I grew up in North Vancouver, that's cool to hear that you like Rocky Mountain, which I think they have the best mountain bike brand name in the World, it's the most original and representative of mountain biking.

I just got my first RM (frame only) a 2006 Slayer 90. Never tried an RM before, but always wanted to. Can't wait to ride it. I'm from the PNW, and always try to buy as many components from Pacific Northwestern companies as I can for my builds.

Stickers used to be the best thing about race events and trade shows. When I was 11 my dad was racing in the world jet ski finals in Lake Havasu City, Arizona and it was the best sticker collecting event as a kid from Kent it was the most amazing experience I must of collected about 200 different stickers, posters, keyrings, & mouse pads without spending a penny. My dad didn't get to race in the end but I didn't care as we had all the stickers.

Thank Doddy for sharing my story on rewind. I loved racing back then. I had 3 Trek 8000's, I worked for a shop back then. Right after that pic of me at the top by the kamikaze sign I was clocked at 52 MPH, looking back I don't know what I was thinking. Thank you for all the great content you put out, look forward to the show every week.

Vitus 2020 mythique range was pretty bad, the chainring was so close to the swing arm that it would gauge out slits in the metal if a bit of grit got onto it, also the deralier hanger was held on by 1 tiny Nickle or alloy screw which over literal weeks would crossthread and come out leaving the deralier being held on by the thru axle, this year they have had a great looking set of carbon frames which I'm glad to see

Back in the late eighties, the day before the Kamikaze Downhill at Mammoth there was an uphill race going up the same course. Did that race; but, then followed it up with a test run on the Downhill with my Tom Ritchey hardtail cross-country bike. Have to admit that one of the scariest experiences in my lifetime was coming down the first half mile of that downhill. The broken shale-type rock surface was extremely loose; so, you could not touch the brakes once you committed to 'letting her drift'. Dropped out of the next day's Kamikaze run for good reason. The Kamikaze course is still there; but, doesn't appear to include that first half mile section any longer. Those were the days.

The last time I was actually disappointed with a purchase was in 2019 when I had purchased a new hardtail from my local. Beautiful bike that got me through some tough times. However, it had been some time since I was familiar with the scene ( ten years+) and wasn't up on current tech or really how things worked anymore. As I had previous knowledge I had the ride thrown on a stand for my inspection before leaving the store. I had noticed a slight wobble on the rear cassette and had asked the head mech if this was normal. I got the "eh, it's probably fine. Don't worry about it" line. Trusting the mech i let it go. About a year on, I found I couldn't get the rear mech aligned for the life of me (no rookie on this). Grinding gears is never fun. Brought it in in the spring, got the "uhh, dunno what that's about, should be fine" line. After a few weeks of digging online in my spare time, I had discovered that the brand of rear hub on the bike was known to leave the factory with a high percentage of deficiency. If someone doesn't ride hard, it doesn't really show up. About six months later, after attempting to XC/trail my DH rig, I brought the hardtail to the shop. After leaving it with them for a few weeks (pandemic causing delays, darn stuff) I find that it's under warranty and I'll get a replacement. Six weeks go by, no response. I contact the shop, find the mech quit and the process wasn't finalized. Process restarts, and about three months later I get a call from the shop that it's ready. When I pick up my ride, I'm asked if I wish to keep the old parts. On a whim, I say yes. As I get to the car, I notice the "old" part was clean and freshly greased. I think to myself.. That is weird. Never had a shop clean old parts before. I get home, throw the bike on a stand and find the same darn problem I had brought it in for. Then I realize. The old rim/hub...it was the new one. So I just did the rest myself with proper tools and got it set. Rides perfect now. Long story short, Daggone pandemic overloading our poor community helpers at the local shops. This would have likely been caught sooner in another time. Cheers, all. and thanks for letting me rant!

I bought V6 hubs from Superstar components. The engagement ring inside the rear hub came loose, and the aluminium around the holes which hold the paws cracked. The end caps of the hubs were also very loose, and fell of whenever the wheel was not on the bike. The customer service also wasn't very good.

2017. I bought a Trek Fuel Ex8 with knock block technology. The bike is awesome. Love the bike. Hate the knock block tech because it requires proprietary aftermarket “adapter” if you want to put on a different stem. Why do I consider this a bad purchase? Because I’m now locked into bontrager parts and they are difficult to get. (Even prior to covid) I take full responsibility for not researching this properly myself before buying the bike.

Luckily they are really client friendly in the Netherlands and they picked it up for free and refunded the full price. Now I ordered the canyon stoic. It wil be deliverd I may so stoked

Pair of 100% knee pads. Great fit, comfortable, look great - unfortunately after one ride the very weak mesh to the rear of the pad started to tear and come away at the stitch, in multiple places. I get the mesh is designed to keep your legs cool/dry but that stuff is so weak - especially for £50+ pads

Last thing i bought that i was disappointed with was a sram Sx group set. It came on my Marin hawk hill when i bought it new. It’s a great concept to get 12 speed for its price point but for me it was the most inconsistent drivetrain I have ever used. Under load it wouldn’t shift correctly and wouldn’t index correctly across the cassette. Since then I’ve upgraded to gx and love it

The last thing that I bought that I wasn't 100% happy with were some rims made by a company beginning with W and ending in TB. Wonder if you can guess what brand it is? The only reason I was disappointed with them was that they claimed to be Tubeless Ready, however, the air leaks through the rim of the wheel. I have changed the rim tape to some better tape and it is still doing it. This, however, is just one problem aver many years of enjoyment so I'm not holding any grudges.

