2moa would be great. I wonder how it'd pair with a magnifier. I know there would be a small amount of screen obstruction, but the little extra zoom could utilize the range ability a bit better, no? I can see this being very useful for 300BO with an illuminated half circle and some bdc marks.

I just found out about this and I'm really impressed! It would be cool to also have the option of this as a compact rangefinder-only option, that could be mounted on top of a scope, or alternatively used on its own but with a pic rail on top for someone to mount their miniaturized red dot of choice.

Probably a bit to big, but I've always just turned down the brightness to make my dot smaller. But this could just be a benefit of my blurry eye sight. My new sightmark mini shot is a 3moa dot and I think its perfect for 100 yards and in.

I remember using a scope when I was about 12/13 years old (1981 or 1982) that my fathers coworker had. It was a bolt action surplus gun. It had foreign marks on the scope( Russian or some Slavic language ?). It had cross hairs that he set for 200 meters dead on. It also had these circle dots under the cross hairs . They got bigger as they got lower and further apart. He said it was designed to be a sniper rifle scope. He said if a humans head fit inside the dot you could hit someone in the head because people's heads are close in size USUALLY even if their bodies werent. He then started shooting the one gallon jugs we placed in the field. He was hitting them out to 600 yards with the circles. He let me shoot it. If the gallon jug ( about human head size ) fit in the circle and wind wasn't blowing I would make head shot everytime. The wind would blow and I would miss left or right but elevation was spot on. I thought it was a genius idea. Never could find out about this scope , remember he said it was very rare and expensive. He was a foreigner and the engineers boss where my dad worked. A few years ago I saw a similar sighting system on a scope that used lines instead of the circle. Let me tell you those circles made gallon jug ( head size shots ) very very easy . Wish they made scopes like that now.

Multi reticles one circle dot (donut of death) for CQB, one with BDC like the ACSS that stays true when you switch from one to the other so you could use a 3x-5x flip to side magnifier to take better distance shots at least out to 300 yards. Now that would make sense. Although this might work on a 350 Legend build or a 7.62 build that you wouldn't take a shot over 200 yards anyways.

They could have it auto-adjust the dot position based on range. Dial range and put in some holdovers manually and have it calculate others based on that. Laser engagement on a pressure switch like a weapon light, long press to range, release to compensate for drop, tap to reset. This serves no purpose currently other than maybe being useful for sighting in initially.
@toddk1377
@toddk1377 2 жыл бұрын
@@joebi-wan-kenobi5069 That still wouldn't work as it will have to be programmed on specific cartridges and there's a lot of factors that go into ballistics, especially for 5.56/223, such as grain, barrel length, 5.56 or 223 loadings, velocities, ect. You'd have to Chrono the ammunition, input the data, and it will have to have a processor capable of doing that. If they did, that's easily a $700-$1000 optic. The added value is not there for a range finder on a basic red dot, not when I can buy a range finder off Amazon for $80 and use it for all my firearms and in the field. If it has a bdc, then it would open up the market and as long as it was really shock proof and has a good IP rating along with acceptable battery life, I think they would have one helluva optic on their hands.

Less red dots more green dots please. For astigmatism the dot is no longer 4moa it's more like 7-8 moa. For accuracy how about a 2 moa green dot. I for 1 have replaced all(3) red dots for 2moa green dots. I use a vortex strike eagle II w/the option of green or red. I'm not as accurate with my 5.56 as I am w/my Marlin model 60 at any distance, just goes to show familiarity is a factor when using any firearm.

I think a digital range finder would be a perfect addition to a BDC scope. Especially for precision shooting & hunting! Offset mount this on your hunting rifle, and use it for ranging game only, and its a good idea. But it appears to big and bulky for that. As for a combat sight, it might be good. But with out various distance dots, it seems kind of useless for precision shooting. And a 4 MOA dot at 100 yards is just to big for accurate shots hunting. The good thing about red dots has always been, you set it, and forget it. Then start drilling targets. You know you didn't range it to 259 yards. And no true marksman / hunter would attempt shooting beyond their guns range. I like the concept here. I just don't think its perfected. Go back to the manufacturer and tell them you need elevation dots, or remove the red dot and mount it upon a scope!

A dot in itself is no good in this application. I can find decent range finders at the local sporting goods shop, on Amazon, Ebay, wherever, for less than $150 and they work and it's not hard to carry it on your person. I've never seen a respected hunter not using a rangefinder or markers to judge their distance. That said, without some type of bdc, imo, this optic is merely a gimmick to make money. Also the fact there's no mention of an auto on feature, which if there's an auto shut off, it should be in hours not minutes, and there's no IP rating for the optic. I can say anything is water proof, but I'd rather know the testing was done to determine the IP rating. If the battery life is that bad, they need to invest in better omitters, as it should get at least 2-5k hrs of battery life. CR-2 batteries are too expensive if the life is less than 1k hours.

