Appreciate this video is effectively an advert for Flixbus, but the other two operators are: Megabus - lots of advance fares also for £8.99 and National Express, advance fares for £10 (sign up to avoid their £1 booking fees). Transpennine Express (direct train as others have said) can be purchased for £14.80 and is approximately 2 hours quicker. Also, did the WIFI work? What was the seat like? Charging points? Was there an onboard toilet? Did the coach arrive on time? What was the driver like? Was the coach busy?

As has been noted, Transpennine Express operate a direct rail service between Glasgow and Manchester Airport which stops at Manchester Piccadilly. It can be hard to get a cheapish ticket on it though. Getting the Avanti West Coast service to Preston and changing onto a Northern service to Manchester takes a similar time and there seems to be more cheap tickets available. With due respect to Flixbus, I’d much rather take the train.

Three is correct. But three is more than none. TPE are very unreliable even with that, to be fair, as they haven’t kept up driver route training north of Carlisle at all well. The Mova 2 / class 397 trains, however, are an excellent product, if you get aboard one. Although there is a large variance in price, there are some good advance fares with real cards to be had, which I think can be fairly competitive with the bus prices.

@matthewsmatters2 жыл бұрын
I'm sure there are more good than bad McGill's drivers. Sadly there are some bad ones. Look up Glasgow Times piece from a few years back capturing multiple instances of jumping red lights and dangerous driving - one of few good bits of journalism out of them recently. In one instance when I was nearly run over, driver's own dashcam proved my story. Police charged and went to the PF. It's utterly unacceptable with public service vehicles for drivers to behave like this, or be put under such time and monetary pressure by the compnay that they are encouraged to. Risk to their own passengers and the wider public. Speaking as a visually impaired pedestrian who has the right to cross the road on a green pedestrian signal without being run over by a bus. McGill's have some work to do. But I'm glad to hear there is positive experience out there.

Hi, nice review & video, I was on the same service! Flix wasn't that much longer than the train given the faffing of changing at Carlisle, Lancaster, Preston or Wigan, connecting Northern services can be short formed & standing room only, TransPennine trains arent reliable, the early morning service north is invariably cancelled & they have no Sunday services due to strike action until June. Flix is so much easier when the West Coast Main Line is shut for engineering works, as it was for the last 2 Bank Holiday weekends. Let the train take the strain, no thanks!
