I am not a Marine myself, but I know who general Eric Smith is. I have been following up on his leadership since general Berger retired. He is a great Marine, and human being. I will pray for a speedy recovery for him and his loved ones. Not many people understand the huge responsibilities he has taken on since he was appointed commandant of the United States Marine Corps. It is more than anyone could understand.

Thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery for The Commandant. And oh, how well I remember MCRD San Diego, although I went through it just a tad few years before you did, 1975 to be exact. I may be old now, but as the saying goes, "Once a Marine, always a Marine". Semper Fi!!

This guy was our chief drill instructor in 2006... Then I ran into him at camp Pendleton in 2009 when we got back from iraq in the chapo area... We where demobing and I think he was going over seas at the time company gunny for them... Just said hi and said it was good to see him again...I had no idea who this was until I saw this post thanks

@@cunningpatriot4117 I went through MCRD in 1988 and only remember having senior and junior DI's. I don't remember having a chief DI. I wonder if Chief DI's are a new thing or maybe they went by a different name. Did every platoon have their own chief DI?
