quick question Brian. I am looking for an ultimate solution for noise reduction. Presuming that I am willing to buy a dust extractor, which is a different animal (I recognize that the extractors have a speed control), how does it compare to this dewalt vac? thanks, keep up the great work.

I just bought this Vaccuum and wow is it amazingly quiet and more powerful than the 5.0 HP craftman it replaced. Our craftsman is still awesome, but the noise level sounds like a jet engine and we had gotten noise complaints from other tenants while working. It rolls around amazing and the bag to hold your tools actually holds them in place. This is hands down the best vacuum I have ever used. Great Job engineers you really nailed this one #Dewalt!!!!!

Great review. Just picked one up on sale at Costco for 65 bucks. The one I got has a stainless steel bucket and crush resistant hose. I bought it to live at the cottage but I think I’ll be going back and getting one for the shop at home too to replace an old Rigid vac Can’t believe how quiet it is and the suction, I told my wife at Costco it’ll either be kinda quiet and still a good vac, or quiet and suck at sucking. It’s truly a great vac. We’ll see what its lifespan is, but for $65 and casual usage I should get a long time out of it

@@MarkK01 mine uses the DXVC4001. And I made a mistake about the foam filter fitting over the white filter. You are supposed to remove the white filter and slide the foam one over the filter cage in place of the white one. It says a clean cartridge filter may be used for vacuuming small amounts of liquid. For best results when vacuuming large amounts of liquid, remove the cartridge filter and any disposable or reusable dist filters. Install the foam filter. Installing the foam filter will help to protect the motor and minimize the potential for misting that may appear in the exhaust air or dripping of liquid around the lid. For about $15 I got a 2-1/2” muffler-diffuser accessory for my regular shop vac that plugs into exhaust port, and it works great - very quiet now. This looks like a really nice vac, but I wouldn’t go out and buy one just to reduce noise when inexpensive mufflers are available. Also, if I want max performance temporarily, all I have to do is unplug the muffler. With this new Dewalt vac it seems you’re always compromising performance for quiet, even when max performance (albeit with earplugs) is preferred.
@bread-gz3rl2 жыл бұрын
1. You're not sacrificing any usable amount of preformance, same with using bags. 2. Those shitty muffler knock like 8db off, which on normal shop vacs makes 90 go to 82, which is still loud as shit, not to mention any bearing noises.
@chuckb43752 жыл бұрын
@@bread-gz3rl The released product being reviewed here is a DXV12P-QT. It's in a lower performance category (8A/5.5 PHP) as compared with my current "normal" 11A/6PHP vac (similar to the other Dewalt 11A/6.5PHP vac showed in this video for comparison). If I ran out and got one of these right now just to have something quieter, yes I *WOULD* be be sacrificing performance. The WorkshopAddict reviewer made a similar remark in the conclusion/summary of his video. Where did you get your data from? Dewalt states that this vacuum is "50% quieter", and they also state that "every 7dB(A) is a doubling in loudness". dB is logarithmic -- an 8dB reduction of a "shitty muffler" as you called it would be fantastic (less than half the perceived noise level). It's probably more like 4-5dB reduction, but still it makes such a difference on my particular vac that I don't bother with earplugs most of the time. The vac performance seems to decrease when I plug in the muffler however, but I do have the option to unplug the muffler (and use earplugs) for big jobs. Your 90dB(A) number for a "normal shop vac" also seems high. According to Dewalt's own presentation, a "standard wet/dry vac" is about 80dB(A), and I've seen other reviews of vacs in the 11A category that seem to agree with that number. For this < 65dB(A) vac, Dewalt claims that it is "50% quieter". They show a little footnote that this is an internal comparison with their normal ~8A DXV12P (NOT QT version), which seems to be somewhere in the 70-75dB(A) range. I don't like the way Dewalt shows a graph with DXV12P-QT being only ~65dB(A) compared with a "standard wet/dry vacuum" shown to be at 80dB(A) -- those are 11A vacuums that are in a higher performance category! Since Dewalt has announced a higher power/capacity (6.0 PHP) QT version for late this year, it will be interesting to see if that one is similarly ~7dB quieter (i.e., 80 - 7 ~= 73dB(A) ) as compared with its non-QT counterpart.

@@bread-gz3rl you are wrong 100percent! I done hours of research and noticed the new 16gallon shop instead of having 6.5hp it only has 6hp yes I know hp means nothing in a shop vac but the lower number means less power usually.

I used a muffler diffuser for years. Was always pretty happy with how much quieter it was using the diffuser. Not anymore, picked up the DeWalt this morning and took it to the jobsite. Was blown away with how quiet it was. No comparison! As far as power goes, it had plenty. I plan on get one or two more. Some will be hooked up to tools and another will be for around the site. No more big bulky 16 gallon shop vacs for me, that I switch from tool to tool to around the site. 2 or 3 of these is the way to go.

I really appreciate this demonstration. I’m definitely looking at it because noise is an issue. That said, I don’t know what sort of marketing math vacuum brands use but one horsepower is 746 watts. That vacuum rates at 1.2 horsepower at best. Even if you count the spinup that’s 1.8hp. Realistically probably 1hp at the motor output during vaccuming. At any rate, 5.5 horsepower just isn’t happening on a 120V 20 amp circuit.

The manual on my model says for minor liquid pick up you can leave the white filter on. For larger amounts then it needs to be used with a foam filter that slides over the the filter cage in place of the white filter to prevent misting water from then exhaust and leaks around the lid and to protect the motor. Also I don't think it's a good idea to suck up so much liquid to the max like that. Wet/dry vacs should put a window on there or something so you can guage how much liquid you sucked up.

Always use a cyclone centrifugal filter with a bucket before the shop vac, so that you don't clog your shop vac's paper filter with dust. Then the suction will remain high, and the filter will stay clean, as almost no dust ever reaches the shop vac, and the tiny bit that does, most of it falls down, and almost nothing hits the filter. A cyclone filter with a bucket is life changing. It makes no sense at all not to have one. In some countries, they have to be 3D printed to be affordable.

Have you compared this StealthSonic vs using a similar powerful vacuum with a Muffler? P.S., Yes, I have read the thread of @chuckb4375 below where @alrightythen1533 claims it is way better than with a muffler. I am curious of multiple experience there as yes, noise is an important factor for me. FYI -- I am looking to use it to clean house vent, maybe a bit in the house (but being quiet might help that), and to clean car. I was finding interesting that Shop Vac could be used as a blower (not yet sure how good they are versus a leaf blower), but these StealthSonic one have no blower port for some reason compared to non-StealthSonic ones. I wonder how much of a minus it is (but that is far from being my primary need, but deceived to lose a feature since I know other might have it, but if way quieter, in my case, that is a big selling point).
