And l picked up The Call of Duty set - my first - from 88 Films. A great boxed set, filled with value. Literally took me a week of viewing to go through the four films, listen to the commentaries, and watch all the extras. A terrific, jammed-packed set worth every penny l paid. Beautiful package design as well. I look forward to my next purchase from 88, as those Hong Kong action films of the 1980's were incredible!

Picked up THE LAWYER from Kino Lorber. Surprisingly funny and fast paced for a courtroom drama. Unusual camera angles and soundtrack, and terrific work (and extras) from the terrific Barry Newman. The film has a fresh, contemporary feel to it, considering it sat unreleased for over a year. Overall, a SOLID feature at a great price! Thanks again, Heath!

I’ll be honest, I have not watched or heard of any of these movies before. And that’s why I enjoy your content Heath. I am genuinely sad you are thinking of stopping this type of video, and I wanted to talk about it before I can’t anymore. I really enjoy martial arts films such as Shaw Brothers’ One Armed Boxer or the Bruce Lee films like The Way of the Dragon, so I perked up when I heard martial arts in your video. Watching the goofy and awesome stuff gives me a surge of power to do a workout on my floor. I’m wondering which ones of these you might recommend more for me. Also, are Bran Flakes cool?

Seriously, are any of these movies that you wanted or enjoyed before they were suddenly “for sale” in 4k? Not being a butthead, it’s just that I’ve bought many many things because the graphics were fantastic, mostly games, even though I am not a gamer. I can understand the appeal of seeing old obscure films with stellar remastered 4k resolution, but I try and avoid that personal rabbit hole and carefully choose my purchases and repurchases if I own films on previous formats.

Great roundup! As usual. 1) THE UNINVITED and THE QUEEN OF SPADES were A-pictures, not low budget, poverty row films. I suspect THE UNSEEN was an A-picture also (produced by John Houseman with screenplay by Raymond Chandler), but I've not seen it and don't know that much about it. 2) The director Frank Borzage's name is pronounced "Bor-ZAY-gee". Critic Farran Nehme said "I think we all learned to pronounce "Borzage" by watching "A Personal Journey With Martin Scorsese Through American Movies".

I've watched A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese Through American Movies, but heck if I can remember how to pronounce everyone's name. I'm old. Get off my lawn! In all seriousness, the most consistent comment I have gotten over the years is related to name pronunciation. I'm still not sure I'm pronouncing Beverly Linet's name correctly--I've never heard it spoken.

DVD sells the best? Not amongst the Boutique collectors that is for sure. I guess the DVD sells so well thanks to Grandpa and Walk Mart cheap bins? NOTHING AGAINST DVD I still dabble in DVD if I find something rare when I am out and about. I'm just trying to figure out why is all.
@CerealAtMidnight6 ай бұрын
It's a question collectors have been asking for a decade or more. Why is DVD still the dominant format? The answer is that for most people (not us, but the general public) DVD is good enough. Blu-ray will never surpass DVD and 4K will never catch up to Blu-ray. There simply aren't enough of us to change that--if there were, it would have happened years ago during Blu-ray's golden age. The same reasons people use for not supporting 4K are the same ones DVD buyers use for not upgrading to Blu-ray. "I'm not buying my collection again, it's too expensive, etc, etc"
@joshua28146 ай бұрын
Pretty much. In Walmart particularly you can see that DVD is everywhere. Even at Barnes and Noble (which has cut back a lot) it seems to be about half of what they offer.

Any time Arrow does the restorations themselves is cause for celebration. Paramount is very inconsistent with their transfers - something which is keeping them low on many people's rankings when they make favorite studio lists. It's like the studio uses a "dart on the wall" approach to their decisions on what gets good treatment and what gets a throwaway job. It's pretty frustrating.
@CerealAtMidnight6 ай бұрын
What’s really going on is that Paramount has a huge bank of 4K restorations that were done years ago and those are being mixed in with newer restorations. For instance, Once Upon A Time In The West was restored in 2018, but wasn’t released on disc until 2024. Six years is a long time in restoration terms, but their newer restorations have higher quality standards. I’ve met the folks at Paramount and I can promise you they’re not throwing darts.
@luisdomenech5396 ай бұрын
@@CerealAtMidnight Well that makes sense. Hey, since you have pull at the studio maybe you can convince them to release the 1989 version of We’re No Angels 😇
@CerealAtMidnight6 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say I have pull, but what I saw was a team that knew the catalog deeply and was eager to leverage those films on home media, either through Paramount directly or by licensing them out to third parties (Arrow, Kino Lorber, etc). Have you seen my interview with Paramount's Todd Sokolove? He's refrenshingly open, or as open as he can be while still working for a giant company. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jofUgKqAnL6ljM0
