best way for rv manufacturers to help rv repair problems improve is to drastically improve the build quality its just that simple
@user-qm8nj1ou4y
@user-qm8nj1ou4y 3 ай бұрын
No, not really that simple. If they want to make rv’s that can be towed by the types of vehicles most people drive, they have to use light weight components, if they want only people with f550’s/semi’s to be to be able to tow them, quality would improve but then most people wouldn’t be able to tow it

Generally I agree with you Don, it’s build quality. But the builders can’t build a good product if the design incorrect for the application. In my Jayco, the builders built what was designed (generally) but the design is really weak

Avid Canadian RVer here. The Canadian market suffered had one major impacting factor after another. To start with, Canada is a country where RVing is a 2 to 6 month of the year past time, depending on who it is, where it is, etc. So Canadians who are looking for something they can do any time of the year are generally not looking at RV's, many are more inclined to look at vacation rentals in the Southern US or Mexico, or Hawaii, or whatever, some place where -50 isn't an annual event, celsius or farenheight doesn't matter, at -50 you can't tell anymore, everythings numb. COVID was a major disruption in that, we had travel bans that lasted almost a year, travelling outside of Canada was such a tricky prospect that a lot of people decided "well, if I'm stuck in Canada I might as well enjoy it", so RV sales went WAY up, this caused a massive shortage in sellable RV's, a lot of people who had serious cabin fever went and bought RV's that weren't even necessarily good for them, simply because thats all that was left. Then the factory shut downs hit us as well, we feel stuff several months to a year after you do because of the time it takes to import things, but also our dealers have slightly lower priority vs the larger US dealers. Then we had about a year and a half of buyers remorse, the used market was FLOODED with low cost, near new RV's, which caused a massive drop in new unit sales, we're still coming off the back of this and we're starting to see some stability return to the market. As someone who camps 8 months of the year in the Canadian prairies (the second coldest region next to the high arctic regions) I can safely say "4 season campers" don't actually exist, why? Because propane remains a liquid and doesn't pressurize propane lines below -44f (-42c). Making a 4 season camper a 3 season camper (if you're lucky) and a 1 season ice palace.

Would love to know why Canadian dealers are SOOOOO much more expensive than the US dealers for exact same item. e.g. I'm looking at a 2024 Heartland Corterra; they are all over RV Trader for $60k in the US. Using a reasonable exchange rate of 1.35, that equates to about $82k CAD, but the best price I can find in Canada is $109k CAD. That's $27k more than buying from a US dealer AND the extra GST actually makes it a $31k extra hit. I really would like to support a Canadian dealer, but that's too much of a difference. Anyone know why such a huge delta in pricing between CAD and US dealers for exact same RV?

Great video and when it comes to your service here is my recent, this week experience with Bish's here in Meridian. I called Bish Fix and went through the issues with your tech, the parts needed were ordered and I was called to schedule a date to bring it in. I dropped our Newmar Ventana off this past Monday Feb 26th. Well, on Thursday the 29th I was called and told my coach was ready, so I went and picked it up with all three items corrected, replaced the wiper motor, replaced the water AutoFill solenoid and valve and replaced the countertop of the TV on the televator. Now that is 5-star service.

Out west here people ask us to swap to a gooseneck pinbox all the time but I don't think we ever considered how it could negatively affect them or shared that information with them." 2 things: 1st is that gas prices do not affect us BUT we are retired, have some money saved, can afford to go where we want to go. Younger people may not feel the same way. 2nd is Forest River looking at owner input, specialty shops for repair and upgrade of FR products. We own a Leisure Travel Van. LTV (Triple EEE) is incredibly responsive to owners. We can call LTV (in Canada) and get all sorts of information plus the online support. Almost all of the manufacturers of products used by Triple EEE are equally responsive. This is a plus for everyone. I won't go to my local RV repair place and ask for something that won't work well in my rig because I can check it out first (and so can my favorite RV service place).

Enjoy your perspective and appreciate the information. A couple of things I'd like to mention. 1. Engineer and build quality into the RV from the beginning to cut down on warranty work after the sale. 2. Design so that the residential market can compete such as appliances, bedding, solar and so on. 3. Demand better quality from the suppliers especially the big one Lippert. 4. Educate the prospective buyer so they know what to demand. Stop telling them this is your only choice and you just have to live with it. If the money stops changes will be made. 5. Build for the price. Why pay 200k for an RV that won't last any longer than a 60k RV? The price to build can't justify that difference in price. It's not like it cost them 140k more to build it than it did the 60k one.

