I have been a Ridgid user for about 8 years. the LSA is real, register the tool, if it breaks, call it in, they make you bring it to HD service center (if one is near you) they log it in and the worse part is it could take them 6 weeks to get it back in your hands. I have had an orbital sander replaced, and battery as well as the giant lockjaw tool. never had an issue. They stand up well, I use them weekly on house construction, I have dropped them (more than I care to remember) I love how one battery fits everything. All chargers work on all batteries. This line is replacing the Octane line they had and I believe the 5X is going away too. Too many choices I guess. as far as the size of the bottom, the only thing I can think of is that the Octane batteries were slightly bigger but not by even a 1/4" I say? Maybe that is why it sticks out to house that size? no idea. But good video and great channel. Oh, and if they don't have a refurb tool for you in the LSA or cannot repair yours. you get the newest one they offer, so not a bad deal. which is why I went with them because of the LSA. Hope this helps

I've had this combo set for a little over a month. They are a pleasure to use. I've never had the size of the battery interfere with the sub-compact nature of the tool. They consistently do the work of a full-size tool, but they are less fatiguing to carry and use. Also, I've been impressed with how long the batteries last. I can easily get several hours worth of work done on a single charge. Not using the tools constantly, but using them every few minutes as one does when working alone. I've also been impressed with how quickly the batteries charge. The kit may not come with a fast charger, but it's certainly faster than your average charger.

Let me tell you what .... I bought this set for a commercial trellis job because of it's size needing to fit in tight spaces. Over 24 units, they managed 7800 #14 2" self tapping stainless steel screws attaching 1/4" to 1/4" aluminum for the structures with 3/16" pilot in the scorching Florida heat.... Still going strong. If there is one issue with the Ridgid impacts, they get hot as hell.

The "RIGID LIFETIME GUARANTEE" is why I bought RIGID, not Milwaukee!
@markm3.16
@markm3.16 4 жыл бұрын
It's not a lifetime guarantee that would put legal action behind it so they call it a lifetime service agreement (LSA) as long as you register it on-line within 90 days. I have the RIDGID line for that reason also.
@WarPigstheHun
@WarPigstheHun 3 жыл бұрын
well what does the warranty cover then?
@josephkebbekus5780
@josephkebbekus5780 3 жыл бұрын
@@WarPigstheHun I believe they cover very similar problems, but the difference is the 3 year is a warranty and the LSA is not. Since a warranty has legal implications, companies can be held accountable in court if they violate the promise of the warranty. The reason Ridgid offers a LSA in addition to the 3 year warranty is they can lure people in to their took ecosystem with the promise of lifetime service, but it is completely on their terms. There are many stories of people getting boned by Ridgid when they sent tools in under the LSA coverage, but since it's not a warranty there is no way of fighting Ridgid. The LSA is definitely better than nothing, but you have to be super careful about keeping all your paperwork straight and cross your fingers if you want to use it.

Vince I bought the Ridgid combo kit X4 6 years ago along to go along with my 3 year old (at the time) Ridgid reciprocating saw. I have used all 3 (with the 4 amp batteries that came with the combo kit) and been so well served. The drills and saw along with the batteries and chargers have a lifetime service agreement that makes these the best choice for this DIYer I do not see any down side using Ridgid tools for the homeowner.

I know im gonna get a lot of dislikes for this comment, but my ridgid hammer drill,x5, is a bit more powerful than my gen 3 fuel hammer drill. The design of milwaukee is a tiny bit better, but the feel of ridgid stuff is way better. The way the rubber molding is around them and the batterys is a great feel. I love both, but i choose different brands for different jobs.

The RIDGID LSA (Lifetime Service Agreement) is real. If you fail to register for the LSA within 90 days, you tool reverts to the standard 3 year warranty. My first RIDGID tool purchase was a drill/driver combo kit 16 years ago. The original charger died after 6 years and was replaced with a new equivalent. That charger died 5 years later and was replaced with an upgraded smart charger. The two 1.5 Ah Ni-Cad batteries originally supplied both died at 14 years old and were replace with 2.5 Ah lithium Ion batteries. All replacements at No Charge. The original drill and driver continue to run strong. I also have a corded hammer drill that has been repaired (full guts replaced) three times without charge. This is why I now have 32 RIDGID tools registered on their website.

I switched to Milwaukee from Ridgid. Must say Ridgid warranty is great I took a dead battery to their distributer 2 yrs after purchase. They replaced it immediately with a new one. All you need is the code from when you register. When you register print off the warranty codes for each tool. For convenience if needed.

I love Ridgid’s tools. I’ve had their older Fuego drill/impact, and bought a bunch of the octane line. Hammer/impact kit, the grinder, the high torque 1/2” monster. The subs are next on my list. The LSA is killer too. Had an issue with the LED trigger on the impact. Took it into Home Depot after a quick call to ridgid for my LSA number. They swapped it out for a brand new impact after a quick diagnosis. Easy as pie.

