compared to the other available versions. Spend a few dollars more for an RPI that doesn't require you to buy things like a HDMI type C (or mini) connection and a converter for USB standard plugs to USB micro plugs. The MicroCenter where I bought my RPI Zero had also sold out of anything with HDMI type C connections, that was no surprise.

+DaVince21 You're limited by the bandwidth of the USB bus, same as any other system. USB 2.0 is limited to 480Mbit/s shared across all ports on the same bus. This is a game changer. Infinitely customizable 5 USD pc with 1GHz CPU, 512MB of RAM, mini HDM, and microSD memory card slot? Think of what this will do for the third world and the first world. A practically disposable computing solution for students, office workers, business owners, developers, tinkerers, roboticists, and hackers. We live in the age of 50 dollar tablets, 30 dollar smart phones, and now a 5 dollar PC that fit in a standard letter envelope. And with portable wi-fi hot spots, blue tooth, and 3-d printers, we're talking about an age of truly modular and powerful electronics. I expect that the next generation of these Pis will be even smaller, come with their own polymer water-proof housing, and have blue tooth as standard. And when an ultra-cheap blue tooth touchscreen-only device comes out it will be the true end of the desktop era and the beginning of the end for the laptop era.