Fuel cost factor: I bought a new travel trailer with the express intention of using it LOCALLY, only 30 miles from home. I was able to secure 4 separate camping trips inside of summer, at our State Beach Campground in CT. I can't wait!! The Forest River ideas sound interesting and potentially positive. Regarding fuel prices: We're making plans to make shorter trips, closer to home this year. To us it seems fuel price increases are direcly connected to the dates we plan to hook up our gas guzzler for a trip, so we'll be seeing more of the southwest, which not a bad thing. Tip of our hat to New Mexico's excellent state park RV system, where almost every park has at least some full hook spots. Something I haven't seen anyone really talk about is security. What's out there to protect RVers and their rigs? Security systems like Ring or something similar? Is there an option other than Air Tags to track it if it gets stolen, is there something for RVs similar to OnStar? These key-alike systems give me the heebie-jeebies because it's pretty well known manufacturers only use so many key 'codes' and criminals seem to have them all. THere's the electronic locks for the entry doors, but what about the baggage doors? A hitch lock is one suggestion, but a member in a group I'm in had their rig stolen the first night it was in a 'secure' storage facility. Thieves used a stolen truck to ram the gate, hooked up their rig with just the chains (they had a hitch lock in place) and drug it away. It was all caught on camera. I've seen so many stories of rigs being looted on dealership lots waiting for service, at storage facilities, even in their own driveway. Any insights, or links to sources, would be appreciated.

Canadian here. Just around the Ottawa area, I've seen at least three dealers close and one of them turned into an RV clearance center, probably to liquidate the RVs from those closed dealers. And just about every month there is an RV liquidation sale at our NHL team's arena parking lot. And the dealers that are still in business, their stock is just not moving. Only time it does move is to the liquidation sale and it then comes back. One near me doesn't have much stock but hasn't since the pandemic and I think he was smart enough to not buy a lot. I think the market just dried up after the pandemic fire sale, the high interest rates and the morbidly high fuel costs and getting higher with increasing carbon taxes 😕. Still hanging on to our 2016 Coachmen couple's trailer. It suits us just fine and it owes us nothing.

Saskatoon area is going through the same situation. The dealers tried to cash in on the pandemic rush and got stuck with aged inventory in the high end rv market. The average price I can best figure is/was over 45K for a modestly sized, 20ft travel trailer with the larger end approaching the 70k plus price range. One of the largest dealer chains is closing a store that has only been open a couple of years in a brand new building. Saskatoon is also saturated with RV dealer, with I think 6 dealers in the area all selling pretty much the same lines.

Was that white truck hooked to the Winnebago Minnie a Nissan Frontier PRO4X? It looked like it, but was hard to see/be sure. If so...nice to see the size comparison of the truck to the RV. It's always hard to visualize, LOL! (My Frontier SV has a slightly higher tow and payload capacity because it doesn't have some of the features the 2021 PRO4X has: like the skid plate, sunroof and extra speakers in the sound system.)

If you were shopping for an RV be VERY careful with General RV. They will tack on thousands of dollars in baseless fees. It's up to you to not let that happen. Recently got numbers on a grand design Imagine travel trailer and they added on 4,500 of fees but couldn't explain or itemize.

Josh, Something else that has a very big impact on the RV market is the cost to rent RV sites. I currently live in Louisiana, but frequently visited parks in Mississippi and surrounding states. We sold our 2021 camper to upgrade, but just before we pulled the trigger, RV parks doubled their rates. Unfortunately this was a deciding factor for us, we didn't move forward with our purchase. The cost of RV sites greatly impacts the purchase of RV's. What was once an inexpensive way to enjoy the outdoors while having the convenience of home, is now too expensive for some to enjoy. Being on a somewhat fixed income, when the cost to rent an RV site rose from $32 per night to almost $65 per night, our decision to purchase faded. We love camping and hoped to do more of it when retired, but this is no longer an option for us. Just wanted to share my thoughts. Thanks so much for all you do!

Good talk as usual. I think interest rates will drop later this year but it won't be back to the super low rates we had a few years ago. Assuming we don't drop into a recession, and I don't see one coming, I suspect the Fed Funds rate will settle somewhere around 3% - 4%. The Wisconsin law sounds good if it helps drive quality improvements. If the RV industry would truly self regulate this wouldn't be needed but IMO they have shown they can't regulate themselves. Personally I think RVs need to be brought under state lemon laws. Making RV manufacturers responsible for buying back some of the stuff they build would definitely drive quality improvements. It should also help improve customer perception of dealers by not having RVs sit for months awaiting warranty work.

Recently purchased a used 2022 East to West Alta 3150kbh. Paid $26,000, which is approximately 62% off of the current msrp, and nearly 40% off the current best selling price we could find on a new unit. For us it was too good of a deal to pass up, especially considering we needed a larger trailer for our 3 growing kids and refuse to miss any of the limited time we have making memories. Interest rates suck, they will probably suck for at least a few more years. We just were not willing to wait and sacrifice valuable time with our family.

@@JoshtheRVNerd For sure still need to remain financially sound- definitely not advocating for anyone to jump into something they cannot afford. Also not an advocate for the crazy 15 year plus terms many choose (in my opinion that means you can’t actually afford it). I think I saw cougar putting them on a unit that was simuler to the 2516s. even if its an option, I do think it would be worthy, I believe the signature line has them but I can't find a decent floor plan in that line.....the 2608 would be perfect with auto leveling

Gas is something to always be considered and we try and factor it in when we plan trips
