I think the bigger issue is with new car dealers leaving the sticker in the window at MSRP, along with any additional mark-up stickers. When a truck that cost 35k 10 years ago has a sticker of $80k a discount of or incentive of less than 10% isn't moving the needle. The dealers and manufacturers need serious price reductions. 10 or 15 k has not been moving the needle much for the Gladiator.

There has been at least a 10X reduction in the value of the dollar since then. So now your bottom line work truck is 40-50k and the luxury ones are 100k, gas is about $4-5/gal- more in cali-fd-up. People's perception has just not stayed in pace with this reality since this happened in such a short time.

Without doubt there has been issues, and bad ones, with dealerships. But thats not all of them. Dealers in general have been forced to go along with pricing both at the manufacturers pricing and the auctions. The amount of leveraging in this industry is insane. You can buy fixed price cars. Its called Carvana and the other one. But there are issues there too. If you want to see what a fixed price auto platform has to offer research the trabant.
@Dennis08248 ай бұрын
I have always haggled for price on cars. Let's face it; cars are the second most expensive asset that most people buy. A home is the most expensive. Don't you haggle for the price of a home? You may not do it yourself; you get your agent to do it. So why not for a car? If you can't do it yourself, hire someone to haggle for you. Personally, what I have always done is submit an offer IN WRITING to the sales guy, and I signed it. All the dealer has to do is sign it to make it a binding contract. Usually, what happens is they outright refuse it, or the sales manager will counter the offer and initial the changes. Quite often the counter offer is close to my initial offer. If they refuse, I get up and leave. My name and phone number are included in the written offer. Usually, within a week, the dealer will call me and accept the offer. You just need to have the patience to wait them out.

Dealers want you to finance through them because they plan to recover their loss or discounts through their financing terms. Do not allow them to drag you in withthis tactic, go to another financial institution for outside financing. I recently negogiated $3,000 off a Tacoma and the dealer wanted me to finance through them. I declined and told them I was going to my own financial institution, they 'sold' the vehicle out from under my offer. If I get honest, good service, I understand they are in business to make profit and provide a service and that is fair. ANYTHING beyond that, I walk out. The depreciation in the new cars in the dealerships is going to put them over the top

Thanks, Brandon. So, when they finally want to liquidate, it's a panic and they want some money now (auction) instead of a bit more money sometime (retail). Seems legit, not a good situation for them, I guess I will be bold in asking for what I want at the price I want...

Tied purchases are illegal and if the diller isn't willing to remove them simply file a report with the FTC and cc the local car dealership on thisl. I guarantee they will be on the phone with you the next day if they are about to be fined. Worked for me anyway.

Dealers make all their dough in the service department. They will not lower prices because they are all rich from service money.

I absolutely believe that we the consumer have a lot of power. We just don't use it. With out us they are just Parking lot. If you price the consumer out of your lot pretty soon you'll be out of business. Shuffling cars from your lot to the auction lot is a circle that's going to put you out of business. Ultimately your into the business of selling cars to the consumer. No sales no business. Oh well!

Idk about you guys but you wanna stay the hell away from those Outlooks, traverse, equinox, and Arcadia. They are money pits especially the ones with the 3.6 plz I beg you as a tow truck driver and someone that sees these endlessly in shops stay far away from them

There’s a reason why they are one of the only decent sized SUVs you can get for basically dirt cheap when they were 40k plus brand new

I went car shopping with my Dad and the dealer low-balled his trade in. I got up to walk out and ended up getting 2500 dollars off. We bought the truck.

Peltier Ford has 10k off window stickers on over 30 trucks right now, for anyone that is interested. I'm in texas but thats all I'm giving info wise.

TrueCar price : 24k, “real” price: 29k. Walked away and put them in no answer list. We can talk when they are in trouble.

Hard to say these days with so many people ignorant to the fact they are being screwed....I won't even bother going to a dealer until they reduce prices by at least 25%. I normally trade in every 5 or 6 years. I'm driving my 10 year old RAM that would cost me $65,000 to replace....No way I'm paying even close to that. Absurd.

I'm in the same boat. 09 f150 here that would cost me 50k+ to replace today

We just bought a vehicle and the dealership we approached first wouldn't work with us we spoke with our feet. Even when I showed the sales person a car across town for thousands less (same model, but a few thousand more miles though still less than 50K miles) they wouldn't budge. They ended up selling it to another sucker. We were buying used and they only had two cars we were interested in, so we took our business elsewhere.

Doesn't matter. Someone else will always come along and buy it.

@@dhtango I have a local used car dealer that is asking $26,200 for a used 2020 Toyota Corolla LE (lowest trim level) that has been sitting on their lot for 2 years. Sent them an email wishing them luck on that sale and they still haven't budged on lowering that price as of today. They're going to have to drop that price 50% or more if they want to move it.

Brandon Brandon Brandon...thats part of the problem nobody wants to go to a new car dealership and talk to a salesman New car salesman are in the same category as pedophiles it gives everyone the creeps to go near those places...

I went to a Toyota dealer in Charlotte and they took $5000 off the sticker of my new Toyota Corolla so some are lowering prices
@jerryt878 ай бұрын
They won't lower the prices until the doors are ready to close, and maybe not then. They're going to have to drop 20 to 25k before they can move these overpriced land yachts.

They think they can out wait us, the don't realize we cannot afford them as a whole, so there going to be waiting a long time

Time is on our side, not theirs... Even if they find some dumping spot for the cars, they are still in deep crap with the 2025's and soon to be 2026 models. They must feel like they're drinking from a fire hose! I'm not sure there are enough stupid, richy-riches to get them through at their ridiculous price points.

Skip the dealerships for used cars. Check every place you can think of to find a private sale. Let all your friends, neighbors, co-workers, everyone you can think of that you are seriously in the market for a used car. Get pre-approval from a credit union for a loan if you need to so that funds are available if you hear about a deal. After looking for a car for several months, we blew off the dealerships and got an excellent deal through a private seller because we had put the word out to everyone. A relative's neighbor had a sister who decided to move without any baggage, so to speak. So we came in and offered to take it off her hands - quickly. Low miles, perfect Carfax, thumbs up by mechanic, etc. and we took ownership last weekend. Easiest process I've ever been through and I'd recommend private sale to anyone.

Imagine being at the Drive Thru window at your favorite Burger Barn. Place your order for a Meal Deal and substitute the onion rings for fries. You're asked to pull into the parking lot and wait for the manager to tell you the new price of the meal. You spend a half hour waiting and haggling over the new total. Burger Barn wouldnt be able to sell food - PERIOD. But at every New Car Dealership, we put up with this "dance of the dollars" charade. WHY ? Don't give me a long answer, because the bottom line is GREED.

Nope, it's government corruption. Only government intervention can keep such horrible businesses afloat.
