My husband & I told our sons when they were growing up, if they get arrested, don’t call us to bail you out. If they were doing something illegal & were arrested for it, then they will do the time. We also told them not to contact their grandparents, because we were raised with the same rule. They are both Eagle Scouts & our oldest is a Marine.
