What? He's saying he doesn't think about other people's _personal_ choices, elected officials have public and policy choices, that's not the same thing. Not worrying about what other people decide to do in their personal life is NOT the same as not having an opinion, or avoiding confrontation. Jesus commenters, gain some reading comprehension.

@@TheOJDrinker Literally nothing you just mentioned was in the original post, so I think you're just projecting your own reading comprehension issues onto us here. But more importantly, claiming to not care only to go out onto a public forum and loudly declare how much you don't care isn't admirable-- it's moral grandstanding. She's essentially saying "I'm better than you because I pretend to not care about what others do."

For every child born in a bad condition there are 30 couples looking to adopt. It’s literally 30 to 1 for many reasons but one big one is society doesn’t promote and encourage starting families young so women are literally infertile by the time they decide. Also Dems keep jacking up costs with reckless spending making young couples nervous

I'm 53, no kids and I've supported my aging mother to where she won't lose her house for the last 10 years. I was able to give my nephew a trip for his graduation before heading off to college. I contribute a modest amount to my nieces monthly rent so she can live in a safer apartment complex in a safer area than she could afford on her own. I was able to help her with moving costs and I also teach her about finance and savings. Bottom line it doesn't take having your own children to value family. Some don't have the option to grow the family they're in. #childlessdoglady

My aunt, who would be 108 now, told me the secret of her long life. “No husband, no kids, no stress.” She outlived all 6 of her siblings and all but 2 of her sisters-in-law. She had her mental faculties intact until the night before she died. While I would not have chosen her life, I can’t fault her for the choices she made. She did have someone who begged her to marry him, but she consistently refused. She knew her mind and was committed to her course. We should all be so lucky.

Exactly. And it's a hell of a lot of work to raise children at any time in history. It is often a thankless and unpaid job that our larger society fails to acknowledge in any meaningful way. I had two children. But, my grandmother had 5. She was five months pregnant with her 5th child when he very young husband suddenly died in the early 1940s. She had 4 other children at home all under the age of 9. The physician felt so sorry for her, he kept her in the hospital for 10 days just so she could rest before facing her continuing grief and the work ahead. She was fortunate to have good family support but her children were all 9 and under.

So what will you be doing twenty-five years from now? Are you independently wealthy so you'll be able to hire a companion? Or will you be in an old folks home with nobody to visit you? And when you die, will you be survived by a brother or sister whom you won't have seen in a decade? You can live the way you want-I just wonder why it is that people like you don't ever talk about your twilight years and what every social study I've ever read says is the curse of old age, loneliness. I once worked as security in an old folks home-my job was to sit in the hallway to make sure no resident eloped. One afternoon the private rooms in my wing were cleared so they could be cleaned, and there before me were seven people sitting in their wheelchairs inactive-they didn't even look around, much less talk to one another. I have no idea whether they had children, but that moment just struck me with horror, since they did not seem alive. Of course, many old people are lucky enough for younger people to call them spry. Maybe you'll be one of them. Maybe you'll be like Mamie Van Doren, who at ninety-three likes to post photographs of herself on Twitter in which she wears blouses through which her _massive_ nipples poke; it makes me think she still fucks. Maybe at that age you'll still be fucking, too. Still, I don't know why childless people feel the need to justify their choice-people who do have children aren't wrong in thinking that, as animals who reproduce sexually, they have done the thing that is really the only reason for their existence, and that having children, at least when you raise them right, is a blessing. Methinks, protest, etc.

I completely support your decision. And the world doesn't need more kids. And I envy your "pluses" - but only a little. As someone who didn't want kids, but now absolutely loves them and would have many more - if I could afford it, I personally find your response dripping with "selfishness". Once you have kids, you realize that the life of others becomes a newfound priority. Of course, not everyone feels this to the same degree, but I think in general you naturally become less focused on yourself and more on others. But it's a choice and just like with religion we shouldn't look down on anyone's life choices or try to take away their rights or any other nonsense proposed by JD that comes out of his hypocritical mouth.

