I did own a 25GTX Phase 1, MARK I (couldn’t resist). Fabulous car! The comfort… and incredibly spacious, especially in the back. Front seats like sofas! Back to the audio part: the double DIN Philips 4x20W Radio Cassette unit (graphic equaliser included, how very eighties :) a very decent amplifier (especially for the time period) and 4 (or 6) speakers (dual cone) as standard. Not bad, not bad at all. The Renault radio stalk rules! I’m showing it renewed and therefore more love Mark! Take care, Philyvo

It's okay Matt, we know you hate the fact that the entire British car industry is owned by Germany, India and China, and the French is still domestic, so it's a way of coping to have to a totally negative stance when you review French cars and making up a bunch of issues that aren't actually there.

That wobbly feeling could be due to a structural problem of electric cars with flat batteries. Due to their flat shape, even if they sit low (and that gives the car a low center of gravity, which is good for handling), they are wide which is very prejudicial to one of the three moments of inertia. Unless the car compensates that with a very stiff suspension, which compromises ride comfort, it is going to have that wobbly feeling. Very few manufacturers have actually decided to go for narrower batteries with inverted T shape (using the space the transmission tunnel would leave) to improve that, but then you have a slightly higher center of gravity. Still, they tend to handle better and allow for better suspension solutions, such as the Polestar 2. Just a guess, I don't know the car nor have I driven it.

I briefly looked at getting this vehicle and had a really thorough test drive, but I eventually decided to go for the Peugeot e3008 instead, after a similar test drive. I think the Peugeot is just better designed and I think you get more tech for your money. The boot layout with the back seats down is a real pain, as you can't simply slide anything forward. This is especially problematic (as the review video shows) when loading heavy gear. The Renault doesn't have as good range as the rest of its class and doesn't match the Peugeot. This review claims the Renault to be a little quieter than the Peugeot, but I can't say I noticed that when I had a test drive. But, if this is your first electric vehicle, be aware that pedestrians will think it's quiet and almost get themselves killed as they cross the road in front of you, having not heard you "creeping" up on them. It happened to me twice, neither time being my fault, they just stepped out in front of me, but one time a young woman nearly got herself killed. If I hadn't been concentrating she would be dead now, as I had to quickly swerve and I missed her by centimetres, with her coat hitting the passenger door. It scared the hell out of me, so just putting it out there if you've not driven an electric car before. Also surprising was the immediate torque, you press the accelerator and it just takes off, it doesn't have to go through the gearbox, because there isn't one! Even an automatic car, no matter how fast it is, has to work through the gears before you get the full traction. For me, it felt like I had to learn a cometely different way of driving. One less traumatic experience was when I was sat at traffic lights and this boy racer turned up alongside me in a souped up Peugeot 208. He was looking across at me, smiling and revving his engine. The lights changed and the reasonably heavy e3008 just said goodbye. I had a good chuckle at that. I'm not too keen on the rear mirror doubling as a camera and the sensors DO get bunged up in bad weather although there is 360 degree camera in the Renault. The so called flush door handles are gimmicky and a pain to use as they slowly move into a useable position. But the Renault has a rear wiper, unlike the Peugeot, which is supposed to be self cleaning, but it ain't. You have to give the rear window a good wipe down every few trips. All of these issues however are personal choices, there's very little to choose between the two cars. I just prefer the Peugeot and what probably clinched it for me was the icockpit, which seems to wrap itself around you. It also looks stunning, with premium materials used. The wrap around curved 21 inch screen is awesome and seems to float above the driver shelf. The Peugeot seats are much more comfortable, especially on long runs and if that run includes a night drive, you'll be blown away by the ambient lighting in the cockpit. You won't be disappointed with the Renault, its a good car, but in my honest opinion, I think.you would be more impressed by the Peugeot which is a very good car, but do get the GT Spec rather than the Allure. I ordered mine in Obsession Blue, which looks absolutely stunning. Both cars are solidly built on decent platforms, so I guess it all comes down to what you're looking for in your new vehicle, a good range, plenty of tech, design etc. Both cars have similar sized boots around 545L, but I've already described the problem with extending the capacity when you put the rear seats down on the Renault. The Peugeot wins out on that one. Whatever you buy, providing you have a decent fast charger in your area, electric is the way forward. It's clean, cheap, quiet and fast given its almost instant torque. If you regularly use Motorways, there's already a decent infrastructure with new chargers being installed all the time. I recently did a trip North to Scotland on the M6 and on the way up I had to recharge. But the charger needed an app and an account which I had to set up afresh. Then on the way back South, I stopped at the same service station, thinking it would now be easy to recharge as I now had the app installed and linked to my debit card. But, no, on this side of the M6 they only had Tesla chargers, which also needed an app and account. But try as I may, it just wouldn't work on my Samsung S24 Ultra. So, I had no choice but to drive a further 25 miles with serious range anxiety to the next service station. This also had a different charging setup, but fortunately it was one I already use at my local supermarket. So, that's 3 different chargers for one journey and of course you need a charged mobile phone with the apps installed. Once it's all set up I have the confidence to do similar road trips, but I guess every new service station I use I will be anxious until I know what system they use. I looked online and in Playstore, to see if there were any apps that identified the type of charger being used at service stations, but whilst I could find plenty of apps telling me the type of charger being used at a service station, I couldn't find anything that told me which company operated the charger. I have a fast Podpoint charger at a local LIDL supermarket and I do find it very easy to use, however, I've yet to find a Podpoint charger at a Motorway service station. I'll be honest, I love electric cars, it's the future for sure, but it's not going to be a fun experience on a long road trip, until the Government speed up the installation of the recharger infrastructure. I don't mind having different types of charger or the company name operating them, but there needs to be continuity of charger installation, as I've now got 4 seperate charging station apps and accounts which is crazy. By the way, if anyone knows of an app that shows me which chargers and their operator, are installed at Motorway service stations, please let me know. Given the long range of my e3008, I'd love to plan long road trips to Europe, for example, a lovely drive over to Prague which takes 18 hrs actual driving time covering 900 plus miles. Or, there's a great road trip to Bulgaria which takes 30 hrs actual driving time, stopping twice at a B&B along the way. But, if I can't even have confidence in driving an electric car on a relatively short motorway trip of 250 miles over approximately 4 hrs, then how can I have confidence in driving across several countries? Maybe I have to wait a few years until the new charging technology comes online, that's charging elelements buried in the road surface. Currently being tested, the idea is you sign up for an account, the road sensors identify your vehicle as it passes over, links it to your account, then wirelessly charges your vehicle. I don't know exactly what tech the system uses, Bluetooth, microwave? But it certainly.sounds very cool tech. I wonder how many sensors are needed to provide a continuous connection until your battery is full? Perhaps by then, batteries will be so efficient you only have to charge them once a month over a 10 min charge 😊

