Just had 10 days with this jacket in Colorado and absolutely loved it. Had some mornings in mid 30s and this jacket was warm without weight and bulk.

as far as warmth would this be comparable to the kelvin down WS hoody? or which Kelvin down hoody would this replace? there are so many i have a hard time keeping them strait. id like this to be my early season Elk insulation layer for Colorado.

How it fare for semi active usage? I saw the interior side panels are different they would allow more air/heat to move to the insulation. Or is this a static piece only? Thanks.

I just picked up an aerolite. Crazy specs 30% warmer dry and 90% wet and 1oz lighter than the old kelvin??? 😮

I'm looking for something to keep warm while still hunting. The stone glacier grumman goose down jacket or similar is what I've been looking at. Does sitka make a synthetic with similar warmth and compress down for stashing in my pack?

I wonder how well this compresses as compared to say 800fp down? In my experience with polar guard, primaloft, etc., down compresses far smaller, and also doesn’t lose its insulation properties after repeated compression cycles( think stuff sack or even worse, compression sack use) as fast as most “traditional” synthetics? I’m very curious to see how this insulation performs after a few years? Sure sounds promising!

Can’t help but notice that there’s a lot of stitching on this jacket and on the Kelvin Active compared to the Kelvin Lite; was that a conscious decision in order to hold the insulation in place, similar to baffling on down garments? Is there not a concern because of the amount of stitch holes to loose more heat compared to a garment with a continuous fibre insulation? Would removing the baffling and using more strategic stitching not reduce weight even more, increase warmth, and reduce production costs?

@@sheerwillsurvival2064 yes and no. I have the Atom as well but the side stretch panels are not always a good thing on a puffy jacket when you really want heat retention. That’s one reason I did get the Kelvin Lite Hoody was because it didn’t have those.

@@GOHUNT I am 6’ 9” and 260. I realize that companies don’t usually cater to a bona fide Yeti… but I have always wanted to try their products. Just a bit leery about spending that much on something that doesn’t fit perfectly.

I couldn’t agree with this more. I’m 6’7” and 215lbs. I have almost all of their big game line in XLT and it is hardly long enough in torso. I can’t run puffy because it’s not offered in tall sizes. I wear 36in inseam and the pants are barely long enough. It’s tough living in a short persons world