The collet reaches past the front of the battery, so I'm not clear on how the battery is going to prevent the tool from reaching the target. And that would assume a bit of zero length, which doesn't exist. I'm also not sure the battery sticking out little behind the tool is a concern. Your hand also sticks out behind the tool in order to use it, no?

i bought my first rigid drill kit when i was 18 years old, it came with a light, a screw gun a circular saw and a tool bag. that kit still worked when i was 32(im 41 now) but the 2 batteries i had finally overheated and died driving 4 inch screws into 3 roof joists while sistering boards after a tree landed ona buddies roof and we were trying to make emergency repairs till dude could afford to have it contracted out. i immediately bought another drill kit to finish the job... this time with a drill an impact and a multitool... they still work... albeit they are a little tired from tons of abuse from home owner project to home owner project. and the multitool was flawed becuase the exhaust for the motor was right near your hand and it would burn you after a while. the impact was so torquey it would snap drywall screws into wood and self tappers into 1/4 inch steel like they were paper or try to break your wrist while driving(i know they arent the right screws for the job but sometimes yuou use what you got in a pinch. its still impressive). still have them they still get the job done.... but i just bought a new kit plus a sub compact circular saw on an impulse buy for a project i was starting, came with a drill an impact a multitool and a sawzall ive used all except the sawzall so far and they are absolutely flawless compared to the old designs. they mastered thier shit. the batteries are huge becuase they are universal and work with all previous generations of rigid and while they have a battery type like the m12 line in milwaukee that slides into the handle it grossly underperforms compared to the brick type batteries

@@brandonpurselley402 That's too bad. I've always had good service when I needed it. The motor on one of my drills that is many years old started sparking lots so I took it in for them to fix... A few weeks later they called back and told me that they fixed my old drill and that I could also still keep the new one. Now I have 2 drills🤷🏻‍♂️

I've so far have had great experience with Ridgid. I bought 5 tool kit (2005) as a upcoming new home owner and current part-time employee at HD. Used tools for so may homeowner and helping friends/ family...decks, garages, benches, porches, tree trimming, etc. Never had a tool problem to date, only battery. About 7-8 years in, batteries were shot (no charge) had to take ALLn tools in at that time 40 miles away to authorized tool store to submit batteries for warranty. Took a couple weeks and had to go back and received 3 brand new batteries that came with the kit. Since that time tool use has been probably 1/4 use from the first 8-10 years.....more recently about a few years ago. All batteries are dead again. Approx 2019, called Ridid, gave service agreement number, battery serial numbers over phone, lady said ok no problem, you will have 3 new batteries within 7-10 business days, which I recieved to my door in mail! Hello!!! 5 STAR!!! Still using now, 1/2" hammer drill A+, Sawzall A+, 7 1/2" Skill Saw A+, threw away flashlight and 14.4 impact.....I'm pretty dam happy with my 2005 tools!

I have the subcompact Ridgid drill R8701B and the M12 fuel hammer drill (2504-20) from Milwaukee, the Ridgid is much smaller at the head and at the handle and feels much smaller and way more comfortable in the hands than the M12 Fuel even when using the Ridgid 4.0 battery, the Ridgid is also much quieter. The M12 fuel battery insert and removal sometimes gets tricky and hard to deal with, the M12 handle is a bad design and feels thick on the hands makes the tool feel bigger than it is. The Ridgid subcompact drill R8701B tool only cost me only $69 this is the newest from Ridgid 👍

@VCG Construction. Thanks Vince for the unboxing and demo of these Ridgid subcompacts. Like you, I can't believe Ridgid is packing that chinzy charger with their cordless tools. Those power bricks are probably cheaper to make but take up alot of room especially on a power strip. I think the problem with Ridgid's 18V batteries is the way they designed the pack. I keep my Makita and Dewalt 18V batteries in a Dewalt DWST08201 Tough System Small Case that has those individual bins. The Ridgid 18V batteries are longer so they don't lay flat in the bins. You're right about the LSA: register the tools, batteries, and charger within 90 days of purchase and then they'll be covered. If you get replacement batteries from a LSA claim, those have to be registered again so you continue coverage. So far, I've one tool (12V cordless drill/driver) that I've taken to a Ridgid authorized service center for chuck replacement under the LSA. For whatever reason, the model I have the chuck is riveted to the motor. Not screwed onto the motor like every other chuck but riveted. Long story short, they took care of it. Hope you and your family stay safe and well.

The problem I had with those Ridgid tools is that the rev/fwd switch was too easy to accidentally press in when I gripped the tool. That usually resulted into putting the tool in the middle 'neutral' position. I ended up returning it because of that and ended up with the Ryobi tool which has a better position for that switch.

I really like the look of these except for the ridiculously large sized batteries. And what is with that chintzy little charger they give you? If I want compactness, I’ll stick with Milwaukee or go out and get a Makita T16.