Note to Tesla who is charging the UK more than Europe, particularly the M3P which has been grossly overpriced in the U.K.- Renault are coming for your lunch, charging less in the U.K. than many European countries.

I can’t explain why in the past every manufacturer could fit 3 seats in the back and nowadays you only get 2 (that middle “seat” it’s not friendly at all). Even in the bigger cars… such a shame.

Clicked on the pop up banner and didn't find the full in-depth review of the Peugeot e-3008, is it only me or the link is not there? It takes you to the written review but no video review 😢

Did Matt forgot to say anything about the round window? I did see some round thing on the left window behind the driver.

weird that Renault don’t have an AWD/dual motor version. If they did, they might steal some Tesla Model Y sales

Anyone who slams Renault for making electric cars REALLY should try one - not a Zoe - and get back and tell us how they felt about it.

Weiß man eigentlich schon, ob auch ein elektrischer Grand Scenic kommen wird? Gleicher Radstand aber längeres Heck mit größerem Kofferraum wär Spitze! 😊 Wunschlänge 4,80 Meter bitte ❤

Looking at this or the 3008 GT! Not decided yet. Scenic wins on back seat size, but the width of the boot gives me concern as the car is smaller and narrower than the 3008.

the thing with the braking is a typical problem with Renault EV. Tested Zoé and Twingo E-tech and they also have this weird brake curve. it's probably linked to the way mecanical brakes take over at low speed when regen braking is too weak.

I think this is a fantastic car. The two downsides to me is that V2L is not an option and it's front wheel drive.