I'm one of the managers in a store, at the time I was the low manager on the totem pole... It's Easter, and we have one door that doesn't seal properly, so it'll be locked but wiggle in a big wind, thus setting off the alarm. I get a call from the alarm company to go check it. On Easter. 😐 The next day I ask why the other FOUR PEOPLE ahead of me in line of importance didn't answer the alarm company when they called. And damned if the one directly ahead of me in line didn't say "it's a HOLIDAY! We were with our FAMILIES!!" I said "so was I. We had my grand parents over" (so me, my parents, my sister and my grandparents) I was met with "noooo we have FAMILIES. With CHILDREN. that's more IMPORTANT!!" I took a deep breath. Cleared my head. And let loose anyway. My reply was a cold deadpan "Nancy, ur " family" consists of the husband u stole from his first wife and his kids. You've not made any children, so u can take your MORAL SUPERIORITY about your "family" and stick it where the sun don't shine. Women who steal other women's husbands have no morals anyway."

@@strategicsage7694 look at the average income in the 50-60's and the average home prices. You could buy a home on a single income, it was your asset and part of your estate. If the other parent chose you could stay at home and raise the kids. That was about the last time America was great, we had an uber strong middle class, we manufactured everything here, and we were the greatest country in the world. In today's world you need two incomes just to buy a home, then you need to afford child care (someone else is raising your kids) since both parents work, and it costs a fortune just to raise kids. If I were coming out of high school right now, I know having children would be the farthest thing from my mind.

As a middle aged guy with no cats OR children, Vance really did piss me off with that. First off, I'm not against marriage or kids. Just never ended up having either. But the thought I can't have any say or stake in the future... I can't care about the future of the world without being a parent? How about worrying about what the future holds for my nieces and nephews? And don't those "fanatical" environmentalist care about the future whether they have kids or not?

Well said. I've chosen I don't want kids, but I'm also a stepdad, and have had to do caretaking for my wife and ex wife, so I know the burden of parenting. A lot of folks treat their kids as an accessory, to make them look good. Forgetting that this is a little person with their own wants, needs, opinions, dislikes, etc., Deciding to, or to not have children should be a CHOICE, and if you choose no, nothing wrong with that. Making a baby is the real fun part(if consensual), but it is a lot of work, its time, money, energy, commitment, and it will test you in so many mental and emotional ways. Folks need to know that going in, and many don't, and then wonder why their kids are off.

Don't know where you are but my American son and his wife who live in England had their daughter free of charge with cradle to grave security for all of them. Of course that was before Brexit and Boris Johnson and the determination to privatize everything including health so it's become problematic but we all have faith that Starmer will right the ship of state and the NHS will see brighter days again. I trust we'll see improvement here in the states with Harris/Walz when they get the mandate for governing WE the PEOPLE intend to give them in November.

i've NEVER wanted children, butmy best friend who has 2 kids with 2 different women for YEARS would tell me how great it was and how i'd love it so much once i had one too and that we were crazy for "waiting" to do it (even though me and my wife were never "waiting", but that's how people interpreted our answers of "no" lol) because the younger you are when you start parenting, the better it is (LOL @ that) ......... well he's now 40, constantly broke and borderline depressed and stressed to the max on a near daily basis, his oldest daughter with his first ex-wife (whom he hasn't lived with for 10 years) is now a depressed maladjusted teenager with no social life and a minimal education while he's struggling to pay the bills and expenses for his younger daughter while me and my childless wife with our cats go on camping trips every week during the summer and enjoy our lives as much as possible every day......... and he's very recently admitted that if he had the chance to do it all over again, he'd 100% never go down that path and never have children society indoctrinates people from a young age that the only life path is to go to college, get married, buy a house, have kids, go into massive debt for the rest of your life etc etc etc and it's complete BS which is exactly how i've felt for my entire life as long as i can remember...... almost 40 now and have *NEVER* felt a shred of doubt or regret about it also my cats are awesome lol

It's funny, yet nauseating, how many people here are almost fetishizing breeding and parenthood, while these parents are basically showing us how their own kids clearly won't be supported on their path of personal choices either. The parent that calls childless women names, is everything but a loving, trustworthy parent.

The childless statistic being celebrated isn’t largely by choice, it’s because people under 50 can’t afford to buy a home and have any sort of security to start a family. Young people also aren’t social enough to find a partner. They’re young, broke and sexless and they’ve lost faith in the system…

Interesting. I don't see this at all. It sounds a little like maybe you're projecting a bit? I've seen some envy here-and-there from parents - for sure. I have also seen parents criticize the childless for being more selfish and/or fastidious. And well... if the shoe fits? It's not a criticism. It's just a function of the circumstances. When you're only responsible for yourself, you spend more time worrying about ... yourself.
