The issue it more likely with the mass produced $2.40 contact frame. Especially when you have a second copper IHS that is giving you the same result. Buy a new contact frame and see if the problem is still there. Gamer Nexus reviewed the Thermalright Contact frame and found a decent amount of variance between them when they compared multiple frames.

No it's not. There's multiple issues with this posted on rock it site. It works perfectly fine and fits fine with stock ihs so this makes no sense ... and it happens on thermal grizzly frame as well

Thank you for making the video documenting this problem for people that want to use the CPU frame instead of the stock ILM. The CPU frame is far superior and it is unfortunate that the copper IHS can't work with it. I should ask for a refund. They need to make the external dimensions the same as the stock IHS.

the cheap copper IHS i got on alliexpress is way better machined. it fits my thermalalright frame pretty well. my stock ihs contact surface is wonky. it looks like subtle rolling hills. i could spend 30 minutes to an hour lapping it but i rather not.

For whatever it's worth one company or the other (dont know if it's the RockitCool made the IHS smaller or Thermaright made theirs bigger), but I just installed the copper IHS and the contact frame fits fine

The circular dimple on the copper IHS needs to face down towards the arrow on the contact frame. I'm using the same kit and frame myself without issue.

Watch the whole video, and you’ll see that I did. (Dot matched up to arrow). It doesn’t work…I’ve been doing this since 2005. I’ve delidded every cpu I own. It doesn’t fit. When I first mounted it, I thought it actually fit. You might want to double check your IHS is actually flat.

The contact frame has a bigger gap on one side normally already to begin with. I own all 3 contact frames, a 12900k, 13900k and a 13900ks. Its supposed to be like that on the Thermalright frame. I believe that is why the Thermal Grizzley frame is supposed to be slightly better for memory overclocking due to the IHS sitting square in the center of it, even on both edges unlike the Thermalright frame. Memory pins on an LGA socket are located around the outer edges of the cpu. The uneven level of the top of the copper IHS however is def not normal and was a defect. Personally I like Thermalright frame the best of the 3 I have, same 3 Gamers nexus reviewed. So far have had more issues trying to mount the Thermal Grizzley one properly without wanting to mark up my screws with shapie incase of RMA in future.

I'm very good with metal so I'm sure I could machine this to work perfectly but after spending $145 I don't really want to have to do that. Looks like I'll be going with direct die.. temps are supposedly much much better anyway. Thanks for the video! Also question... I have a 13900ks with my own custom loop setup from EKWB (only cooling the CPU) as I get fantastic temps on my gigabyte 4090 with stock air cooling. What kind of temps are you seeing with direct die? (Saw you went that direction in the comments) what are you seeing at idle and under load? I can't remember completely stock (with a 360AIO) what I was seeing but with my setup now with a 100% stock non modded 13900ks I'm seeing 38c idle and cinebench R23 after 10 minutes it doesn't go above 83c. I know those temps are just a little high with my ambient being 21c consistently but I'm running the thermalright contact frame and it's very difficult to mount the EK CPU Waterblock correctly with it and I'm not going to drain my loop and re mount it until I fully commit to direct die or a delid and copper IHS setup. Probably going direct die depending on my further research and what you say.

You may want to double check it. It seems like it fits. I mounted and installed mine originally and even thought all was well. However, it’s titled the tiniest amount to one side. Making the inner IHS not touch the die correctly and evenly.

I just ordered this kit for my 13th KS and I had heard of your vid, so I found it, then checked mine for fitment.. mine fits perfect however, I bought a new frame as I have a Z690 Hero I am going to build soon for my wife, so my old frame is till mounted on the CPU in my system, I will heck that frame vs the new one as I wonder if your frame is out of wack or the IHS... but my current combo fits perfect, but if I had gotten what you did I would have also been upset and I do appreciate you putting the word out hence me wanting to check it closely.

Damn, this sucks man. Did you try another frame? My thermalright lines up perfectly with the copper IHS from rocketit cool, it even has some super minor wiggle room and height is consistent across all four corners. They're not very consistent with tolerances from what I've heard, so buying another frame might solve your issue.

Of course the stock IHS fits fine. But the whole point of the copper IHS is it’s flat, and offers lower temps. Rockitcool is not test fitting the product.
@donuthole7236
@donuthole7236 Жыл бұрын
@@videocardzrule354 That's kinda what I suspected. The Rockitcool IHS is not machined in a way that makes it an exact fit over the stock IHS and as a result is not compatible with a contact frame which should have been the title of the thread. This was left out of your video. Not very smart on Rockitcools part. Their web site really lacks any real technical information on their product. I suspect most of the improvement people are seeing with this IHS is due to using liquid metal but I think there is long term implication to using that over thermal paste. Lapping the stock IHS and using a contact frame is probably the most practical approach

Using the frame as a template cant you just mark the area that that is causing the alignment issue and dermal / file it down... I know it extra work, but it looks like it can be made to fit perfectly with a little extra tlc
