I used to get lunch at the food trucks along thirteenth street at Franklin Square Park, across K street from the Washington post building when I worked around the corner. About a week after he was murdered somebody put up a little street sign on a pole in the tree planter right outside the revolving doors that read "Kasshogi Way". If someone gave me 2 billion dollars for an actual investment or whatever, I'm not touching that money at ALL. As a relatively poor person for most of my life I would most likely return that money INSTANTLY, unless it was a gift but even then it would still seem highly suspect. 2 billion dollars that I got would go directly to a foundation that would benefit our entire species

I have inlaws who are Trump supporters. They are - shockingly ignorant, deeply racist - middle-aged cops & teachers who have convinced themselves that the GOP is "good for business" and that "rich people vote Republican." Again real democracies have conflict of interest laws to stop these things. Not just for people out of office, but those still in office. For example, in the UK, political parties have to publish lists of who they received donations from and so do individual members of parliament, who also have to submit lists of all their sources of income, including firms they have stocks in. Missing a donor or an income source from this list is a breach of parliamentary ethics and the MP can be forced to resign. Same if they sit on a committee that could financially benefit any firm they have stocks in and if they leave parliament they are banned for 2 years from working for any company holding a government contract. The cure for corruption has always been transparency.
