New Silk Road - From Yiwu to the World

In light of the Belt and Road Forum (BRF), Crossover produced a special episode covering how the Belt and Road Initiative has influenced the economic and cultural life of the people in the city of Yiwu in Zhejiang Province. Xiaojun and Louisa begin their journey at the world-renowned small commodities market, then visit a Senegalese merchant who trades in Yiwu. Next, the hosts make a trip to the legendary straw manufacturer of China who made a global business out of plastic tubes. Finally, Xiaojun and Louisa sit down at the imported commodities mall to discuss the benefits brought and the opportunities opened up by the China Railway Express.

The straw businessman and story applies for the whole chinas economy history, they first focused on having the biggest market share with low cost products (which they did being the “factory of the world”), and now they’re doing high end products to enhance profits, good for China and for that man, that was a great lesson!

The old Silk Road was a great success in trades and cultural and religious exchanges. Merchants on camel caravans risking their lives to travers the vast desert to and from China. How is a 21st century modernization of the expended “Silk Road” be a bad idea? The detractors claim it is a insidious way for China to extend its tentacles to the outside world but all roads are two ways . So it can be inroads of western countries into China too.
