Sergeant Major Kent was our platoon Sgt. 3rd LSB Air delivery platoon Okinawa, Japan 84-85, he was a gunny at the time. He earned his gold wings with our unit. This Marine can run, our PT was intense with him leading the way. Every marine in our unit scored a perfect PT score because of him. What an awesome Marine.
@twright38024 жыл бұрын
I served in 3/12 with SgMaj Kent back in 1993, I believe. He was the battalions SgtMaj back then. He would get up hours before the rest of us and run PT and then find a platoon or battery ( artillery unit) that was getting ready to start PT and fall in with them. The man was truly a motivator.

Sergeant Major Kent was my Regimental Sergeant Major when I was a SSgt at MCRD San Diego in 1999-2000 timeframe. I can tell you for sure, that he is a great man. You better be on your game when he was around, he had no problem whatsoever squaring a Staff NCO away. I talked to him daily because we worked in the same building and my Responsibilities in my MOS was of interest to him. I don’t think the man saw color. Marines were just the color green to him. We all looked up to him and wanted to impress him. Not a terribly large man in stature, but had a large personality. His presence would usually strike fear in us younger Marines, but he was an extraordinary leader.
@JimmyDickens13 жыл бұрын
I knew him at AOCS NAS Pensacola, FL, 1989. I agree with your comment 100%. There are dark green Marines and light green Marines. But ALL of them are Marines. Sgt Maj Kent is an OUTSTANDING Marine! And he treated all of us candidates as his own.

No. When going from E-7 to E-8, a gunnery sergeant has to choose to become either a first sergeant or a master sergeant. If they choose to become a first sergeant, they can become a sergeant major and then eventually the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps. If they choose to become a master sergeant, they can only become a master gunnery sergeant. You are locked into the path once you choose.

The medals worn on the left breast of the dress blue coat are those that rate both a medal and ribbon. The ribbons on the right breast do not rate a medal. Since medals are worn with dress blue alphas (the uniform the SgtMaj. is wearing) non-medal ribbons are worn on the right breast while medal ribbons are worn on the left breast.

@mfm63764 жыл бұрын
The awards on the right are not medals. The medals on the left have ribbons when not in full dress uniform. Example... sea service ribbon, earned after 90 days of at-sea service. It is not a medal. Dress uniform, working uniform, sea service is worn on left. Full dress uniform with medals... sea service, combat action ribbon, etc... worn on right

This is gonna sound terrible but the black community needs to look up to him instead of people like meek mill. Black people are caught in a prisoners dilemma and the way out for them is to blame others for their lack of making it in the world. Call me racist idc they need to look at this man and realize dedicating your life to a craft is how you escape the hood. This man is worthy of respect and black people need to learn from him. I’m from India but moved here with my mother when I was 3. Lived in West Baltimore all my life and managed to get out cause of school. So I witnessed first hand and came to these conclusions

A lot graduate college and or go to the service. Then you have the ones that’s a product of their environment, that later become rappers or join gangs an sell drugs an kill. You say you from west baltimore but you should know that most black men don’t want to stay in the hood
