I still wouldn't cut wood with it. I'd rather use one-handed rotary saws (that look like a beefed up version of this one but with lower rpm), or plunge saws, or skill saws, or table saws, or jigsaws for that. This is more suitable for thin stuff.

If they would just make warranties like Milwaukee and make their batteries better I’d still be a ryobi guy. Ryobi were the tools that built my business to what it is today. But got tired them burning up and the 100’s of pounds of bad batteries I have at this point are astounding... and their warranty is super hard to get validated. You have to have the battery the tool came with, when you have a business and have so many tools and batteries to keep multiple crews going each day it’s hard to know what battery went with what tool, if that battery died and you recycled it then you’re screwed

@mike h then explain to me why I have a literal pile worth hundreds and hundreds of dollars of ryobi li-on batteries that all quit taking a charge. Some weren’t even a year old when they quit taking a charge? Sometimes you can get lucky and put them in an old ryobi flashlight and turn it on a second and then get the battery to charge, but if it would charge again after that is kinda up in the air. While I have 15 Milwaukee li-on batteries ranging from 3-1 years old and not a single one has gone bad yet. I think they’re worse because I’ve been doing commercial and residential construction for over 20 years and i own 10’s of thousands of dollars worth of power tools. Along with those bad ryobi batteries I’ve also had hit and Miss luck with their cordless tools themselves. Numerous circular saws having bearings go out within 2 years of regular use, brushless sawzalls going out that were less than 90 days old, many drills smoking the ghost... I’ve yet to have a Milwaukee tool actually burn up or go out yet. Honestly their old blue tools held up better in some regards in my experience.

Got their lawnmower, battery that was included (5ah 36v) was doa. I could ship it back, but only as a set, and I needed the lawnmower then and there, and had an extra battery for it, so my loss. Probably a faulty cell and I could identify it and rebuild it once I have the time, or find a place which would do that for me. Pretty stupid though that I'd have to return all the purchase just to fix the battery issue.

There are two types of HP batteries. The regular HP and the HP+. HP+ have the added connections. If you look at a 1.5 ah HP battery you'll see they do not have the extra connections. Ryobi makes it a bit confusing with not only having these two types of batteries, but also then adding the ONE + label... I work in HVAC, but am also a nomad. I use Ryobi as it does what I need at work and on the road, also camping. Is it perfect? No. It works for me though. (I get some criticisms for using Ryobi for reasons...)

I think the issue with calling ryobi worksite ready or whatnot is that they do sell both low end diy oriented tools and prosumer tools. Milwaukee or makita's business model is selling professional tools to professionals, ryobi's business model is being on both ends of the adage "if you arent sure how much you'll use something get the cheap one, if you use it enough to break it then get the good one"

The Milwaukee is very compact with the original battery it has and can fit into incredibly small spaces. The only shortcoming of the Milwaukee tool is that it does not have a tool holder. The Allen wrench for it is a odd size it is not metric Nor standard it is just Milwaukee size. I found that once I misplaced it particular allen wrench that came with it I couldn't get the blade off so I nylon tide the Allen ranch to the handle 😵 . I really like all of my M12 Milwaukee tools that I have bought but I have to say this is the most versatile one probably that least used one but when I need it nothing else will fit the bill. Always good to see your testing tools Vinny 👍

I think the Milwaukee one is more compact and more versatile with the circular saw like shoe it has with dust collection. I've used my Milwaukee cut off tool on the job for cutting everything from a 6 inch cast iron waste pipe that I couldn't shake with a sawzall, too nails poking through siding that I could nip off but couldn't cut flush. I used it the other day to cut back a metal shield for a baseboard . it's also very useful to keep around for when your neighbor or your son locks his bike up and can't find the key 😂.

Ryobi's got another multi-material saw at the Depot. Seems like almost no one knows about it, it's brushed so it's older, but it goes up to an inch in depth. I'd like to see how that one compares to this new model. I'm sure it's not as powerful, but I wonder if the extra features can make up for that.

Most of the other big names (Milwaukee, Ridgid, Makita, DeWalt, Bosch, etc..) have been putting battery control in the tools for years. Ryobi has kept this tech in their in the packs and left the tools "dumb" (and cheaper), which led to the weird need to add two terminals on their brushless tools and create new batteries with updated battery management and the corresponding tabs (HP!) to hit their maximum performance ratings advertised on the spec sheets. They really should have just made the change they are introducing now with their compact HP tools when they first launched their brushless lineup when the HP battery packs became a temporary kluge.. but here we are. The move to putting 'HP' (battery management) in the tool is good for Ryobi, if about half a decade late. Their marketing team needs to pull their pants off of their heads and make the purpose and function of the changes clearer though. Having three different grades of battery packs (Lithium, Lithium+, and HP currently) has always been confusing coming from other tools brands where batteries are simply rated in amp-hours and size class. Now Ryobi is using the HP designation in a new place where it has different significance (on battery and in tools). If you have to call Ryobi to find an answer to something simple like this, their marketing team has clearly failed.

Just got the same tool as a package deal with three batteries. 6,4,3A and charger for $199. I have some new videos of the work the tool did on my You Tube channel. What a great addition to my line of Ryobi tools. You said it like I have been saying, "professional tools for homeowners". 👍 I love the versatility, flexibility, and cost of Ryobi tools. And they apparently got more in the works. I also think this tool would be better with a vac port one could connect to a regular vac cleaner tube. One thing for sure Ryobi is looking at their competition and improving upon some of the other brand tools. For example, my Ryobi Grinder implements the tightening wrench tool inside the handle which is pretty clever, something my Makita, more expensive, AC powered grinder does not. I would love to see Ryobi make fun vehicles like a Ryobi Go Kart or scooter, vehicles I have been designing, hacking modifying using hoverboard motors and parts from Razor scooters to work with Ryobi batteries, check out also my Razor 300 scooter with 36V Ryobi battery hack, also on my channel.

I have the HP compact drill/driver kit and like them. They are down on power from the full-sized tools, but I guess that's to be expected. They are small and lightweight, and will handle anything but the really extreme stuff. They make a good "side arm" for carrying on your belt with you. As for the cut-off tool...I've had it in my hand twice but put it back down. Great idea, but I feel like they should have went with at least a 4" wheel to give it more usable cutting depth. The depth this model has is very limiting.

I think that Ryobi 18-volt battery looks cumbersomely big on that relatively smaller tool

Ryobi stepping it up!! Hoping for a compact circular saw like that of the cut off tool around 3 1/2" blade to easily cut small wood sheet goods

Fuel is the top of the line, but their “brushless line” between standard M18 and the fuel line is very good as well.

Their plain-jane "brushless" products are effectively performance rated to match their best brushes tools, but with the lighter weight and better battery life of brushless motors. The Fuel line is the next step up and adds performance plus some nice "mode" options to optimize tool performance. One-key is a step up from Fuel, adding some customization options to tune the tool to a specific function beyond the standard "mode" options, plus wireless tool tracking.

Just got this tool and it's great. Man, I wished I had had it last year when I sided my shed! Between a cutoff angle grinder and snips, this tool and the angle of the handle to blade would have been awesome for that!!

Gotta say, even without the dust shoe I find reverse useful if I need to do something like cut a toilet bolt and I want to blow the sparks away from me because I have to hold it at a weird angle because of space restraints.
