Building lightsabers at Savi's was one of the last fun things I did with my dad before he passed away. Because of that and just the overall experience of making my very own lightsaber that is my favorite saber I own. I like it even more than my neopixel saber! The best way I can describe the feel of these is that the old set feels like The Old Republic era while the new set feels like The High Republic era

Protection and Defense has always had strong High Republic vibes but you cannot tell me these new pieces don't have a slightly squished High Republic symbol on them. I am HYPE for it.

I gotta say I still prefer the old ones, it’s the scuffs and marks that just give them that extra bit of life, the new ones look like a decoration piece which it is to be fair but I want it to look like an actual lightsaber and that’s what I feel with the old ones! Great video!

I agree. I like the pieces from both but the new ones look more like a toy to me somehow, the difference in texture makes them less real looking to me somehow. Which I get is a hilarious thing to say about a fictional version of a fictional weapon but still.

My boys and I have done the Savi's experience twice...once at each park. It is arguably the best thing to do in Batuu not named Rise of the Resistance! Those new Protection and Defense pieces look awesome! I wonder what the Elemental Nature refresh would look like!

I only have old pieces from early Galaxy’s Edge and they definitely don’t have notches. I’m certain that they were added so that the parts would almost always line up perfectly I definitely prefer the old designs because their rougher appearance feels more Old Republic compared to New Republic although I wouldn’t mind picking up one of the end caps from the new set because D-Rings are superior in terms of look I also have a feeling these new designs will be the parts we collect in Fallen Order 2

I was finally lucky enough to visit galaxys edge less than a week ago, and I had to build a lightsaber. I immediately loved Protection and defense and had an incredible time building my lightsaber. Just thought I'd share, especially with it being my first time, blind to both the new and old scrap going into it. Super fun, and worth the wild California traffic lol 😂

Dan-O! Those notches actually exist on some newer runs of the old sets too! I have one on an Elemental Nature sleeve that I thought was a mistake until I watched this video. It never bothered me before though because I thought "Well, this mistake made it where I didn't need a washer to align it, so happy mistake."

I built my first one a couple weeks ago. Protection and defense. I was honestly a little overwhelmed picking the pieces to build it. I lost time trying to get the crystal in and then my chassis wasn't working and they had to replace it. Does disneyland have those same preview trays before you go in? I built mine at night but if I would've known they had those preview trays beforehand that would have probably made my choices during building so much easier. Either way it was a great experience and I look forward to my 2nd build someday. Great update video!

I really hops the new Savi's designs are available in Jedi: Survivor. The old ones were in Fallen Order. It would make sense given that the new designs are being released now and Surivivor comes out in spring of 2023

I was just getting ready to go make my first Protection and Defense saber (I already have a Peace and Justice), and I'm so psyched to see this! What a surprise! Hope East Batuu has them! Also, my Peace and Justice pieces that I got at the same time, one has the notch and the other doesn't...so who knows...

The plain sleeve that you think looks better at the top.. I agree it might look better at the top, but I love the way it swells slightly and fills my palm being on the bottom.

They may have started adding those notches (or stoppers) on the sleeves in later versions possibly to ensure that the parts line up like they are supposed to. I remember when the sabers first came out, one of the complaints were that the body lines on pieces would sometime line up and sometimes would not depending on your luck.

Before the changes, I was starting to lean toward Peace & Justice, but... now I'm REALLY into the new Protection & Defense. I didn't expect that "plain" emitter to be squared, but the angled/slotted look is very much my style.

Built a P&D at Savi's a couple of weeks ago with the new pieces (my first and likely only). Very happy with the less hammered, beat up look. I'm sure that with V1, they were going with a more "salvaged" look for the Savi's narrative, which I totally understand, but I'm glad they're moving away from that and focusing on a cleaner asthetic. I'm sure we can expect the same from the refreshes of the other themes.

I remember early on in the Savi’s saber saga seeing a trick to getting the hilt to line up… Mine def doesn’t (June 2021). Can someone remind me? It was a matter of putting something in or on the threads I think, so they’re tight but stop sooner. Love to fix it

WOW the crystals look so much better now. Also, do you (or anyone else) know HOW the ignition switch works on these? I have looked at over and over and can't figure out HOW it does anything. Also, I checked my sabers. My Protection & Defense saber has NO notches. But my Peace & Justice one does, but only on the top middle piece. I got both in September 2019, not long after Galaxy's Edge first opened. Also, NEW BLADES!? That's they have at Savi's now??? Or did you get that elsewhere?

No they don’t offer the old protection and defense pieces on the tray anymore. But you can purchase the old pieces separately

I got my lightsaber in summer of 2021 and one sleeve has the notch while the other does not. The sleeve with the notch is a lot looser than the sleeve without it though.

It’s never enough! Savi’s saber $270 (after tax) droids $130, I spent just under $200 on food and drinks in one day. Trying all the new items and 2 drinks at Oga’s. I spent $100 on other merch and I went pretty light this time around. That’s just 1 day and I never really left Batuu. 😳

I always wondered what if the Crystal you want is no longer there- Will they grab another set? Because you already pay around 200USD right for this- so I would like to not pay extra for another crystal i really wanted

yeah they have multiples of those cannisters with all manner of crystals. More crystals than there are people building sabers. If for some reason everyone before you takes all the blues or whatever just tell them and they'll grab another cannister that has blue.