I don't see the point. Any red dot is only as good as the firearms zero. If I mounted this on a 350 legend for example, and the range was 200 yards and I have a 100 yard zero, how in the world am I going to know how much hold over? I can't effectively measure the hold over through this optic using a simple dot in relation to the target. If I know my drop is 2.3 or however many moa/mills at 200 yards, I can't measure that with a 4 moa dot, that's still very difficult to do with any dot. Yes a 200 yard zero can fix this, but then what's the point of the rangefinder being added? If the only reason is to confirm it's beyond range, that's not an added benefit that's worth the extra price imo. I can only see it being beneficial for the zero. Personally, I'd ditch the 4 moa red dot, as I see this more as a marketing gimmick than a useful tool, have a cross hair instead with a 1 moa dot center hold or a Chevron with a bdc in moa or mill dot. Then we can use that to calculate how much hold over we have in that optic. I can't tell if I'm holding over 6" or a foot on a deer at 150-200 yards, especially not with a 4 moa dot. Now if there was a cross hair or Chevron with moa/mill or even half moa/mil markings or dots, that would work and would definitely get a lot more people on board. On the website, there's no battery life mentioned or how shock resistant it was, didn't even give an IP rating. So as of right now, this optic has no advantage over a pinty red dot I can find on Amazon for $30. I'm not hating or trying to be negative, I'm just giving constructive criticism. Let's say those changes were made and the price point is the same or even $50 less, which if I'm being honest here, an aimpoint pro is not much more and neither is a basic eotech, which are well known and proven optics. I think $300 for a Chinese and unproven optic, especially such as this with a 4 moa dot that is practically useless in a lot of cases for a lot of calibers, is too much. The auto shut off feature is not a good quality to have if there's no auto on. I'd like to see 704 tactical and FocussTrip test these optics out and see how they hold up to drop tests, water bottle tests, and so forth. Where I do see a huge benefit of adding a digital range finder, is on lpvo's, fixed power optics, and magnified optics, those that have a mildot/moa dot/hash mark reticle. I like my PA ACSS optics, as we can range the target based on the reticle and sizing, but that takes a moment and can be hard to do at times. This would make it easy, especially being in just mils or moa, that makes it universal for most firearms in most calibers. I can see the added value for that on magnified optics, I just can't on a red dot, at least not one that is just a dot and no reticle or some type of bdc.

I really don't even see the need for a range finder with a red dot. The red dot is only as good as the firearms zero. It's easy to range out objects and stuff to use as range markers. Until there's a bdc reticle, I see very limited use for this particular sight and imo, with very limited information, not worth the $300. A PA optic with the ACSS reticles solves both in one package and they are reliable and durable.

@@toddk1377 all those state and no use for a dot you must not be in woods you must be in fields and wide open places because here in va we have plenty of use for just a dot while hunting and as for ranging things out with some fence post and elevation what if you have no fence posts to use all you have is 78yds with trees in between a dot will be your best friend and you will no longer be a keyboard warrior when you stop trying to explain all the things that YOU dont like about everything

@@TheYamitaven Between using illuminated reticle style optics and iron sights. Been using the ACSS reticles for a long while with good success but it takes time to range the target and can be difficult when it's on the move. So the thought of this sight was definitely intriguing to me. NE was hunting fields. All they have is corn and an occasional tree, didn't matter if it was deer, coyotes, prairie dogs. OH was wooded and shotgun only so a bead sight was fine and I used an illuminated reticle 3-9 optic on my Ruger mini 14 when I'd hunt for coyotes, would a red dot have worked? Yes, but we didn't have good reliable red dots like we do now back then. Missouri was kinda both, but I used my 30-30 with irons and that was just for deer. MI, heavily wooded areas, especially swamps for deer and open ranges for coyotes, especially around livestock farms. I can see where this red dot optic may have it's uses, but the jist of what I'm getting at, the way it is, it fits in a very limited market. Do I like idea of a digital range finder on an optic? Hell yeah I do. I was actually going to use a red dot for my 350 Legend, which I figured would be perfect, but I went with an Atibal at first. While it seems like a great rds, my problem was it wouldn't dim enough so in low light it would make it super hard to see the target, especially a deer as it starts to camouflage with it's surroundings. Switched to a Northtac Ronin P11. So far so good. Be my first season using a red dot on a rifle. To get around all the ballistic drop and stuff like that, I took a page out of Ron Spomer's book and zeroed it for maximum point blank range at 150 yards. I actually zeroed it 1 1/2" high at 100 and verified at 150 and my drop at 200 yards, but this will only work for game who's vitals are 8" and larger. I'll have to use a scope for smaller targets to get that precision but that's not what I wanted the 350 for anyway. I'm also using a 2 moa dot though, not a 4 moa. In the swamps my ranges are no more than maybe 50 yards in all directions, too thick, but I walk past a few fields that are about 150 or so yards, this is why I did my set up the way I did. I just don't understand why they choose a 4 moa dot and such a short auto off feature. I understand it's a gen 1 model, but if these are AR guys, they should know people like some precision and the ratings of the sight which they do not provide, are important features for people to compare and contrast. Lastly the price. $299 for this optic doesn't make sense to me, not with very limited info and in my case, not a 4 moa dot. We can buy some pretty decent red dots for $150 and less all day long and the same for an actual range finder should we need it and we know the ratings on said red dot. That's where I'm coming from. I'm irritated because it's a good thought and something a lot of people, hunters and plinkers alike, could use, but I feel they came pretty short as far where in the market it fits with it's limited features. Make sense? I may be coming off kinda harsh, but these guys at BCA aren't stupid, they're pretty smart, so part of my disappointment is the fact I expected them to execute such a good idea a little better.

Not a fan of 4 moa. Too big.

I don’t think any “long range shooter” is running BCA!!! There affordable and from what I’ve read their accurate. However I feel their maybe aiming high??? Hey I could be wrong… But seriously a 4 MOA dot at 100 yards is big and inaccurate by any red dot principles!!! I’m very glad their in business as I’m very low income. However why not try to build the bust budget AR rather than trying for this stuff??? I both applaud their stance but don’t understand it??? But there’s a reason their still in business and I’m no FFL!!!!

I did. My 20" 5.56 BCA rifle was sub moa with 69 grain otm freedom munitions. I used it to hunt coyotes and woodchucks. Probably my most accurate AR as none of my others seem to be sub moa, at least not with any of the ammo I've tested, but I'm usually happy with 1.5-2 moa.
