Were the carbide toothed blades not worth the extra cost?
@thomasboese37939 ай бұрын
Remember that tools that use "carbide" tips have blocks of carbide glued on the tool. Hitting something it shouldn't, like a nail or chunk of metal, can destroy the individual blocks of carbide. Sharping a carbide tool is one thing, replacing blocks of carbide is something not done in the field, if at all.
@peterm.eggers5209 ай бұрын
@thomasboese3793 Yes, a carbide tip that is knocked loose would be very difficult to replace. A few teeth randomly missing is not disabling. Also, carbide toothed blades are used for demolition work where nails and screws are common. In fact, carbide toothed blades are used to cut metal, including steel. The number of teeth per inch, edge angle, and tooth offsets are generally quite different between wood and metal blades, but there are good compromises to create wood cutting blades that also handle embedded nails or even screws.

The blades in terms of board feet seem to be lasting about the same it seems to me. They are however producing about double the board feet of lumber. so there are at least double the blades to sharpen.

I noticed on your new mill that you don’t have a debarker, this accessory might save some on your blades. But that is quite the machine. I could not justify having one, you have to be able to sell the lumber and we have too many people around trying to do that.
@scottsoper9 ай бұрын
The new LT-70 WIDE does have a debarker going in front of the blade. However you may be looking for it on the right from where the controls are, like on the LT-40: look for it on the left on the LT-70.
