Thanks, Lewis! And for some potential areas of relief: People take a look at Culture in Decline series by Peter Joseph, it is over 10 years old, but guess what? Still as relevant as could be! Also look into sustainability groups in your local area and building mutual aid networks. We are gonna need them as capitalist-profit-maximizing stupidity collapses society around us. Look at Library Socialism (Srsly Wrong Boys), look at Mutual Aid Networks, One Small Town Contributionism and Democracy at Work with Richard Wolff. And Vote Dr. Jill Stein in November, for the Green Party. If you are tired to corporate DemoPublican party donors not caring about the climate crisis, then vote for a candidate and party that does.

As a Desert Storm veteran, 130ish are temps I experienced frequently at sea while taking wet bulb / dry bulb readings in the Persian Gulf. The space we were assigned to stand watch 4 hrs ×2/day was where the steam distilling plants were it was usually about 150°F. Anytime the air is hotter than body temperature, your body's sweat becomes useless at cooling you, and water treated heavily with bromine dehydrates you further. I sincerely hope our country's Navy has improved the way we provide drinking water to the crew. If not, I fear there are likely sailors still being harmed by the water they have available to drink
@lordXAVIJAANBJERGNOG4 ай бұрын
The Navy takes climate change seriously but politics won't let their research be used as evidence.
@hanshandkante50554 ай бұрын
Wow. EVERYTHING you said was wrong. 1. "Anytime the air is hotter than body temperature, your body's sweat becomes useless at cooling you" - NOT TRUE. If its hotter, your sweat will evaporate even faster. What is important is not the heat but the HUMIDITY. If the humidity is extremely high, your sweat will not evaporate as fast and therefore you have less cooling effect. 2. Bromine does not affect your hydration process, especially not the concentration that is allowed in drinking water.
@lordchaa15984 ай бұрын
It’s been so brutal in my area this summer. We had 10 straight days with the heat index over 110. For the next week it’ll be 90% humidity and 90 + degrees, with little to no rain in sight. It’s already 85 degrees when I get up 4 am. You can only work outside for so long before your own sweat no longer cools you down and actively starts to boil you alive.
@robo50134 ай бұрын
Don't be over dramatic. You can't 'boil alive' in your own sweat. Extremist, alarmist statements like that just fuel anti-climate change sentiments. Also, at over 60% humidity you stop sweating, at least on exposed parts of your body. At that point the moisture on your skin is condensation.

It's not like they're claiming to be following the teachings of anyone who CLEARLY states to care for the poor, the needy, the oppressed... It's not like they claim to be led by teachings like, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ It's not like they should be familiar with anything like, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ I think He might have mentioned the word, hypocrites, once or twice, also.

Technically, I think it’s the hottest in 100,000 years. Of course it has been *much* hotter in the geological record but not while humans have been kicking around and building the wonderful civilizations. Climatic changes like reduced precipitation, inundation, draughts have all played a part in destroying the biggest civilizations in history. And if you think technology can solve this issue for us, the Indus River Valley civilization had shower cubicles and working toilets and were still forced to abandon their cities when drought arrived. The primary difference between the indus, the Romans, and us in the present day is that we are directly responsible for this climate chaos and the changes are coming increasingly faster and harder. We are in for a rough ride.