I would love to see a brand spec top suspension components across their line. Some people don't care about their drivetrain and don't want to have to buy x01 for 3 times the price of so just to get good suspension. Just left with a lit of low end suspension components on pinkbike because people want to upgrade. My buddy rides the adventx drivetrain with top level suspension haha.

Disappointment: SRAM Guide brakes. I bought my son and myself Specialized Enduro Comp bikes (2017). They came OEM with SRAM Guide brakes. Honestly, they were a huge disappointment. You would grab a handful of brake on a decent DH trail and basically there would be nothing. The response came sort of delayed. We lived with this for a couple of seasons. However, this led, especially for my son, to doubting whether or not the bike could take us down the trail at speed, which basically destroyed the experience. You never want to feel that way in the moment. So, I swapped out those brakes for the 2020 Shimano SLX 4-pot model, and both of us are back on point. You request grip, you get response. Job done. The rider focuses on the next trail feature. Safely.

I was really disappointed with DMR V8's. Bought them perhaps not knowing a great deal about pedals to find they aren't serviceable and the bushings got stiff very quickly. The pins also wore smooth and aren't replaceable. Not to mention the fact half the paint had gone within the first couple of rides. Since learned equivalently priced composite pedals that are serviceable are far better. Hasn't put me off the brand though as I'm now running the new V11's and I think they're amazing.

Doddy great show as always! Love the fact you are a coffee drinker. As a knuckle dragging American love my coffee. ( I find if I throw my first cup in the face it work's faster and don';t need to drink as much to get the effect.) So two thing's first with the tech. I've been keeping my bike ( 2020 Ibis Ripley)in the car so I can ride after work. I've noticed as the days get hot my ride seems to be stiff. I find I'm letting a little air out of the tire's before my ride. What is the heat doing o the air side of my suspension? Is this have anything to do with my ride? I have a suspension pump but but haven’t really messed ted with it. do i need to let air out of my suspension to get it to ride plush? If you get back the me I would love to send so local coffee roster your way. leave the address in the answer and I will be sure to send some y'all's way. Thanks Mike.

I tried putting eagle drivetrain on a freeride class bike with 26” wheels. For many reasons that had nothing to do with the performance of the product in its intended use I didn’t enjoy it and ended up going back to the x9 sram it had originally. The frame didn’t have proper clearance for the 12spd and the chain liked to catch on the inside of the frame during aggressive riding. The derailleur was too low to the ground (designed for 650b and 29” not 26”)and I broke off the trailing cog. Should have used a zee fr type drivetrain (10spd, 11-38 max not) instead of trying to cram a 50t on a bike designed to jump and well not much else (2014 kona entourage). Imo the gx eagle is great for an enduro/trail bike that is modern. Not a bike built to fool around the north shore that doesn’t pedal at all.

So the Instinct is just an altitude frame with a different shock mount. So they're passing on the savings to consumers with lower prices, right? Right??? 😑

@@ark8tct Check out the pinkbike article, they go into details. It's a smart move by Rocky, this is the year to pull something like this. I just hope they reinvest their profits to try to innovate a bit somewhere else.

@@ark8tct I've got three Rockies, they're great bikes, especially the Altitude. But you will get better component specs from Canyon for the same price... So unless you value the look and brand name, and warrantee/dealer access, your money goes further with the Canyon (similar suspension design, géo). If you do your own work on the bike, go Canyon. If you need a shop if something goes wrong, go with a bike that has a nearby dealership.

Disappointed with my purchase? I’m going to name and shame 5:10. I purchased a pair of the Impact Pros, the high end down hill model, and after a month they started to show ware but after 6 months completely fell apart. Wiggle were very kind and refunded me but 5:10 were less than helpful. I now use a pair of Specialized 2F0’s and they are golden after a similar time.

The last component which disappointed me was a fancy machined 52T front chainring from KCNC which i got for my commuter Bike. I was overtaken by a guy on a road bike and thought to myself, not today, not with my new chainring and got out of the saddle. In this instant the damn chainring snapped on me mangling my front shifter and my new chain. Humiliated and out of a working bike i had to push the final 2km of my commute.

04:06 I think the guide on the chainstay is a flawed solution, also this guide is not optimized for oval chainrings, but at least it's mounted on the centre. but I rather have a chainguide mounted to ISCG05 mount or to BB.

Got a bike with sram nx, was very disappointed. Shifting was very lackluster compared to my other bike with shimano slx and unlike the shimano (which has worked flawlessly) the sram nx never stayed shifting well. I'd get it to work great, then a couple rides later it would become out of wack again

Disappointed products; Ibis Ripley V4, XT build full Kashima Fox. I wanted to move away from an xc bike to one with more travel, ie more comfort, one that would still pedal well for long days. After replacing all the suspension it’s finally starting to feel in my mind how it should from the factory. Compliant while still lively.

The last time I was disappointed, was my present bike. It is 2019, the brakes are really week, my old bike v brakes were better brakes( stronger) , the forks are flimsy, coil that started squeaking like a old bed spring, 2 mths after purchased when I tried to get them fixed, 3 different bike shops including the shop I bought it said they can’t be serviced. It also climbs bad and it is XC bike. I could understand all this if it was a Walmart bike, but this bike is from major big brand. My 1988 Nishiki Kodiak was all around better bike( wish I still had it).So It not that hard to get a bad bike this is a perfect example of a bike that is garbage and the shop I bought it from was more interested in the sale than actually helping a new rider get the right bike. What I have learn over the last 2 yrs thanks to all of you GMBN I would never have even looked at the bike. Sorry for the novel but it really is bad bike.
