I went thru a rape in the Army. They absolutely will try to cover it up at all costs. 😭 the sexual harassment started prior to the rape and my chain of command did nothing to stop it. They wanted to brush it under the rug. There are way to many creeps hiding behind the uniform.

No one wanted to believe her until a couple months after and he was in a horrific car crash and died. The circumstances if that crash helped them to realize he wasn't the guy they all thought he was. I think the issue is that people don't want to think of the group of people who sign up to put their life on the line to defend America as anything but a heroes. If we would just stop and look at them for what they are, human, what should be done would be a no brainer. Do an investigation into all accusations. Prosecute anyone believed to be guilty to the fullest extent of the law. Anyone found to be covering up for someone else should face charges equal to those they are covering up or ignoring. I also wonder if military bases should be policing themselves or should that be a different government run department. I think a part of why the armed forces are getting away with these crimes is because of how the much control ranking officers have over the policing system. If there was an external system outside their jurisdiction such as a branch of the FBI for military policing we might see a lot more of the criminal acts prosecuted. Specifically when it comes to the sex trafficking we hear rumors of. It took Congress bringing a third party into Fort Hood before they recognized the systemic issues in that base and took action.

I recently got out of the Army and left with so many scars and trauma. It’s unreal how leadership don’t protect you when you ask for help, especially if they don’t like you or see you as someone who doesn’t belong. Bullying and ostracizing by your own company when you have absolutely no one can end lives. I had a squad leader commit suicide because of this very thing.

I worked for the US postal Service in the 90's and left due to sexual harassment. 6 of us reported the harrassment all together to the 2nd in command and were told "Boys will be boys now get your asses back to work". The offender later became our supervisor and continued to sexually harass us. 10 years and I finally had to leave.

I never trusted my former employer's HR to take anything seriously, protect, or hold those in high positions to account. I wanted to join the military when I was younger. My dad, a 30-yr Navy vet didn't want me to enlist and offered to use his benefits to pay for college instead. He knew it was not safe for women. I'm not surprised at how the military handled all this and there are many others women who have suffered or are still suffering in silence. Change needs to happen.

Horrific. Poor girl, SOMEONE in her chain of command should be ACCOUNTABLE that is just the fact PERIOD. I am a deputy sheriff in the South and my jurisdiction also holds a large military base with over 10,000 soldiers. We do not have Ft. Hood but we see quite a bit of it all off the base here. As of 20 years ago the military is supposed to have a solid chain of reporting that removes the offender or the victim from the victim's presence, period. The offender is then investigated by CID. If any of it strays off-base we are called in. It's past my understanding of UCMJ as to why this predator was allowed to remain right where he was in proximity to Vanessa when there were MULTIPLE complaints and some from bystanders with no ax to grind. Everybody from the First Sgt on up to brigade commander should be held to account here. They have removed commanders before for loss of faith in ability, it needs to happen at Ft. Hood NOW.

For any women who want to join the military, don't join the Marines or Army. The Marines and Army have the worst quality of life for females. The Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard takes harassment, assault and investigations a lot more seriously. I'd also say to avoid the Army, because even people with a criminal record can join-and if you "don't show up to work" they assume you're AWOL and won't care or look for you. How else do you explain all those soldiers reported missing by their families but later found dead nearby Army bases. The Army cares the least about their soldiers. It's all hands on deck for the Navy, Coast Guard and Air Force if our people don't show up or are late.
