Bro. I don’t know if this is a scam or what its purpose is but it happened to me at the beginning of the month and today. Someone opened an Amazon account under my name, my address, my debit card info and placed some orders. The only thing that was different from my account was the phone number. At least that’s what the girl I spoke with from Amazon told me. Now I guess I should have asked what the shipping address was to see if could figure out who was using my card to make purchases. In my head I thought the items were gonna be shipped to my address but that wouldn’t make sense unless the thieve lives near by and would know when the packages were arriving.

I made the decision to be single and celibate. Maybe for just a time, maybe for the rest of my life. I poured my time into productive projects. Thinking clearly, having peace & happiness in my life without the drama of dating felt really good! I love to help others, so I also did that. I did free childcare for a single mom with 3 children. Cleaned people's houses for free. When I was a part of the dating world, the guys would criticize me for doing these things. Life can be more about getting money for anything you do. One guy criticized me for it, said it was a waste of time. As I built my financial portfolio, scammers started contacting me, again. I think I was almost scammed when I called an "Amazon" about a missing package. I found "their" number online. The guy said to go to a site to let him look at my phone screen. (I knew this application worked on PCs, but I wasn't aware there was one for smartphones.) I started getting uncomfortable with why they needed all this work for a simple refund or replacement. I thought I called him, so this was Amazon, right? When he said he needed my bank info, I hung up. Now, I write letters to companies with issues. I hope scammers think snail Mail is too much trouble.

Moral of the story: never tell a verification code to anyone on the phone, only use it on the actual website where you know it's the real deal. That's why they say "don't share with anyone"! This means that even the real company would never ask you to tell them the code.

Hmm. If the Zelle transfer thing isn't covered by fraud protection, maybe banks shouldn't be automatically signing people up for Zelle.

Banks should be offering more protections like blocking suspicious activity regardless if it's authorized or not. All unusual activity should be blocked.
@808gamerhawaii2 жыл бұрын
@@WellnessGardenToolShed as someone that works at a bank it's not as easy as flipping a switch and taking it off like most people like yourself think. Banks are on the hook as soon as that Auth comes through and the merchant could turn around and come at the bank if they are legally entitled to the money (yes there's people who will report fraud on things they do to get their money back) it's annoying from an outside perspective but working at a bank made me realize that ultimately it doesn't matter in the end as long if you're being truthful. that's what disputes are for and gives the bank and yourself legal ground to stand on for the chargebacks. Also I would like to add in that there will never be a foolproof way of catching card fraud. You're thinking about it from your perspective which is one person but we have to think about literally millions of different transactions that are happening in just a single day, everyone does it differently but it will never be a perfect system. At this point it's just about raising awareness tbh, if you want the perfect fraud team you'll have to put in the effort there's no way around that. Most of those card scams are relying on people not paying attention which nowadays is very common, everyone has gotten lazy and can't be bothered to at least just take a quick glance at least once a week at their accounts.
@WellnessGardenToolShed2 жыл бұрын
@@808gamerhawaii one would think that the dispute process would work properly, but not all banks are actually ethical. You sound like one of the good ones. They, and I'm being specific with U.S. Bank, don't always do an actual review and broke the law by disregarding 93(A) during the dispute process to see that it was fraud, never looking at normal spending habits, nor catching a transaction that would've benfitted U.S. Bank when their alert systems didn't work. So yeah, I do see it from a different perspective. Not to mention, and I agree with you 💯 %, is that there should be awareness. One way would be to send emails or snail mail from all banks and place ads targeting younger people like they do with elderly. Because of streaming, the opportunity to be warned is more limited to algorithms. I realize their isn't a perfect system, but this issue has become worse. I've received 2 emails from U.S Bank regarding scams since this situation I'm referring to and many on the lastest offers for loans, credit cards, opening new accounts for children, etc. People aren't likely to talk about being frauded due to feeling ashamed and stupid, especially online with trolls. With the amount of money and assets a bank has compared to the amount usually, average is $2k according to the FTC's recent study, stolen from frauds/ scams will not break the bank, when it's one of the top 5 biggest banks. I must add that with the situation I'm referring to, all but the deciding person in the payment services department, agree that the the person had been a victim of a crime including US Bank's fraud department. They actually could see by all transactions saying it was classic fraud situation on this student account.

US Bank finally returned the money lost to a scam after 5 months and 3 days. They apologized for all their mistakes admitting to many. So when they say you can't get your money back, you can. Go to their press departments and send them a copy of the drafted article you're going to seething submit to every college and big name newspaper. And send them a demand letter for court, small claims, don't give up. Send complaints to the FTC, FBI, OCC, BBB, Consumer Affairs, and anywhere possible. Thanks, Thio Joe. Love your site. BTW -- you should also mention that one of the easiest ways to spot rip-off artists is by their random capitalization and poor spelling and punctuation in their emails and printed materials. I saw several instances in the different examples briefly displayed in your video. One scammer keeps trying to tell me that my email account is going to be deleted and they put *a copyright notice* at the bottom of the message! hahaha
@likebot.2 жыл бұрын
That random capitalization, poor spelling and punctuation, bad grammar or just plain wordsalad is not from an illiterate scammer but is by design to target poorly educated or very gullible people (who tend to be also poorer). A higher percentage of their callers will be more likely to fall for a scam than if it was correctly composed. So the short story is they're even more evil than we thought.

The spammer filters out the more educated and intelligent people with these spelling mistakes. They want to deal with less educated and gullible people.
@pretz89822 жыл бұрын
Falling victim to any scam does not mean one is uneducated or unintelligent. Labeling scam victims as such is the main reason that scams are so under reported. Scammers who never get reported will never come to justice. Perpetuating the view of scam victim = stupid, gullible, forgetful, uneducated, elderly and/or demented is victim shaming, which ultimately assists every con artist. From what I understand, a scammer who purposely sends a poorly written message is not necessarily doing so in an attempt to cull people who are educated or intelligent. A person who responds to a poorly written message indicates a person who is more likely give others the benefit of the doubt and thus be more easily manipulated. That isn't the same as a stupid or gullible person. If I were a scammer, I'd rather scam someone who is more educated. More educated = more likely have more $ € £ ¥ ₩ saved = higher possible score if my scam works. Teach the public the importance of reporting being scammed. If you were taken advantage of, don't be ashamed! Shame belongs on the bad actor, not on you. Keeping quiet and not reporting the crime because you feel embarrassed allows the perpetrator to just keep scamming without consequences. Keeping it real: I am quite well educated, not especially gullible. Somewhere out there, a Craigslist scammer has $150.00 that he stole from me. His accent sounded like a very Midwestern white guy to me. I'm not ashamed of trusting him; I'm angry and hurt that he virtually mugged me. Since then I have tried to educate myself about scammers and scams that are happening. @Thiojoe - 🙏 Thanks for the information. Nicely done! Live and learn and share your knowledge & experience.