I'm another Ridgid tool fan. I have had the 18v combo set since they first hit the market and have put many many hours on them with absolutely no issue. Same with a Ridgid Planer, miter saw, stapler, table saw, router and of course the vacuum. The LSA is great, but you must create an account and register it. Ridgid does a great job of logging and tracking your tools through your acct. once you set it up. The only item I have had an issue with is their belt sander. Don't buy it, it is total crap. I have gone through 2 of them in no time at all.

Ridgid has never once honored their Lifetime Service Agreement for us in about 6 years. We own something like 8 drills, 6 impact drivers, 4 impact wrenches, 3 recip saws, 3 orbital sanders, 2 grinders, an SDS gun, a circular saw, 12" chop saw, 10" table saw, multiple lights, the 18v fan, around 20 batteries, and a good handful of oddball stuff I'm forgetting... Once this batch of tools die, we will probably be switching to Makita. There is always some shenanigans that Ridgid dusts off whenever we've called with a problem, even something as simple as a battery pack. TLDR: Ridgid will bake up a fresh excuse to not honor the warranty anytime you call them.

I did know about the service agreement. That's why I spent over $800 on their tools this month. FYI, Milwaukee, Ridgid and Ryobi are all owned by the same company. Something you might not know is the service agreement is only honored if you purchase from Home Depot! Also, the charger in that combo kit takes twice as long to charge, as opposed to the full size one. Yes, all batteries have fuel level lights.

Many years ago, I bought a Ridgid kit; hammer drill, circular saw, reciprocating saw and a flashlight. I bought it at Home Depot and I registered it. When the drill failed a few years later, I reached out to Ridgid for repair or replacement. They said that they could not find the registration and it was not a proper kit because all the serial numbers did not match.

I use the Rigid 12V drill/driver and impact more than my 18v Rigid drill/driver and impact set. Those are tiny and sooo nice to work with. Plenty of power. Not sure if these 18v sub compact models are needed? If they didn't have the 12v line up then yeah but they do, so....?

These are subcompact 18v tools. Ridgid does make smaller 12v tools if you need extreme compactness. I’m not sure any 18v tool is going to compete on size with 12v tools. It’s not really possible to do that with a full size 18v battery. Having said that. Thanks for showing us some cool new tools. Keep up the good work.

I only have a few cordless tools, they are Dewalt. But I recently purchased a Milwaukee M12 rotary tool. As I look at some of the other M12 tools, I can see purchasing them because of their compact size overall, including the battery size. I definitely believe there is a place for the M12 size tools.

I'd love to see a comparison between the impact drivers of the Ridgid and Ryobi One HP. I have tested them and noticed that the Ryobi is about 20% faster (counting by Mississippi) when diving 3" screws into oak wood, but when driving lag bolts, the Ryobi took 9 seconds while the Ridgid finished in about 7 seconds. As a weekend warrior, I am wondering if I should settle for the speed loss in favor of power and a lifetime warranty. Your thoughts?

If you have a battery crap out on you, you have to mail it back to ridgid at your cost and they will send you a home depot gift card or coupon for a new battery. But, to get this to work you have to register the tool within 90 days of purchase, this requires you to enter the serial number of each item, a copy of your receipt and the UPC cut out of the box.

I know I'm probably a year late for this comment but the push came from Milwaukee to get into the subcompact because it's a theory but it's a working theory that Milwaukee being the parent company of rigid and Ryobi didn't like that the octane line outperformed its own offerings so therefore Milwaukee told rigid to calm it down and therefore got rid of the octane line and started to focus on the smaller lines but still on an 18 volt platform and got rid of their 12 volt offerings because Milwaukee has fantastic 12 volt all freaks and God forbid rigid or Ryobi took away from Milwaukee's 12 volt sales just a theory.

I have the regular impact & hammer drill combo kit. Though I love them they are a bit heavy and if you need to get into a tight spot the compact unit would be a good idea. I have 3 & 4Ah batteries which have power indicators. Of course the bigger the battery the heavier the tool but it lasts longer. I've heard a lot of compliments about the LSA where they try to claim the tool was miss used and you have to pay for shipping even if the service center is right near by. You're not allowed to carry it in. That's pretty crappy if you ask me. And they ran a special deal online where if you bought a 2 ok of the 3Ah batteries they would give you a free tool. Cool, or so I thought. When I tried to order the set with the multi-tool it was out of stock, but when it came back in it was more money so I called to complain and they finally said they would give it to me at the lower price but when I tried to get it it turns out they can't ship it to CA. I asked why if both the batteries and multi-tool are both sold in the store to which they said they didn't know but sorry. RIDGID sucks for customer service as far as I'm concerned. Sorry I went on one but hey, thanks for the reviews. Love your show.

My drill driver broke after a couple uses, felling gutted as I bought it used but new in the box and have no LTSA. During the last several months Iv bought many Ridgid tools and I’m kind of regretting it even though I bought them from HD. Really not sure how I feel about Ridgid anymore if a new drill doesn’t even last 6 months with minimal use. Though Ridgid we’re as tough as the more popular brands.
